This is actually a great game! Some of the hitboxes were very janky, but somehow that added to the experience. I love the death screen and the sound effects are great!

Developer

Thank you!

I really loved this game! The idea is smart and creative, liked the art style and sounds, and had so much fun playing! I found it a bit hard but that's okay... I also loved how you followed the limitation and theme!

Great entry! Would love to see an updated version soon.

Thank you! I am planning on a post-jam version, mainly to polish it off a bit more (fixing a few bugs) and maybe add another level but I don't know yet.

A really hard game. It's a good concept for the theme. But the player doesn't jump when space is clicked and as the player is a long the it is sometimes hard to jump in tight spaces. Also when I move step-by-step the stick moves up, idk why.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. I seem to have forgotten to add the space bar to the list of jump buttons lol. Not sure what you mean about the step-by-step moving the stick up though, it should just point towards the mouse, which does take a bit to get used to.

It took me a while to get the feel of how the fire stick worked.  Something about when I jump but don't move the mouse, the stick still rotates.  I know that it's trying to point the flame at the mouse, but it's an odd effect.  Like, the game would feel much different on a typical twin stick game controller.

The most important thing though:  It was an interesting use of the theme, and I had fun with the game.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, the stick movement takes a bit of getting used to, didn't even think about what it would be like with a controller but it would be different for sure.

Really good take on the theme keeping the fire away from flammable things. A suggestion for a post jam version would be locking torch rotation. The humor was a great addition. Overall well done. :D

Developer

Thank you! What exactly do you mean by locking torch rotation?

Submitted

Pressing a key to stop the torch from pointing to the mouse.

It's a pretty good concept but definitely falls apart on the execution.  The physics feels really buggy and the player is way too large and sluggish so moving around is annoying, combined with the lose effect hurting my eyes makes it extremely tough, and not in a good way.

I also didn't really understand what platforms were an instant loss and what platforms you can destroy with no issues. I think clearing that up would help the gameplay a lot.

Overall it's quite rough, but I can see it being a fun-but-hard platformer with a bit of work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback.
I agree on the physics being a bit buggy (especially jumping in a small area), the platforms that can be destroyed are supposed to be distinguished by the fact that they are not touching any other wooden objects, and are normally hanging by chains(I was planning on having an animation of them burning away instead of just disappearing, but ran out of time). Personally, I found that the player was actually a bit too fast, although noticed that it can slow down a lot if there is lag.

I really liked it and the checkpoints were definitely a nice way to reduce the difficulty. I thought it played well and was a clever idea of interpreting the theme but was pretty harsh at times.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! That was indeed one of the reasons that I added the checkpoints, although I also liked the fact that they could be skipped for an extra challenge if you wanted to.

Really hard game sometimes, but after all I managed to complite it

Developer

It can be a bit too difficult at parts, but good job for completing it. :)

insanely frustrating game lol. But seriously the idea behind this game was very creative and led to some interesting but infuriating gameplay! Also i really like the art because it reminds me of flash game aesthetics which although some may call low effort i really like it. Also it shows you don't need to draw insanely good art to have a good game!

Developer

Thank you! Yes, it can a bit frustrating at times, which is why I added the checkpoints. In terms of the art style, most of my games are very minimalist because I like the style and am not that good at more detailed art (as well as the limitation preventing more details).

Very cool, very stressful. Really interesting mechanic

Developer

Thank you!

Very clever use of the theme and limitation, very original and fun and nice UI/Design.

good game, and a nice concept too, only thing is that you can cheat by leaving the stick unlit making all of the obstacles do nothing. not sure if you can do that the whole game but I did it for a bit. maybe something (if you wanted to) fix in a future update.

Developer

Thank you!
In terms of the unlit stick, you cannot complete the game without it being lit, as the door at the end will not open, which forces you to go back and light it again.
