Wow, congrats on getting it done in a day as a first-time Bevy user! Personally, I liked that you didn't have to click right on the ball to get it to bounce back up. Got up to four and that was already pretty frantic haha

It's a nice mini-game. It's impressive for a Bevy beginner to put this together in a day, congratulations!

The sounds effects fit the game very nicely. However, I think the difficulty could increase more gradually.

Feels really nice. I'd have played way longer but I try to avoid mouse-only based games to avoid wrist pain. It's also less precise on a trackball (and I'm also quite bad 😁).

My wishes:

  • I should only be able to click on the actual balls, not near it
  • Have a score so I have a goal of beating highscores

I understand your point about clicking on the actual balls. It may seem like a good idea initially, but it dramatically increases the difficulty. That was the first implementation of the game, but I immediately ditched it when I found out that it made things much harder. The game's physics also does not reflect real physics since real physics makes surviving even harder.

I, unfortunately, couldn't create some interface elements for the scoring system, but the Windows version has a command window that tracks the high score if you'd like to see how high you can go. I have seen a maximum score of 55 right now, and my personal best, unfortunately, is just 29...

It feels so nice! The sound effects, the physics, it all works so fluently. It is so impressive you put it together on a day. So nice to see other first time bevy users! :D

I wanted to try Bevy for so long (as a Godot user), and I'm glad I finally had the chance to give it a try. Got a game together in a day for the jam, it is a simple mouse-only game. You can reach the source code via the game page. There aren't fancy graphics or audio, but all assets belong to me.

Do you think you might switch or are you planning on using it just for bevy jams and sticking to Godot?

I liked Bevy a lot. I definitely will continue making my "serious" projects on Godot since Godot provides lots of features that enable me to speed up the production of my projects. I definitely will use Bevy in certain jams, and will continuously check out newer versions though. I heard that Bevy will have an interface in version 0.11, and I am very much looking forward to it.

The biggest problem I had with Bevy was the interface system, even rendering a single button was a lot of work. Despite that, I liked its custom ECS and data-driven approach. I tried to learn it in one day and created Jumpr, but I am thrilled to use it in other projects, especially for mathematical/physical simulations, in the future.

Yeah, Godot is definitely more evolved in terms of its feature set.

If by an interface you meant an editor, then I don't think that's gonna happen in time for .11 - the actual UI system has to be polished enough to allow for that (since the editor itself is gonna be built in bevy I think). As for the UI, I think that's being reworked.

There's  this plugin https://github.com/jakobhellermann/bevy_editor_pls as a crutch before the actual editor comes. It's not amazing, but still quite helpful when inspecting the ECS data.
