Something that I wish I could have done better, is to balance the battling system, especially at the beginning.  Also to fix the many spelling and grammar errors found in the game. Lastly, I wish I thought of putting in a hint system in each town before submitting, so players have some help with direction.

Of course, noticing and fixing the 2 big progression block bugs so everyone and the judges can experience more than just one dungeon and 2 towns of the game XD

I think I was so focused on making a full game that, everything else became so minimal of a problem to me.

Definitely gonna work on fixing all these problems plus any more after judging is complete.

Hey Cash! Thanks so much for the review! This was actually the first game I have ever made, (I made it a full game too although there are plenty of spelling errors and bugs here and there. ) I know for a fact I need to balance the battling system better and I honestly didn't realize how much meta-humor I ended up putting in the game. XD But yes, this game is VERY self-aware.

Regarding the repetitive joke for the closets being scandalous, in the long run after the game jam was done, I knew I wanted to post this on Steam and have the scandalous closets turn into an achievement like "You inspected every closet in the game! How Scandalous!"

I saw the video of you playing through my game and regards to knowing about those goblins and what the whole deal with that was you ended up skipping the cutscene that would explain more about that. When Cadence asks "Do you want me to explain what happened?" There was a yes or no option and you selected "No" so that ultimately skipped the cutscene. I think in the future for story direction, I should make that cutscene unskippable.

For the game show, technically you can quit to the title screen and reload your last save. Since the game saves right before entering the game show area. I already have a way to make that more obvious by changing where the game will save and have the host mention it at the beginning the first time a player enters the area.

Funny you mention buddy cops because there was an optional battle in the first town after getting Cadence and Beatrice in your party where you're pretty much-playing cops and robbers with one of the kids.

For what to do in the second town, it was mentioned the moment you enter the town to gather intel. I'm already trying to find a way to add a hint system option for the player if they need direction on what to do to progress the story.

Too bad you couldn't make it to the fox village, but you wouldn't have been able to make it there anyway since there is a progression block in the second town that I didn't realize when playtesting.

All in all, Thank you for playing! I am looking into all these bugs and going through all the dialogue for the game and fixing the many, MANY errors.  This has been a great learning experience for me, and hopefully, I can have a fully polished game updated after the game jam.

The big house is such an interesting concept. I loved the idea of playing a character as part of a reality game show, and being able to influence others into voting out people. My only grief with this is I was hoping for more dialogue and interactions with the NPCs. And including more puzzle or strategy mini-games would be cool too! But overall I really do like the concept of it all.

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but for counting the animals on the farm game, the player can easily pause the game, which pauses the time and freezes the animals in place, giving them plenty of time to count. So I pretty much got that done in less than 30 seconds, was almost the star champion the whole time.

I really loved playing through this. At first I thought I'd play around 1 hour of the game only to find out it's now been 4 hours since I started! You did a great job, your game has really gotten me hooked! I did encounter an error that forced me to exit the game. I'm not sure what caused this, as I was really just grinding levels but something like "Type error "list" not found" and i'm not sure why it did that? it happened near one of the waterfall areas, if that helps anything. All in all, really polished game like everyone says. I love the battle animations too! well done!

I like the funky music, and the art style and animation is very unique. I know it was mentioned in the game that you got to the jam pretty late, I'm just wondering if it will reach at minimum 20 minutes of playtime. Hopefully, it does, that last puzzle to open the pump got confusing. I ended up stumbling my way through it on accident. Didn't realize the clue was referring to the number of points found on the image.

This game reminds me of Leisure Suit Larry. I think that's what the other game I'm thinking of is called? I like the clue about the color codes for the whale, that was very interesting to me.

I've got through the game properly this time! it was great, cute little squirrels, cute little bunny, AMAZING pixel landscape artwork, and a simple short puzzle-solving adventure. Other than the bug from before and maybe very few grammatical and text box errors (I think one time it said Quisk was speaking but it sounded more like Ronk was speaking) You and your team did a great job pushing the limits of the RPG Maker engine and put it into making a nice short game within the 1-month time limit. I really like that you added custom voice sfx for each character, very unique.

I'd love to see where their next adventure leads them.

Unfortunately I think I saved a while ago, but that’s ok with me, I can replay up to the part before the crash. Definitely gonna try and not crash the game this time. Lol

I'm getting a lot of sonic vibes from this and that's great! Cause it's super developed. But uh... I think I found a bug and got stuck when jumping in an area.  I stood on the small log platform and jumped straight up after collecting all the acorns, but the little squirrel went past the platform and I think is stuck in the ceiling? XD I'm playing this on the itch page btw, and I think the game froze but the music is playing. Just a bug I wanted to point out.

Hello! I played your game! Although I've only played for the first hour. I got up to the part after exploring the forest and you enter a town with a large library.  I can definitely see this game with replayability options since you can choose who you play as at the beginning.

One bug I might have encountered was that you can't really run from battles, since the roaming monsters will place you into battle right away after. If there was a way to make invincibility frames for your party or have the monster stay in place for a while as the players run away from it, I think that could fix it.

