Any bugs? Suggestions? The floor is open with this first playable build of the alpha demo!
Thanks for playing you absolute legend
A game about being a kid in the 90s during the pogs craze! · By
So glad this is finally out! I just did a sort of speed run to complete everything in the journal, and I'm definitely excited to see what's to come.
From my quick play through
- This is a breathtaking feat of self indulgence!
Great work, I'll keep my eye out for the next update, and let you know if I come up with any other feedback.
Thank you for the feedback and bug reports!
Alpha v 4.1 is now uploaded with the following changes
You can see this outlined more in the changelog in the new version that has just been uploaded. Give it a play!
I haven't been able to recreate the bug where wearable items are left detached from the player but I'm still on the case. If you can recreate it in any specific sequence of actions please let me know, meanwhile transferring your selected clothes to the player while they are mowing remains on the bug list and will be fixed by next update.
More depth to the pogs battle gameplay, especially user agency
There are certainly some ways the battle gameplay can be improved such as allowing the player to manually aim the slammer and get rewarded by better slams for accuracy instead of just clicking "slam", this will likely be in another update soon.
Selective pog wagers
There certainly is no avoiding this, the player should be able to keep their favorite pogs without seeing it randomly lost in battle. It may be necessary to rethink how the value of pogs based on rarity and coolness affects fair battles. Blade pogs are cooler than regular pogs but are hologram pogs cooler than blades? And how do we avoid cheesing opponents by wagering our plain pogs against their high value pogs? Monetary and coolness values will have to be considered. A community discussion will probably be needed for this later!
Varying the size of stacks in battle is also a possibility but will have ramifications on a number of other things so I'll be chewing on that one for a while.
Happy slamming!
Glad to see an update so quickly!
I ran into a few issues:
- First play-through the game froze at the dialogue when trying to mow the lawn.
- Second play-through I got warped outside of the play area, I tried to get back in, but couldn't find a seam. The warp happened as I walked out of the store and into the park right around the time I stepped on the grass... Maybe I shouldn't have gone outside and touched some grass!
- Third play-through 100% completion, but I was able to recreate the helmet and vest getting stuck on the sidewalk while I mowed, I also found a repeatable (at least in that play-through) where the holographic 7ball pog will clone itself and start filling up the screen if you mouse over it (inventory or when it shows up at the bottom of a game). I got screen shots, but I can't seem to upload them here for some reason... I can try again if you need them. Additionally Speed Skate gets impossibly fast pretty quickly. It was cool to see it working though!
Gear getting stuck:
- Talk to Thomas, Complete his quest, equip the helmet and vest, mow the lawn... I tested it twice and it worked both times.
Selective POG wagers:
- I feel like this would open up a lot of interesting possibilities (battles requiring you to have a specific pog/tier of pog, high-stakes battles, etc.), and it would give players something to aim for in collecting higher tier pogs... Definitely a challenge to figure out what falls there, but could be a good opportunity for community involvement. Make posts that allow the community to help you decide what pogs fall where!
Known Issues:
- I did notice the cap getting stuck in the air and on 1 of 2 mowings it took a long time to get past 98%.
Update Feedback:
- I'm really glad we can see prices now! With how many pogs you're starting to get, I'd like to see categories/tiers to help organize them. I'm imagining multiple columns so I can scroll vertically and horizontally, with the columns sort of mirroring the game itself.
- I don't know if luck just wasn't on my side or if the girl in the park just got much harder. I beat Lance (I think, the kid leaning up against the building) relatively easily both times. The girl was another story though, it took me a bunch of tries to beat her to the point where I was about to run out of pogs and I already had spent all of my money and beaten Lance! Not a bad thing, just thought I'd point it out.
Looking forward to the next update!
Thanks again Classy you've been a great help. New build just uploaded! These recent updates address a number of things you've reported. I have had difficulty recreating the 7ball glitch and wearable items remaining stuck in place by the mowing mission though I have tracked down a number of plausible causes and hopefully got them fixed! If not please let me know or I hope someone else points them out. A proper bug reporting feature will be added soon as well. Meanwhile general gameplay issues like the girl being overpowered and winning too often and the player perhaps being too shorthanded on pogs are top of the list.
Looking good! I like the beginning dream sequence! The handheld game worked really well!
- During the dream sequence, I pulled out the POG and then jumped on it. I did it before the Golden Slammer appeared. Not necessarily a bad thing, just letting you know what i did.
- I completed Thomas' job, then tried to equip my helmet, skateboard, slap bracelet, and helmet. They didn't show up on my character, I tried toggling the menu a accessories a few times, but they still wouldn't show up. I still got the points for wearing them and completed the fashion mission... When I started the mowing mission all of my gear showed up as equipped.
- After completing all missions, I spent all of my money and then started skateboarding on the road. I noticed my helmet and vest in the middle of the road. Not sure if they were there the whole time or didn't show up until I got on the skateboard. I ran the stuff over which put me at a 45 degree angle, and made it hard to move around. I got off the skateboard and everything worked fine.
- I was able to recreate the pog multiplying on screen. This time it was a holographic, skull, blade. I just opened my inventory and ran my mouse over all of the pogs to see if it would happen.
Oh yeah those are some serious ones thanks for the heads up, I verified and fixed the wearables again with an upload just now. Still on the case regarding the previewed pogs smearing and some other things. As for the tutorial lesson, maybe the players should be able to stand and jump around on the stack after building it! In fact you might want to try to do the special slam while standing on it just for fun now that I've added a stable platform and special interaction there.
I also added a bug tracking option in the main menu which should allow quick and easy bug reporting! I might start a new discussion thread for general feedback and suggestions and hopefully your outstanding playtesting here leads as a good example. I can also add some debugging options (like cheat codes) to more easily allow playtesters to teleport around the level and activate things like adding some money or unlocked items to avoid rerunning the same thing again and again, and of course save games which would also solve this are a high priority for next updates.
