After three attempts I managed to see the credits screen. Amazing atmosphere, UX, and humor. The music is not annoying despite it has a short loop, and I loved the crescendo part of the frist theme (before the first "event"). One of the things I love of this genre is that it leaves a lot of room for imagination, and the vibe you guys put into the descriptions made filling those gaps funny.
Don't quite like the attack mechanic. It requires some sort of rhythm-skill, which I liked, but it took me a lot to understand it. In most of the encounters in my final run I managed to escape the fights, which felt great.
The game progression was one of my favorite things. After the first event, I couldn't stop thinking about anything other than wondering what would be next, and that was my reason to kept playing. Though, never got to had enough money to buy the upgrades with the coolest names.
What is the Cargo for? Didn't see it change in any of my game sessions.
So glad you had such a good time! Fully agreed on the combat — time, of course, prevented us from adding more depth. The story on cargo is similar; we had plans to implement more items and some form of economy or trading system, but stuck to making sure we could implement the various upgrades.
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback!
Had a few runs and enjoyed it. It's the sort of game you could flesh out endlessly with more stuff, but what you did gives a great sense of the game. It's easy to get wrecked if you're unlucky at the moment, but makes it more cool when you do get an upgrade :)
I played the game a bit, but I really had no clue what I was doing. I ended up leaving the game running to come back to it, and the game was glitched(Don't worry this probably has nothing to do with your programming). The concept is cool, I just don't have much grasp in actually playing it.
I got stuck pretty quickly. There wasn't any option to back out of the shopping dialogue and I had no credits to spend, so I was stuck on that screen without anywhere to go. Tried quitting and restarting and got stuck again really quickly - went to check the events and nothing was there. Couldn't back out to try anything else.
Wow, your game feels good af. I liked the sound and the minimal controls. I see a lot potential in it as it was really unique and new. Hope you continue working on it. Impressive game for a jam! Great job!
Hey, this is a neat little roguelike! It looks polished, plays smoothly, and the randomly generated systems are created with probable, well-balanced layout and contents. It's tough, but I expect roguelikes to be tough--you're not getting the full experience if you don't get smashed the first couple of times!
The galaxy did feel pretty sparse and the events were spread thin, but that's okay for a jam version--the basic engine is really solid and you can always add more planets, quests, goals, and items later on to flesh it out more.
This was a cool little rogue space adventure game! I really loved the music and the atmosphere you created. Like another person said, this reminded me FTL. At first I tried a gamethrough while trying to stay peaceful, but I quickly realized that this was not really the way to thrive in space. My second run I was the ultimate destroyer, engaging every ship I could. This had me quickly running with 10K and a reputation of a dark jedi throughout the galaxy. I just waiting to run into another rich merchant, hoping to put my hands on the latest most dangerous weapon (don't offer me that crappy basic platting, I'm rich now!)... when I ran into what seemed like a super star destroyer which put my ship down after a few seconds. They were kind enough to leave me with half of my hard-earned credits after disabling my entire ship and destroying my hull. Thanks guys!
The story line was really enjoyable, it was fun to follow through with the various events, and the difficulty level seemed kind enough that I would run into enemies that I could always sort of handle, depending on my current ship properties.
A few improvements I'd suggest:
Great little game, I played for about an hour and still feel like there's stuff to discover.
Awesome job!
Thanks for the detailed feedback! I'm so glad you were able to find a story for yourself in playing in addition to what we wrote. Should we get the chance to expand, I would love to make that part of the experience deeper and more prominent. Thank you for your suggestions and your review!
interesting game. Reminds me a bit of FTL but in console mode.
That was one of our inspirations, for sure!
DOS... The good old days