There's one more bug I encountered, which I think you just forgot to set a movement route for. When you pick the third character, the cat girl, and say "no" she ends up staying in that spot instead of getting back in line. This might make the game freeze if a player were to reselect her and say "no" multiple times.

With what I've played so far, I do like what you've done. The narrative is natural enough that I can get an understanding of who each character is.

I do like what you have going so far and I'd like to see where you'll be going with it! I think the last suggestion I can make is to balance the gear/spells/battles a little better to make things more even for the players. (also do the monsters respawn? It felt like they did but I couldn't tell, they just seemed to keep appearing out of nowhere!)

I loved this, Hungry Blob goes eating EVERYTHING! And the pixel art style is super cute! I got a lot of Minish Cap vibes from it. And that's good cause I love Zelda games. I can't really find much fault here, It's short, cute, and glutinous and even if pressing or holding the "Space Bar" might become repetitive for some, I like how it stays simple. Sometimes minimal is best.

Ate and consumed EVERYTHING. Nice Katamari addition.

I do love the character art and the idea of having 2 super powerful characters right from the beginning. The crafting mechanic in battle is super cool too! Although I do wonder where Nol gets her materials from.

I've played your game for only 1 hour, but I did get very confused about what to do and where to go exactly. I get that the caves are where we had to go, but it was dark, and I'm not sure what item I would need to light the caves. I definitely missed something, so I'm gonna have to replay it to get a better understanding of the story. Gameplay-wise, everything played out super nice, and I noticed there are quite a lot of mechanics involved in the battle. It was kind of overwhelming.

If anything, I think if you have some kind of cutscene at the beginning to develop the background of who these characters are, and how they relate to each other, I feel like most people would be able to empathize with the characters a little bit more.

Plan on playing 4 games on my twitch stream today. At around 3 pm EST

I'll be playing: Buff Knight, Askaria The Decay, Time To Seek, and Uiara Legends.

I'm not feeling 100%, but I think I'm well enough to stream. So if my voice sounds raspy, that'd be why.

Thank you for the kind words Siryn! QvQ

I can't wait to hear your review once you get the chance to play the game. There is, unfortunately, a progression block in chapter 2, before the dungeon, so that might be as far as you could go, but it should still be around 2 hours of fun! .....hopefully ^.^;

Losing sleep in order to make a full game for the jam sure was fun lol

Hey Al!

Thanks again for playing through the game and searching for all those bugs! It helps me spot things that I normally wouldn't have. (I'm Still amazed you persevered through that boss knowing you'll be trapped in the room right after).

For autosaving in the question area is a good idea, it might just make more sense to the player and it'll play out smoother.

Balancing gear is gonna be a bit difficult in order to keep the battle fair but I also see what you mean, I'll do my best on that.

Speaking of that buff, I meant to have it in the MP section but just forgot to switch it, that's something I'm definitely going to fix so thanks for pointing that out.

Your right about the strawberries, I want the players to have a chance of getting the items and skills they want in that area, so adding another expansion that would give 3 strawberries instead of 1 is a good idea, and making the tiles underneath them passible would work, I might just have to remove the text that appears when there is an empty plot to make it easier for the player to collect the strawberries.

When I saw you pass through the people who have the "through" option on I admit it did look pretty strange, so I will work on that. Might have the player just jump out of the way for the kids. As for Travis, I might just take that option off entirely since there's no real way for the player to get stuck around him.

Other than the 2 progression blocks, I'll be working on that. As well as the many, MANY Spelling and grammar errors you loved to point out, that can be fixed and I might just add a few flavor text to some other objects for the fun of it.

Thank you for playing through the whole game! (7 hours is not what I was expecting lol ) And thanks for teaching me how to make a specific skill ineffective against bosses. It was a lot simpler than I thought.

Good luck with your game as well, I do plan on playing through it soon.

Mind taking a look through my game? I know there are definitely some bugs there, I've listed a few in a devlog and on the game page. but if you happen to find any others, I would appreciate knowing what they are. https://itch.io/jam/rpg-maker-mz-touch-the-stars-game-jam/rate/1132958

That makes sense, ok i’ll refrain from publishing on steam. At least until voting is done. Thanks for letting me know tho!

Alright thank you!

2 other questions I have come to mind. First, will we as the contestants know if our game was disqualified? Like by email or notification or it just not appearing in the submissions for the game jam?

Second question, is it ok for us to post our games to other platforms now that submissions are closed, places like Steam or GOG or other similar platforms? Or would it be best to keep the games here on Itchio? At least until voting ends?

(1 edit)

Hello! Now that submissions are closed, I do have a question regarding the rule about not updating anything? I understand if we release a V.2.0 or any other updates to what was already submitted it's not allowed. But does this rule apply to changing the screenshots provided? or the Coverart? Or adding a video trailer to our project? Or updating the description?

It's my first time making a game and submitting it to a game jam so my apologies if this sounds like a redundant question.
