Awesome concept and great use of the theme. Some of the levels really were some head scratchers. Also liked the color palette you used.

Nice game. I like the yellow and blue you chose.

Very fun and challenging game, I loved the graphic style. I think a more user-friendly difficulty scale would make things more interesting. Good job!

Very nice concept! I like the puzzles and how you implemented the theme. :)

This game is really fun but its really hard for my small brain tho ahahaha

I love this concept and I was excited to play more, but after I hit the flag at level 4, each time the game made the "level complete" sound but didn't go anywhere, so I felt sort of softlocked there and didn't try again after 3 attempts. Might be because I still had extra steps left? I also had the same graphical fuzziness as Bagie noted on the main page. Great one bit stylization, good music choice, and a fun game that I'd like to see more levels of!

Thanks for playing! I'll be looking into the graphical bug some people have noted, but the level completion isn't dependent on the number of steps. There are only 5 levels, perhaps you reached the end? I didn't really have time to add an end game screen.

Ah I might have hit level 5, I didn't pay as close of attention to what level I was on as I could have. It was the four skeleton room: two on the left side of the river with a bridge, two in the room with the flag opened by a gate button. All that is to say I was definitely eager to play and wanting more, which is what makes a game successful in my book

What I liked:

  • You used the same assets as I did and you animated them when some of them have no animation frames. The way you made the Knight go from its original position to a solid looking attack is really cool.
  • I'm a fan of your color choice. I'm colorblind, so its harder to see the contrast of two colors if the barely close.
  •  Implementing "Death shadows" is pretty cool.

Suggestions:

  • Character movement is a little wild. I think the game could benefit from lowering speed and making it so that the character only moves on keypress or release. Being able to hold down and move until you fail doesn't feel like it fits, especially when the speed was high. Even after realizing that I needed to tap the key, i still moved more than I wanted to.

Overall, I think your game is pretty cool and a great submission to this jam. What you did with the 1-bit pack was pretty cool. Congrats!

The gameplay is fun once you get the hang of it although it took me a little while to figure out the looping. Music was groovy and I like the concept. The blue and yellow are a welcome break from black and white and are easy on the eyes,  overall a good game!
