Awesome record. I was hoping to make different levels, but the holiday season had just too much going on!

I'm from the United States!

Awesome game! I love it. The sound, the visuals, all are soo creepy in just the right way. Your animation creeped the heck out of me, too!

I wasn't quite able to beat it. I think the game got stuck...

I was trying to avoid those guys that chase you in the section where you have to guess which way to go... and the game got stuck in this spot with the sound playing on loop! :(

You're welcome, I hope you enjoyed! I definitely dialed back the scope because of how busy the holiday season was for me. This was my first platformer game... I definitely will have to try making more. It was quite relaxing making something different than what I usually try to make and I learned a lot doing it.

Ha! Good job! I have a hard time completing the course without falling. :(

Awesome, my friend! I enjoyed this. Thank you for being my secret Santa! Great job on finishing a jam game, too. The timeline, especially around Christmas, is difficult to work with.

I enjoyed the game. I like the visuals. The scan lines are really cool. I'll have to try adding scan lines to a future game of mine. The game you made is quite addicting. Simple and easy to pick up game are the best.

I haven't played Vampire Survivors, so this is actually my first Survivors-like game. Though, I'm familiar with the concept since it seems to be quite popular. Pretty tense gameplay. I love the thrill of being swarmed by the bats. It took me a minute to figure out that you automatically shoot and the direction you shoot is at the closest bat. Pretty nifty!

Looks like Faith, too! I love it!

He killed them. He keeps their bodies around and talks to them... His delusional fantasy makes him believe they're still alive. :)

The previous Lyko Horror Jam (#1) had the following categories which were judged: 1 - Audio. 2 - Spooky Level. 3 - Style. 4 - Innovation. I'm not sure if it'll be the same this time around.

Thank you! For a post jam version to help with the getting lost problem, I was planning on adding some variation to the textures... just to help a little bit.

So, for having her show up, I just had it so when the match is burned out (after 13 seconds I believe) the the screen goes black. And then I would have a variable count down... depending on the time left variable, the woman's frames would cycle. When you strike a match, that variable would still be where it was. So essentially is just a timer that counts down. When it hits 0, the jump scare scene is run. I hope that makes sense! I'm always willing to share my secrets! :)

This one was a bit rough around the edges. Though, you're on your way to a start in creepy game making. I was a bit frustrated at first not knowing how to play the game. But, I persevered and figured it out! Though, I'm still a little confused about it. :) Good job finishing a jam game and in Scratch, too! Very nifty!

Some improvements would be to fix the spawning at the beginning, and maybe having the game automatically get into a beginning state. Having textures for the ground graphics will also give the illusion that the player is moving, right now it's hard to tell you're moving in tree free areas. Footstep sound effects would be nice to give the illusion you're moving as well.

By far the best part of the game you did right was the chase sequence and having the enemy popping up. The music changing to something more intense when the enemy is near was pretty well done. Running from the enemy actually felt scary and I felt threatened and spooked out during those sequences.

This one was weird, in a really good way. The footstep sound was kinda off-putting, but the rest of the audio was great, so I was able to look past it. The slowing clock chime sound really unnerved me. Interesting visuals and weird creatures keep the game fresh, it truly felt like a dream. This jam has some really good entries and this is no excepting. What at first seemed like an ordinary walking simulator turned into a surreal dreamscape that was fun to experience.

This is why I love indie horror. Games like this, innovative and just different than AAA titles. Thank you for the strange journey, my friend!

This one was pretty creepy, perhaps more so for me because I spent the Covid-19 days watching cave rescue videos! I enjoyed the concept and the art was unsettling, especially the gruesome scene of the guy and the monster. The atmosphere was pretty good, too. I liked the cold blue tone everything had, and the lighting was pretty solid, too. The game actually started feeling tense, with the platforming and the strange discoveries you find throughout the cave get you psychologically and linger in your mind. Touche, my friend! Overall pretty balanced, too.

Some suggestions for you if you were to continue with this project: I would consider adding an oxygen meter to sort of make the player pushed into pressing forward, might add some anxiety. Plus, it would be cool to have a death animation of running out of oxygen. It would also be really cool to have different paths with different scenes/scares, etc. So you could have different endings and some replayability.

