Interesting concept, but it was super unforgiving lol. I think more work needed to be done on the generation patterns for the bullets as there were a ton of times when going in the wrong direction led to death because the precision required to move between the bullets was pretty insane.
I think it might've been better if every bullet that passed out the bottom increased your score, with the grazing mechanic adding an extra set of points (or maybe a combo multiplier). Some bullets going faster than others would've also added an interesting spin on the mechanic (or even bullets that moved between lanes). Also, even if you manually timed the BPM and used that timing for generation or something, it would've added a lot to the game (and more SFX, lol, there was very little feedback for the player).
Overall, a commendable effort for the jam =D
Rhythm game on the contrary is an interesting idea.
Good luck in development =)
The music is amazing, the mechanics need polish even it responds pretty fast it feels like the insta teleportation is an obstacle more than a help to the player, overall well done
I love rhythm games! The music is nice!! Great Jam :D
Interesting twist on a rhythm game. With a "graze" mechanic it might be good to take a page out of shmup design and have an indicator for where the player's hittable area is. Also might be nice to have some kind of feedback for when a successful graze is done aside from just the points counter.
Very responsive, I just think you need to balance creating obstacles and getting into the rhythm.
The gameplay was basic. I feel like there needs to be more obstacles or power ups to keep it interesting and increase replayability. Instead of a 1 hit kill, maybe you should make a health bar so the game is more forgiving (the tone of the music feels relaxed while the gameplay demanded you to dodge perfectly or you start over).
The music was upbeat and catchy. I play a lot of rhythm games and I'm disappointed that the music has no effect on the gameplay. Despite the word being in the title, there's no rhythm involved.
One thing I'd change is to draw a subtle line on the player's movement axis so they can see whether they'll hit an object before moving. It's a small quality of life change that will improve the gameplay.
Overall, good job with the game!
Thank you so much, it makes me really happy to know the music is enjoyable to other people. We'll be working on making our stuff better and better as we move forwards, thanks!
Cool game! I do wish the rhythm was a little more relevant for this game, since it felt like the game would have played the same without the music. Some variety in the mechanics might have been nice, too. Thought it was neat overall though!
awsome!
80s music sounds really good and fits well with the theme you have going on! Think my biggest gripe is that I don't feel the rhythm when moving so much. Feels a little more like dodging bullets than trying to keep time and there were some instances where I felt I couldn't do anything but die as moving would lead to me getting caught in some of the bullets. So it required looking ahead more to see where the bullets were coming from and then making my decision on where to go. I think this decision making made it feel more like dodging rather than the dancing I'm more familiar with when it comes to rhythm games. The music really did have a solid rhythm to it though and I definitely found myself trying to copy the beats it had so it was a really nice foundation. I also enjoy graze mechanics. Really makes it tense and fun!
Hey man, I'm so glad you enjoyed the music! We did struggle a bit with the gameplay side of things but just knowing people are enjoying the tune is a victory on my book. Thanks for the feeback!
