In Bellows Below, you are an employee for Beholder Industries, who have sent you to spend five nights at a fishing pond. You have one simple task. Fill the fish barrel by morning.

Back in December of 2023 we tasked ourselves with making a game in 3 weeks for Bigmode Game Jam 2023. For this game jam we thought it would be fun to experiment with unlikely game genre combinations, and we ended up with a survival horror fishing game. In order to fit the jam's theme "mode" we added a Game Boy like device called the FishMan. The player must switch between using the FishMan as a tool for fishing (fishing mode) and run around the pond collecting worms and watching out for creatures lurking in the woods (survival horror mode).  These two modes are often juggled at the same time resulting in a paranoia induced multitasking experience comparable to gameplay of Five Nights at Freddy's.

After the Game Jam we discovered that there was a tricky learning curve to the actual fishing, and a lot of player's struggled with this. We added a help button that will give player's guidance on each part of the fishing process and we hope that makes a difference. At the start of development we all agreed to not use our limited time on making a tutorial but instead give the player all the time they need to familiarize themselves with the mechanics before starting their first shift, as well as have fishing be the only focus for the first shift. Hopefully we made the right call but we'd love more feedback on this.

We just released a BIG update for the game. We added a shop to buy fishing upgrades and traps, added different endings as well as some quality of life and bug fixes. If you check it out, THANK YOU! Please report bugs and let us know if you have any ideas to make the game better.

Haunted media is an enthralling concept to explore and I enjoyed your take on it.

The music stood out to me. It was spooky, a little chill and catchy. Was really digging it.

Love the CRT effects over the pixel art. Very retro/nostalgic.

The gameplay itself had a nice variety of parts. Starting with the cute narrative between the ghost and the haunted media expert using dialogue onscreen. I thought adjusting the antennas was a fun interactive way to start the game and introduce the player to the hardware they'll be working with as well as a nice way to ease into the main gameplay.

For the main gameplay you're basically controlling The Grudge on a SNES and I'm all for it. Great pixel art. The volume mechanic is creative and easy to understand. I felt like there was more than enough content for a game jam, and enough there to chew on the concept. I also really liked how you ended the game, but I don't wanna spoil it for anyone.

Very impressed. Nice to see game jam games with a lot of polish and yours even has controller support! I'm curious to see if you'll have any updates for this one.

777 reasons to like this game ;)

Got a glass butt now but I made it to the end! :D nice little platformer!

Cool concept behind this one. I like that you can choose a different part of the body to play on. I found it difficult but maybe that's just me. It'd be so nice if we could do this in real life!

Really dig the clean visuals and fun music. Can't wait till I'm elderly so I can start plowing through bookshelves :P

Funny little runner game. Love it! :) the jump felt like it didn't always work but other than that nice job!

Interesting concept. I was confused at first on what to do but once I figured it out I loved playing as hacker man Alex. Awesome pixel art and music! :)

At first I was confused by how to throw the coal into the engine. I kept picking it up and bringing it to the engine thinking it was taking it and after a couple minutes I figured out I had to press E to throw it, probably me just being dumb. But it made me think is there a point in allowing the player to walk around with the coal, why not just make it so pressing E while on the coal throws it into the engine?

Other than that I think the game is great. Love the pixel art, the music, awesome shooting mechanic and the helicopters were a nice challenge. Great job! :)

I like your approach with moving the end of the level, very clever :) and I love the cute pixel art style!

I dig this one a lot. Great looking pixel art and fun exploration around a well designed space craft. I think the space jumping mechanic was a nice touch and you did well with adding variety to the gameplay. I can tell a lot of care went into making this. :)

Love the command line gameplay, really cool stuff. The graphics are very well polished and have that off-putting creepy vibe.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately our game wasn't made in Unity. It was made in a lesser known game engine called 001 Game Creator and there isn't a lot of support for it. Might be able to fix it similarly with trying to snap to pixels. Didn't get a lot of time to troubleshoot the issue but I'm sure we'll find a fix for it soon.

I like the idea of turning credits into a platformer, really cool! Writing the credits must've taken awhile haha.

Moving around with the balloon feels really satisfying and the pixel art is gorgeous!

First of all the pixel art is beautiful. The shooting feels nice and the cut scene was a nice touch. I don't think the Quit button in the menu is needed if it's running in the browser.

May my PC rest in peace ;(

Really nice visuals and you implemented the pipes puzzle mechanic well. I don't think there's a need for the Quit button in the main menu if it's being played in the browser.

Really enjoyed this nice little "Endie" game. Great concept having the walls close in on you.

I played yours and really liked it :)

I want to use everyone's feedback to fix/make it better and add one more level, but not spend much more time on it.

I think the concept is cool, leaping blindly through the stage to reveal what's there. I like the colors and the glow. Good job!