I was having issues running your game at first (I was using Linux and I was getting crashing at first, but I figured it out!) Though, I meant to play this one sooner because it looked nifty!

Oh, and looks like you might forgot to add some collision to this section! hehe

Thanks, this is my first 3D game so I played it very safe on level design, I was worried people would hate it being a maze! It was inspired by the old Windows 98 screensaver that I always wish I could play...

This one was pretty unique. The effort you put into mocking up a fantasy phone really makes it feel like you're playing on something different. The virtual pet gameplay seems to be pretty solid. The scares are more of an underlying spookiness that lingers with you for a bit, the start contrast between the cheerful feel good beginning to the strange and ominous ending... masterful! Good job with your haunted video game, you've mastered innovation and style on this! Splendid work, my friend!

This one was pretty solid. Good job. I like the choice of big spaces or small spaces. I think the best part of the game is the grungy texture work, the textures really sell the setting for me. Nicely done, my friend! The map is a cool concept and the game feels pretty challenging and anxiety inducing... just how I like them!

I think for the flashlight, you should consider adding a small-faintly lit OmniLight3D so the flashlight itself can slightly be seen and the walls can be seen when you are close. Might make the lighting system pop a little more!

Thank you! It was a fun experiment that I'm definitely going to expand on.

Good advice, I actually varied the pitch randomly each footstep, but I should have had more variation and a couple different footstep sounds to use. Its something that I'm working on for the post jam version. There are a lot of things that I want to improve on!

Thanks!

This is incredibly wholesome. Y'all made my Halloween! Thanks for sharing! :D

Thanks, good luck to you as well. Hopefully, your progress is going splendidly!

Howdy! Good to see someone else interested in the jam!

It was made in Unity :)

You can use the free Pico-8 Education Edition, link here: https://www.pico-8-edu.com/

:D

Is a Linux version in the works?

Also, I don't see the downloads for the first two in my library. :/

Fun little game. Reminds me a lot of VVVVVV. Refreshing gameplay! Good work 👏

I noticed you use Unity. Is there any hope for Linux ports in the future??

For real, this guy cranks them out! It's like episodes of a really good horror anthology!

Bro, your artwork is ALWAYS amazing! Great game as always. :)

Thanks! These will come in handy! :D

Seriously, that sucks! I hate people that steal projects... :(

Thank you so much. I'll certainly check out these titles! This is a very valuable resource.

Can't wait to work on my project  for this jam and see what brilliant creations everyone comes up with!  :)

Hi, I'm interested in this game jam. I don't really have much experience with horror RPG development, so I've been looking for some interesting horror RPGs to play to get a good feel for the genre. I have looked into the three mentioned in the jam info (Ib, Witch's House, and Mad Father) so far, I've purchased Mad Father on the Switch. I also have played Corpse Party on PC.

Are there any games that anyone reading this think I should try out? I have a PC and a Nintendo Switch.

What a great little Christmas surprise. I'm puzzled though, how did you get the stretched pixel effect in Pico-8? And the resolution? I thought Pico-8 only allowed 128x128, and 64x64 with a special POKE command.

Anyways, great game. I love the look and feel of a classic Atari game. Kind of reminds me of a Rankin/Bass Christmas film in video game form. Fun stuff!

WOW! Hands down the best platformer I've seen for Pico-8. This game has lots of polish and is immensely entertaining!

I love it. Great job. The artwork suits the game extremely well. I haven't beaten it yet, but am enjoying the puzzles, story, and atmosphere so far!

Great experience!

The artwork was absolutely gorgeous! The poem really takes life in your clever stage design and eerie visuals.

I was intrigued to find out that Carcosa was used by Robert W. Chambers, as I'm familiar with the Ambrose Bierce story - an Inhabitant of Carcosa.

Yes! This is awesome. Great for game designers block!

Topic - religious tales. Genre - art game. Mechanic - king making. Location - underwater base. Nifty tool, I just might try to make a Pico-8 game with this! :D

(1 edit)

I got to level 41 on my first try, it starts to get quite chaotic at that point. Very fun game and easy to pick up the mechanics and play. I can't wait to see this gem in the finished PICOWARE cart! Great job!

This looks amazing, I love that there are still gamers out there making new classics for the classic systems. I absolutely cannot wait to play this INSTANT CLASSIC!!
