Did I do good, boss?

Of course! As soon as it drops on Steam I'll let you know :)

Planning to release to Steam. You cool with commercial use?

what have they done!? it's right back to the way it was tot

EDIT: Ok now it's back... hope i didn't jinx it 😳

I love the new layout for the winter sale! I hope it stays that way. It emphasizes devlogs and content from those I follow. Far better than seeing a host of horror games first-thing.

Still waiting on the exclude filter.

I've unlocked Tiki surfing!!!

> I can't see where you're speaking from.
They're speaking from the heart, silly :3

> It seems to me you talk like you’re entitled to something when they actually don’t owe you anything.
As a user of their platform, they're entitled a good user experience. I hope that's something you strive to bring your users as a game developer ;)

> Of course, I may be missing something.
How very self-aware! You're gonna get far in life.

Hello! I'm glad that this post is sticky, but... why not just add this feature already? It's been like this for at least 5 years. Here are some related threads I've found on the topic:

https://itch.io/t/2020007/filter-out-tags - 1 year ago (links to next)

https://itch.io/t/653769/can-i-exclude-horror-games-tag - 3 years ago (links to next)

https://itch.io/t/160014/can-i-use-exclusion-filters - 5 years ago (an admin actually provides a URL suffix, so obviously there's a way to fix this)

I know NoTimeToPlay (tagged as a moderator) has been answering all of these threads with "I can't do anything about it", but we also have seen Leafo respond to this issue with a temporary and limited solution. Surely he, or other developers of itch.io can expedite this issue so that itch.io isn't seen by non-developers as a horror games platform..

Sure! I didn't see yours linked. What game?

Thanks!

whoopsies!

A bit too long for a game jam in my opinion, so good job on having so much content! Nice narrative at the beginning. Wish there was something in-game that showed where the climbers were in their stats. Would have helped me optimize my play. Good work on the art and music! Seems like it could have benefited from more sound effects for the different actions.

Great graphics; love the sound effects. There could have been music, and the UI prompts seem to persist longer than necessary. I didn't really understand what playing as the thief added to the gameplay. Also would have been nice if I had the option to advance time when finished with my day/night.

STILL a better farming sim than the GameCube version of Harvest Moon.

Reverse frogger? Nice idea! Not only that, but you added several fun and interesting elements on top of that! Unfortunately I couldn't get invested into the gameplay; mostly because I couldn't quite grasp how to optimize my play. There were spaces for hiding, but I felt like I was running away from the frog, and didn't really get a feel for how hiding benefited me. The mangos and jumps were fun, and running into bushes and animals added tension. I think the jumps were too small for me to feel confident about my control over them (even though it seems it was fine). Amazing artwork, music, and scene transitions. Loved the menu setup! Although I wish the play button were more prominent.

Really solid game! Could have benefited from more narrative/lore elements. Amazing level design. I got stuck at level 11. Great polish to the physics. Nice animations and sound cues. Would have liked to have theme music.

Brilliant idea! Great job indicating which attacks need to be blocked, and which blocks make them angry.. The pacing was a bit too fast for me to follow, and I couldn't seem to get a positive score. The indicators for negative points weren't clear.. Maybe having a popup with point values after each action could have helped?

Also great work on the artwork and animations! The audio seemed a bit cartoony. I couldn't tell if that was accidental, or on purpose.

I know my physics, and you spun that chair on purpose ;)

(but I'm also self-conscious, so please tell me if that's not the case 😅)

Also, I'll check the demo after the jam, and I'm on my own PC. I'm on a friend's right now.

No way! Feel free to keep it there. The more eyes on it the better :)

Thanks! Same to you! Will you be updating Pete-stopper after the jam?

Loved the game! This is the second bullet game I've played. You both did them in very unique ways, which I really appreciate. I sucked at aiming, and at steering, but it was fun to fly around trying to run into the enemies!

Glad you enjoyed our game!

You obviously put a lot of thought and attention into this. I hope that this can be a stepping stone to your next great achievemwnt :)

I loved getting to the end of a level just to find out that I needed to go back and kill at least one enemy, or get myself hurt, lol. Really fun game loop! Hope you can do a full release of this!

I loved the final level! I played it like 10 times before I made it through with only 3 achievements! Is there any extra content if you get a perfect score by chance?

[ + + + + +] :: CREATIVITY

You made something completely and utterly new! I had so much fun with it! I loved the implications of your relationship with your dad. Reminds me of my own father.. oof.

Then it's a good thing we stretched it over the mesh for the game ;)

A bit of a learning curve; good to keep the instructions from your itch page visible. Very enjoyable once you get the hang of it. Wasn't able to progress past level 2 because I wasn't sure how at one point. I tried everything I could think of. Glad you made all levels available from the menu for the jam.

Hope you're able to polish and release this game later!

I had a lot of fun with manipulating the world with magic! It's impressive that you combined and integrated so many abilities in only 48 hours! I guess using pre-existing assets must have helped.

