This was a lovely little game! Short, but very enjoyable!

Really nice visuals and the gameplay is fun, especially the powerups! This game feels very polished for the amount of time we had in the jam. Well done!

So glad you found a lot to like in the story! I'm definitely impressed with the games like yours that nailed the two themes!

I like that you have the option in the game of persistently pulling up that final baobab, even though it certainly makes going for a high "score" much too easy. I'd like to add other features after the jam ends so that it feels like there are other similar options. For instance, I wanted to add another tracker that would let you know how many sunsets you had seen while on the asteroid (by checking if the sun is in a "setting" position relative to yours). If I do put that in, it could also technically be "broken" because you could just keep walking around at approximately the speed of the sun so that its always in "sunset" position, thus getting tons of sunsets! It might be a nice interplay between doing something enjoyable for yourself (watching sunsets) vs. doing your "duty" to the asteroid (pulling up planks).

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you liked the game! The "you are the weapon" theme is definitely a stretch for this one. I tried to justify it since at least you pull up the baobabs with your own hands (making you maybe sorta weapony?), but it's definitely a bit of a reach!

Thanks so much for the feedback! The ending is sad, but at least you don't have to keep endlessly pulling up baobabs! After the jam, I'll definitely reevaluate some of the gameplay aspects and the typewriter effect.

Thank you for the feedback! That's so good to hear that you enjoyed the graphics and most of the sounds! I'll definitely have to reevaluate the typewriter effect, or at least make it more subtle.

Those are good points! I personally find strolling around the asteroid peaceful, but I can see that it isn't useful for the actual gameplay. Will definitely reconsider some of the gameplay aspects after the jam.

Really great use of the theme! I loved the @steroids, Rockets, and others.

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely work on the gameplay after the game jam, but it is great that you like the art and audio!

Very nice visuals and color choice. I wouldn't have thought of these colors for space but they work really well. I do think the space junk needs to be coded a bit differently. Some plays I was immediately hit from an angle I couldn't block and others nothing came near me for a long time. Could definitely be a lot of fun with a few tweaks!

Overall, interesting game! I could have used a bit more visual feedback because it was kinda hard to tell if I was actually hitting the enemies. I like the money system and the potential to unlock different weapons. Nicely done!

Really nice little game! It's simple, but pretty fun. It would definitely be nice to add some more variety as the game goes on to encourage longer play times. Overall, well done!

Really cool game! I like how the tutorial was integrated into the beginning of the level as the different control elements were introduced. I also thought the 2 color 3D world was really interesting visually.

I really like the visuals and color choice here, especially at the beginning when the text screens! Very nice effects. The lasers could be a bit bigger to make them a little easier to see. I also couldn't see the bar at the top of the screen to tell how far into the level I was. I think the play window might have been a bit too tall for my laptop to show.

The shooting was a bit hard to get the hang of and the game window was a tad too tall to fit on my laptop screen. Could definitely be a nice classic style game with a few tweaks to the controls though.

Really nice game! This definitely fits the themes perfectly and the visuals, though simple, are really effective. I like the color choices as well. Well done!

Thank you! I had a hard time thinking about the pixels with all the rotation--especially the player walking around the asteroid kinda bugs me too because he goes ever so slightly into the asteroid around the corners. Still, I'm glad that overall it looks pretty nice!

Thanks so much for the feedback! It's good to know some parts are working well and helpful to know where they aren't. My intention was for the "game" to be more of an experience than something to "win." Basically, I wanted it to recreate that sinking feeling you get when more and more responsibility is piled onto you so that a seemingly simple if tedious task becomes impossible. It doesn't seem like there are any options, but at least in the game you actually do have options. You can give up right away, abandoning the asteroid without even trying, you can ignore the task and just enjoy the atmosphere until you're ready to leave, you can try your best to complete the task and only leave when things get out of hand, or you can spend eternity pulling up the last sprout. Sure, you'll rack up the number of plants you've pulled, but if the asteroid is doomed, does it really matter?

Anyway, I wanted to use this jam to explore that feeling, but it's totally fine if that's not the "feel" the game gives. It's a good exercise for me in finding out how a game is received vs. how it was intended! I'll learn from this feedback for the next game (or maybe for a retelling of this one!)

Thanks so much for the feedback! Some visuals for where the sprouts will come out would definitely be an improvement.

As for the other point, that was precisely the point of the game. It's not a game that you "win" but instead a micro-story  based loosely on The Little Prince about how easy, tedious tasks can quickly become overwhelming when too many demands are placed on you. However, it's helpful to know that its not being received quite as I intended. I might have to go back to the drawing board on this concept!`

Here is my submission for the 2 Colors Game Jam! I was really worried about finishing in time, but after narrowing the scope a bit, I have something I'm happy with. I had originally planned to have volcanos and a rose on the asteroid as well, but maybe I'll add those in after the jam.

Theme Requirements: Space (your on an asteroid in space!) and You are the Weapon (no one's going to get rid of those baobab sprouts for you, so you've gotta use your own hands to rip them from the ground and hurl them into space!)

Thank you! I definitely learned the importance of getting player feedback on difficulty pacing from this jam--when I was making the game I was way too worried about having it get difficult too fast that I ended up with the exact opposite problem!

(1 edit)

Thank you for the feedback! I'll definitely have the notes add on more quickly in a future build--I'm thinking a new note every two levels rather than five so that the difficulty curve is a lot steeper.

Thank you!!

What a cool game! This is so creative and the puzzles were a lot of fun to solve!

Very interesting game! I will need more time to figure out how to progress all the way, but the concept and dialogue are really neat!

Really cool game design! It was challenging but fun.

Loved the character designs and color scheme!

Thanks so much for the feedback! That was something I was wondering about, so I'll definitely adjust the difficulty curve  a bit once the jam is done.

Really lovely visuals!

Really love the artwork! It fits the minimalist theme yet is so expressive. Really great story as well!

Very charming graphics and nice atmosphere in this game! I was a little confused with the gameplay though--does collecting a certain number of stars allow you to pass the LOCKED portion?

Really nice puzzle game! I liked the slightly rotated perspective and the mechanics work great!

Very cool game! I absolutely love the artwork on the skulls. Reminds me a lot of creepy 1930's style cartoons. Well done!

Thanks so much for the comment and feedback! The Game Development World Championship sounds like a great opportunity and I will definitely consider entering!

As the foreman of the Cat City Construction Company, Construction Cat is one busy kitty. However, he has a big problem: he’s lost all of his construction tools! Can you help him find them all?

Construction Cat: A Level Building Game is a platformer with a twist. Instead of simply playing through pre-designed levels, you must use the provided blocks and your own design skills to build each level in a way that allows you to complete all of the level objectives.  In the first six levels, you must recover Construction Cat’s level building tools. Each tool will allow you to move a different kind of block, leading to new level building possibilities. Once all of the tools have been collected, you must play through the remaining levels to wake up all of Construction Cat’s co-workers so they can get back to work, saving Construction Cat’s construction project!
