The game has a cool style and feels like it could be easily made into a bigger metroidvania style game.
The second and third houses were a bit long without the checkpoints and since you get the hang of beating each trap after a few tries, it just feels tedious to navigate everything else again just because you slipped and fell into salt just before the end of the level.
Would love to play more of it though
I like the pixel look and the Chiptune-ish vibe of the music. What I would love to see in the settings would be an option to choose between autoscroll text in cutscenes and a tab-to-scroll mechanic, because the text was a bit too fast for me. With this setting everyone could set their own pacing individually. By the way I really appreciated that you can hit the small picture off the wall to the floor, a nice little detail. If I could have figured out how to enter the second and third door I would probably still be playing. With an interesting story this game has a lot of potential being able to create very enjoyable moments. If you consider updating it, I will definitely take a look and play more.
Thanks for the review! You get double jump after beating first one, so it can help you get into second house. Unfortunately, I'm not sure about updating this game in the future. Platformers is kinda not my types of games, so most likely this will be the final version of this project :(
the game is with good humor. several gameplay, but the player's hit box and the level design spoil it all a bit. we die in a loop and the music starts again each time. a bit of a shame but apart from this aspect the game is successful.
Nice little game, but rather hard because of the overly large hitboxes. The little touch of humor is appreciated. Well done !
Thanks! I'm planing to fix hitboxes a little and tomorrow I think it will be done, because now I can't export my game because of my internet speed ;)
upd: I actually was able to do it right now, only had to change file that starts on the page bruh...
Such a fun game, cool visuals, theme and gameplay. Only flaw is the hitbox is off some how
Funny dialogue and a very cool interpretation of the theme! But having to guess which hole to jump into without any hints, not seeing the deadly salt you fall into before it's to late, and very tight margins for error in general make this game too frustrating to play than it needs to be.
Thanks for the review! It's hard to understand that player doesn't know there's something, since you are the one who made the level tho. I'll try to not make such mistake in the future and give at least some hints
Yeah I know. It's hard to see your own game from the player's point of view. I made my game a little too cryptic for the same reason I think. But we will learn from this and create something a little better next time :)
You had me at a tax-evading dog (sheep?). Some good humour in there, but I'll be honest the hitboxes and specifically trap-laden levels ended up frustrating me too much to finish. Great effort though!
Love the art and humour, very much feels like it could be an old newgrounds game I would've played in the school computer lab as a kid! Cool take on the theme as well! However I will say the hitboxes feel a little off, and the double jump doesn't quite work right, but this kind of adds to that old browser game feel in a way lol. Good work!
Thanks for the review! Yeah, hitboxes are kinda broken, so if it won't break jam rules, I'll try to fix them ;)
Cool game. Challenging too!
A fun little game. Some suggestions for the next jam: Focus on just 1 gameplay aspect! There's not much time, so make all of your efforts super focused on single concept. For example, the top down 2d section probably took some time to build and draw art for, but didn't add to the core of 2d platforming.
Thanks for the advise! We had an idea to travel between scenes in such way but it took some time to make and I was not able to realise what I wanted to. I'll try to focus on one main thing and not small ones next time