I couldn't figure out how to get to the corner in level 2. Maybe the level design could be improved to help imply the steps I needed to take? I tried several combinations of platforms, and even tried to use the level 3 platform to jump onto the roof next to the inn. I wasn't able to jump once I landed on the corner.

[ + + + + -] :: CREATIVITY

I've always wanted to make a game like this (to use magic to solve puzzles in an RPG style world), but I've never given myself the opportunity. I'm impressed that you just went for it! The use of the theme didn't really come through for me, but I hadn't finished the game, either. I give you points for applying the player's kit in a creative way.

[ + + + - - ]  ::  PRESENTATION

The music/sound balance was off. Can't be ignored. I almost didn't realize there was music. There were a few visuals that clashed, but not enough to break the immersion. Nevertheless, you did a great job designing the scenes, and highlighting the intractable objects.

Don't even get him started about the lamb sauce.

I tried not to think about the moral implications of taking a giant pencil to my former co-workers.. but hey! Level up!

I got stuck the first time I tried to walk to the vending machine. I know it was a bit of a cutscene, but it made me think I was supposed to write more emails on the computer. I had to watch the Youtube video before I understood that I could go over to that side and progress the game.

Zombies were flying everywhere! Some were even rolling on the floor. As someone who's implemented enemies before, I feel your pain. It was still a very appropriate level of difficulty to get that pizza party!.. oh wait.. yeah, the boulder.. Guess we WERE the pizza party.

I still give it 4 stars because, in spite of the bugs, it was hella fun!

[ + + + + - ]  ::  PRESENTATION

Loved the stylized low-poly look! There was an issue where the boss cutscene happens when I reset the game, or when I replayed it. Sometimes it wouldn't show up until I was in the middle of fighting zombies.

Cute game about a cat keeping their human. Wholesome, but short. Suffers from edge-cases slowing down progress (literally, I struggled to get key objects out from the edges of the levels)

Still, if these things were optimized, I could see this being a fun and wholesome short game.

I was only able to play 2 sections. Was that intended? The egg and frying pan idea was fun, but both sections suffered from getting items stuck in corners. I had to coax the egg and the ball of yarn out of the corners to progress both times.

[ + + + + -] :: CREATIVITY

It felt like a wholesome spin on pets keeping humans. I liked it. I wish the relationships with them were explored more, but it's hard to get that out of 2 mini-games.

[ + + + - - ]  ::  PRESENTATION

Love it when the tutorial is present in the game. You made good use of the assets available to you. The opening cutscene was intriguing, but I wondered how it connects with the rest of the game. I would give 4 stars if the contexts felt like they fit together more, and 5 stars if there had been something to show that you had gone the extra mile in visuals/audio/transitions

I saw so many cool game mechanics that I felt like I wasn't able to fully enjoy.

I loved the idea of setting traps for the ninjas, but I had a hard time knowing if/how they would help me at night. I didn't feel like there were any clear predictors for me to rely on the traps.

I felt like I was using my ears more than my eyes; listening for footsteps, and not knowing where they were coming from; just frantically hoping to find the ninjas. If I saw the UI prompt to click I clicked. I wish the spotlight felt more mechanically useful. Sometimes I wasn't sure if I had nabbed a ninja or not.

I also wish I could have turned boxes over, or something because there were times I saw a ninja get under a box, then waited for them to exit (without the spotlight on). It cost me time that I could have been using on patrol.

Perhaps you could lower the difficulty, or buff some of the mechanics.

[ + + + + -] :: CREATIVITY

Great job on the creativity! A reverse stealth game with Ninjas infiltrating a museum! Loved the concept. I couldn't give 5 stars because I felt like there could have been an extra dimension of creativity that contributed to a more memorable experience.

Perhaps there could have been a narrative element; like the ninjas were stealing back ancient relics for their homeland; or that the museum owner had pissed off the yakuza, and they wanted revenge. Just some ideas. Maybe more about you, the player, too.

[ + + + + - ]  ::  PRESENTATION

Liked what I saw, good animations and lighting. I didn't see anything outstanding, but it's no small feat to have an animation and sound associated with each object and action in 48 hours. I almost withheld another star for the lack of clear feedback from actions, but I think that was punished enough in the Enjoyment section.

(1 edit)

Thanks. Also, I meant to give presentation 5 stars as well. You're one of 5 games that I've given 15 stars.

Wow, thanks for the detailed feedback! Yeah, I'm aware of the optimization issue; there's a region around the torso that checks for body parts; but whenever the player is there it checks it every frame.. I forgot to exclude the player from the check. Going to fix that in the next build.

And yeah, the grabbing could be better too. Will fix. Thanks!

Glad you had fun with it!

Yes, the lagging happens because there's a detector for the torso that looks for body parts. Unfortunately we forgot to optimize for certain conditions, so it lags the game. It'll be the first thing we fix after the jam. Thanks for playing our game!

Hahaha! Nice! You're the second person to find the stoolar engine! (name in the works)

Also, that's an amazing idea; to use anything as the body parts? I'm going to talk with the team about it and we might look into making that a feature!
