A game jam where we team up Seasoned devs with Beginners and Semis

The idea would be to have a form where people send along with their seniority on game dev, along with it's area of expertise. This way we can team up Veterans with Beginners.

What's in it for them?
Veterans:
  • get to practice leadership, mentoring, counseling and coaching
  • make new contacts
  • have a project that can be shown as they own managed
    • This improves their resume directly
Beginners-Semi seniors:
  • accelerate their learning
  • make new contacts
  • most likely end up with a finished project
    • This improves their resume directly

The theme of the jam would need to be something easy to brainstorm around, so the development starts quickly because the purpose would not be creativity but to have a finished project

What do you guys think?

How do you know which participants are newbies and which are veterans? and how do you encourage these two groups to join forces?

As I said, we'll ask them to fill a form and there we'll ask for seniority level. It can also ask for some kind of resume and be evaluated from there.

The senior person will be coached by me (I'm a senior in team development and project management) to lead and organize with the team.

Everyone will get benefit from it

That'd be awesome! I love teaching other devs.

It'd be awesome to have you, you have plenty experience.

Thanks for commenting!

Thanks :D
Is there a link to the jam or a estimate of when it's going to be posted?

I am currently going through a couple of projects to start setting the bases of this. If you are up to help, I'd love to talk. Find me in discord with my current username

Hello. I am trying to learn how to code in ren'py (python). I watched ren'py tutorials. I watched python tutorial. I don't get it. It is frustrating. Often times people will say do this, but not explain the process. Even longer turorials focus more on  width than depth.

I love pen and paper games, but most people are more interested in video games. I would appreciate help traslating a pen and paper game to a video game.

If it is not too much trouble I would like help making a simple combat system. The biggest barrier I am facing is classes (objects). I don't understand object orriented programing. Different tutorials say different thing. Would you be able to explain oop to me?

I'm not a pro with python, but I'd be glad to help you a bit and if you're open to learning a new language, I know many. You can DM me on discord: sniper6138 or you can email me: realsniperapps@gmail.com

What a boss. Thanks for helping this guy

Sure i would love the participate, i have over 3-4 years of unity experience so prob fall in intermediate.

it'd be interesting to offer the possibility to mentor or to be the producer, or develop. Everyone would benefit.

It would be cool if someone taught me how to work with Unity, but I don’t understand it at all, I have a maximum of 2 unfinished games ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This sounds amazing, practical, hands on approaches benefit a wide range of learners and the encouragement and accountability would really go a long way to inciting new devs. I’ve been trying to figure out just where to start with a Godot game of mine!

Love your enthusiasm! I'll see how to proceed with this
Thanks for the encouragement!
