New Decker Article in ChoiceBeat zine

Greetings, Deckmancers! I wanted to share an article I whipped up about Decker for the latest issue of  ChoiceBeat (The Visual Novel and Interactive Fiction Zine). I tried to cover the basics, some of the obvious features/modules that could be used for VN/IF, as well as some more oddball musings on Decker’s dreamy atmospherics. Also included, a haphazard sampling of some of my favourite text-heavy/choice heavy game decks thus far. I definitely didn’t do justice to the sheer amount of games, tools, zines and other non-game decks out there. But hoping it at least gets some new eyes on this amazing tool. If you do get a chance to read it, let me know what you think!

A really wonderful article. I knew it was going to be particularly good as soon as I saw the Marshall McCluhan quote. :)

And it was nice getting to read more about your insights about the medium as a deckmaker (deckmancer!).  The potentially dreamlike time and space relationships between scenes, between cards, is something I haven't played with enough but I'm always fascinated by it in other people's work.

Ah, thanks very much for reading and your thoughtful comments. McCluhan is so useful when you’re just trying to figure out what’s going on in the background…

Thanks for including me ! ❤️
