Nice relaxing puzzle game! I loved the art and the music. Definitely created a really nice tropical atmosphere with this one. The little idle animations on all the animals were amazing.

Hello gamers! We just released our entry to the 2023 Gamedev.js Jam: Cowboy Conundrum.
A pair of friends traveling to the past to get rich during the gold rush. But a confrontation with the local cowboys makes the situation complicated.
The game is an action story game and takes around 10 minutes to complete.

This is my favorite game so far. The art style is clean and simple yet effective. Loved the simple movements with the windows and the tree growing small branches. The lighting effects were really nice. SFX were great (especially the tree growing). All around really good polish.
Then there's the game design. I've never really loved puzzle games, but this one really made me want to play more. All the different ways you could manipulate the light to your advantage and how the game guides you towards those solutions... chefs kiss.
What is the word supposed to be after the last level? I assume it says fin but I swear the last letter is an 'm'.

I had to stop at the cave entrance after I came back from the dead end because I couldn't figure out how to get up that ledge. I feel like if I had played Getting Over It, I'd be amazing at this game.
Sad I don't get to see the rest of the story or any more of grandma. Any spoilers for me?

I was sweating bullets whenever I had 1 life left.
I nearly cried when I saw that I needed to die in the jump pad level. Hitting those large jumps feels frame perfect.
This is amazing for a first game jam especially with 5 people. I have trouble coordinating even in a group of 3.
Great game! I saw this in Jonas's video and thought the concept was really cool. I'm surprised how well I was able to control the AI. I like that you could see the enemies' thoughts which allowed me to plan ahead. I wish there was music to groove along to, but I understand how these things pan out. SFX worked well. Loved the dialog.

There is a beautiful star that nobody knows about. If only they would turn around, their entire lives would change. But nobody turns around, nobody cares, I am the only one that can see the beautiful star. My surroundings slowly fade away as I am consumed by the star. All hail the beautiful star. Very small detail/bug: in the bottles screen, if you move a mayfly around, he is displayed BEHIND the jar’s tag, as if he were inside the bottle.
This is on purpose. Given more time, we'd have put a jar open/close animation so that this made more sense

Yep, but hiring and firing the same detective on the same turn always nets in a 0 reputation loss/gain
The fact that you do not know the tasks before hiring makes it partly like gambling! Quite hard to figure out how the whole system works at the beginning! :o
This is a weird one, because if you were able to see the tasks from the start, then the game would be too easy since you'd be able to always win (or at least reduce losses significantly). This system forces you to think ahead and account for all possibilities. Very rng, but it's possible to take a lot of rng out with planning.
In the task-selection phase, the mayflies are sometimes a bit too close, and will always come back in such a formation! X) I think allowing them to spread a bit would help, especially to distinguish them.
Definitely need to fix this one.

I just think some of the management should be introduced more progressively, as it can get overwhelming at the beginning.
Agreed. The complexity was one of the main things we were worried about. However, it would have taken a significant amount of time for mechanics introductions though. We tried to make it so that even if you picked randomly for everything, you wouldn't lose too much (unless you're really unlucky).

This could be a cool multiplayer party game. The sound and art design are already there for that type of game. Nice touch at the start with the intro music!
The only issue I had was when I entered full screen, the mouse was always offset based on the distance from the center (Chrome). Otherwise, great game!
Fun little short puzzle game! I especially love the sound design. It made for a very relaxing experience which stops me from getting frustrated on harder puzzles.

The only small piece of advice I have is to add input queuing so that while you're moving and you press another movement button, it'll automatically move when possible. Other than that, great game!
Really cool idea! I liked the fact that creating a larger machines weren't always better because you have to deal with the pieces that fall off. This meant there were a lot more interesting ways you could play the game.
I wish there was a way to keep previous build though because then I'd be able to try out the best option for each playstyle much more quickly though I do understand why you'd want to prioritize other things. This feature would have kept me in my flow state for a lot longer.
Awesome ui, definitely noticed the polish. Really cool intro/splash screen and the sfx with the Godot eyes blinking were surprisingly nice. Unique restart button that tied into the world nicely.

The penguin just shoots at you for a while, then leaves. With a little more time, I would have liked to add some bar at the top indicating this. Also, you're not actually supposed to be able to hit the penguin, it just inherits from the enemy class that can be hit. I thought I put the penguin far enough to not be hit. Oops.
Wow the art is gorgeous! The animations for the player were really fluid and those environmental pieces just hit the spot.
This game is definitely very challenging, so I really appreciate that you gave the player a quick restart.
The platform controls are all very well done, but the juggling is difficult.
I saw that you increased the hitbox of the light sticks quite a bit and I think maybe the player could get some of the same treatment. There were a couple times when I thought I touched the fire, only to have it shatter right next to me.
The trajectory of the fire is sometimes hard to imagine so I recommend adding a trajectory line.
This game was clearly well polished, and I think if you playtested a bit more and gotten feedback on the difficulty you would have made a perfect game
Hello everyone, quick note from the developer.
Here are some known bugs that unfortunately we can't fix during the jam:
- The menu button on the options menu softlocks you.
- If you rebind your pause key to Left Mouse Click and exit the menu without resetting it the game softlocks.
Let me know if you find anything else, and I can add it to the list.
If you do run into these issues, reloading the page should fix it.
No there is no building table. Once you gather enough materials for an item, you see it appear in the crafting menu at the top left. The inventory is only the nine slots.
Glad you liked the options menu! I made it in a previous jam and have been using it as a template for all my games.
