The world is fantastic and the setting is gorgeous. I'm curious how much you've been thinking about it in between jams to maintain continuity. The "party" characters are all very interesting. Awesome!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, that jam lets you do design/writing before it starts, so I'd thought about it a bit. But hadn't really locked anything in, just some vague ideas of where I'd like it to go. Until I sit down and start actually working on something I find it hard to get anywhere usually.

And yeah, I've enjoyed the "building a party" way of approaching the characters!

Really impressive art, polish, and writing all around. The sheer density of interesting details and the extensive flavor text for each screen and interactable object make this an appealing throwback to classic adventure games without the baggage. I'm excited to see more!

Alright, I didn't play The Telwynium: Book One when it came out and this new chapter has given me the opportunity to do it. After catching up on that, I was ready for something similar, but, compared to the first one (which is already very well made), this is a leap forward in terms of writing, puzzles and polishing level. Pity that it's not finished yet, but the deus-ex-machina style intervention by the author at the end cracked me up and made up for that. The game really gives off the vibes of good old adventure games! Well done!

A beautiful and very cleverly written game! The pacing and world-building are brilliant - it gives you just enough information about the setting and the characters to feel deep and intricate, but also knows when to pull the brakes and let your imagination fill the blanks. It successfully convinces you that you are in the middle chapter of a dense fantasy novel, and it leaves you with the feeling that you have experienced a much bigger story. The puzzles are challenging and very traditionally point-and-clicky (which is a plus for me), the plot is eventful and the retro graphics are extremely charming. The only downside is that this time around, it doesn't reach the planned ending for this chapter, and I really wanted to see that skeleton monster come to life! Luckily I happened to get stuck on the one thing I needed to do to reach the end :), so I still managed to experience all the content there is - and there is a lot! Great job as always!

How dare you be the absolute last game I played in the jam, after I'd already put together my best-of list, and force me to go back and add you. How dare you, sir. Such audacity.

You really captured the look of those old DOS games. It's that 16-color dithering on the black background. Super classic, a little pixel hunty but no worse than the actual classic DOS games. Your fantasy world is really intriguing; I like the weird races. And the puzzles were just right--they really got me thinking but I never had to look anything up. My only objection is that I really wanted to get across the river!

Wonderful job! The puzzles, story and pacing all mesh together beautifully, and I look forward to playing the full version.

(I think I ran into a bug where the topic to ask Otarr if he'd made anything with the clay impression after giving him the impression and the hammer never showed up, though.)

I loved the first part - and I loved this second one (even if shorter - I really really want to play more :-) )

A tribute to this game genre that's more than perfect - as rhythm and puzzles - with an extra quality for the graphics part - congratulations :-)

Played the first part of this story before, so I knew what to expect... Yep, still atmospheric, well told and just pretty! And the ending... LOL :-)

Wow I enjoyed Intergalactic Wizard Force in a past game jam, and this is just another masterpiece! It's a true retro adventure game, with such great vibes! The art is stunning, I love it so much. You have a real talent for these games. Awesome!!!

Thanks! I remember your one about the village, looking forward to checking out your entry for this jam too!

Thanks for your reply! Oh you remember My Magical Village O_O
I hope you like this new game, even if it's very different!

Dave, this is phenomenal as always. I really dig the art and puzzles. I clocked over an hour on this and misses a hotspot or two and it was fine. There’s so much running from room to room getting new items and solving puzzles it’s insane. You got so much mileage from 5 rooms and none of it felt like busy work.

I love the story and writing and it’s basically a Wheel of Time style adventure with retro art. Would love to hear these characters voiced someday. I love the density of puzzles and while nothing in brain-bending, there is a lot to do and a lot of items and a lot to pay attention to. The overall effect is enjoyable.

I understand the design decision to make you need to read room text and pay attention to find hotspots. That’s the only real friction I can think of.

I know how you did all this but still don’t know how you pulled it off in 2 weeks. You say it’s unfinished and short of what you intended but nobody would ever know if you didn’t tell them. There’s so much here to see and do.

Just take these production values, make it 5x longer (4x with Book 1), shove in voice acting and put it on Steam! No need to spend 3 years super polishing it. Add voice, sounds and some animation and go! Do it in your spare time and just chip away as a mental break from Drifter!

Special mention for Brandon’s music here. It’s pitch perfect and the main theme is amazing. So melodic and memorable.

Love everything about this series.

Thanks for the kind words on the music, George! :)

Thanks George! I reckon while I'm still working on the drifter I'll keep these as hobby projects, maybe just so mentally I don't start taking them as seriously. It's not like a game this style can age any more than it already by sitting on it for a few years ha ha!

Doing puzzles this style is easier I think, with just lots of objects scattered around the rooms. Think of random objects you need, put them in a room that makes sense, and then think of something you need in *another* room before you can get that... rinse and repeat.  With this setting it's a lot easier to think of stuff that makes sense in the world. Harder on the Drifter where I'm trying to avoid anything that feels contrived in the serious setting. I'm getting better at it with practice too I guess. I'm trying to get more bang for buck out of Drifter scenes too, since that art takes a lot longer.

Looking great thus far.  I really enjoy the epic music and story continues to be intriguing.  Also, I think the puzzles/mechanics are more creative in this one thus far.  Great storytelling and temporary conclusion. :-)

Reminds me of the old 8-bit games.

It was a little difficult for me to understand the mechanics but then it became easy.

Creativity is very good, I liked it a lot.

I really enjoyed playing this game! Look forward to the post-jam release!

Really impressive game, especially for a jam (even if I understood well it's a sequel). The art is really amazing, really create a 90s nostalgia wibe.
