  • The only thing I really didn’t like about this game is when it was over. The idea here is really solid, and there’s a lot of room to expand. The first move fake out where you just chuck the piece was surprising and satisfying, and then having some actual brain-teasers within that new physically-based chess space was delightful.

    • Physics-engine dependence can keep you from solving a puzzle even if you have the correct solution
    • Disappointingly short

    The only problem I ran in to was having the correct solution to the 4th level a few times and the physics just not having it - it was confusing and a bit distressing, but a clever puzzle all the same. I would really like to see it keep expanding the conventions, perhaps with different board shapes and levels, or puzzles that involve pieces coming to rest and moving again.

Note: the chess piece models have an absurdly high number of polygons and mouse input breaks when running in Sandboxie. I'll fix those two issues in a later build!

I was not expecting a wierd fusion between bowling and chess nor did I expect it to work so well! Really nicely made.

The lack of sounds is a little disappointing.

The HUD seems bugged, as it doesn't display the amount of points you need to pass until you actually score any points.

There needs to be a better explanation of what the rules are, I think? It doesn't take very long to figure out at least, so that's not too bad.

I think you need some idea of the point-worth of each piece as otherwise the only way to find out is by trial and error. Make it kinda tricky to plot out what might be the best move.  

The game is disappointingly short right now, but what there is has definite potential and was more fun than I expected it to be!

Sorry about the lack of sound.  Implementing some sort of physics noise when things collide or indicators when you score/lose points or win a level would help a lot. The HUD bug it's definitely something I noticed and will fix for later release. Including a short tutorial even if it's a pair of infographic things could describe the goal of the game and the value system for pieces. If I can I'll include a way to make your own levels with .csv spreadsheets along with more levels.

Well, I like the idea as an evolution in Chess, taking the game of grand, complex strategies and making it more user-friendly by just tossing pieces at other pieces much in the way that some children of North America in the 90s hurt our fingers playing GoGos or Crazy Bones (how is this still a thing?). I think this could be a fun and interesting puzzle game, it just needs more puzzles to play and some polish to make it more presentable.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree 100% with your pros/cons. Messed up scheduling left me with an hour to create levels after I had the game mostly working before the deadline. I spent that time making sure the few I had made worked and fixing other things that came up. Right now editing level data is really clunky, so I am planning on having levels just be CSVs in the game directory that can be edited as spreadsheets. I'm surprised you mentioned all of those other old toy lines and not Pog Slammers (I still hear jokes about those).

Cool idea, I do think it has potential. It's definitely best when you have a lack of expectations and go for a normal play on turn 1. I couldn't seem to beat level 4, wasn't sure what the right strategy was. I tried it quite a few times and couldn't get the hang of it. Also seems like the end turn detection is kind of wonky? It would say 2/2 turns taken, but not end the game until I moved my 3rd piece.

I'll try to figure out making a timer that ends  or restarts the level after a certain amount of time waiting for pieces to move after the last move is made. Right now using more moves is the only way to actually reset the level!

The solution to Level 4 is all about bouncing the Pawn off of the friendly Queen to hit the lined up pieces in the back. The game never really shows you that doing that is possible. I'll include a level that remedies that in a later build.

I laughed out loud when I won on my first move in the first level thinking I was making a good chess opening. A wonderful fun concept and I want more levels!

Update on the menu not working in Sandboxie issue: It appears that Sandboxie prevents onclicked events on objects in the world from doing anything for some reason.I am currently working on just using a camera-aligned-raycast for all of those instead. I'll update the game to fix that and a variety of other issues when I can on the 18th.

I really enjoyed that. I think it missed a little bit of its potential because I really wanted to just play a full game of chess, side against side, where you throw chess pieces at each other. But I'm a big fan of these types of physics fun games and this was a great example. (Now go and make that level with all the chess pieces available) :)

I gotta say, I really wasn't expecting this. The final level actually shows some promise for an actual strategy game! It threw me for a loop, pun intended. Good work :)

Thanks! To be honest, I should have made it more clear that pieces on your side don't have physics enabled. I'm glad you liked it.
