This is a really clean, complete game, very well executed in all areas! I love the artwork in general and the character design is simple but effective :) Brilliant work!

If you get a chance any feedback on my game would be much appreciated! :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! I'd love it if you left a rating as well!

I have :)

Cool idea of unlocking endings and a good meaning! Graphics could have been done better imo, but not bad for a one week game! :D

Thanks a lot!

Neat little idea, well executed. I like the 'message' of it, too. Weirdly meaningful game, for all its simplicity.

Hi LTGD! I'm super flattered you liked my game, I'm a big fan of your videos on youtube :D. Happy you saw the message behind it, and I hope that the simplicity may have added to the overall experience.

The game feels great to play and the different coloured platforms make it really obvious where you need to go. The simplistic Artstyle has something I don't know what but I spent about 20 playing this game. Good job ^^

Really cool idea! I like exploration in games, and the openness of the level.

Thanks man!

Just played your game!

Really liked the idea that your progress in the game gets displayed by the characters hair turning white and him needing a cane to walk.

The graphics were definitely unique.

I noticed a couple of issues though.

  • The coin pickup sound would stop and restart as soon as you picked up another coin.
  • The jumping felt weird. Being able to completely stop your direction by letting go of the direction keys was weird to me

Overall a nice game :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! I don't like physics based platformers, that's why I made the character have no momentum,  happy you like the art and the hair changes, and the coin pickup sound is a kind of weird bug. Thanks for the feedback!

I liked the game I've given you 4 stars you can try out my game https://itch.io/jam/blackthornprod-game-jam-3/rate/899688 and give some stars and feedback

Nice experience, although I didn't get all endings (yet). I like the way you gave priority to exploration over lots of explanation (how to get endings, what the coins were meant for, what was behind the color coding of the platforms...

Developer

Simplicity is the way to go in my opinion (: Good ,uck on getting the endings!

Okay, I liked the game, and the controls were nice and reliable. But I do have a  main critique of this game: Death. I had died once, so I opened up a stop watch to see how long I had left to live on futures runs, and I had reached 2:50, then died. This was highly aggravating. I feel like death should be an ending, and that you shouldn't have to live for 3 minutes, but that would be a time limit tied to some endings, but instead had to do certain things, like reaching the pink places, to get the endings. I see potential of how you could advance this game, gives of a  cool Reventure vibe.

Thanks a lot for the honest and no-nonsense feedback! As for triggering an ending when the player dies, I personally am not attached to it. It goes a bit against the message I'm trying to give and overall would make the game way too easy in my opinion. Again, thanks very much for the honest review, I'll keep it in mind for future projects :D

Okay.

Where should I start...

This game is decent, but it has several problems that made me not want to finish it.

Firstly, there is no way to quickly restart. LET ME QUICK RESTART. I do not want to jump off a ledge so I can get another try after doing a single thing wrong.

Speaking of jumping off ledges, it's pretty much a gamble. There is no way you can see what's below you. You really just have to gamble. There should be a way to see what's below me. That being either A: Having a bigger camera B: Being able to look down or C: have a freaking minimap. I do not want to have to remember the timing of each platform to not die.

Now, I was trying to get the "4 pink areas ending". ( I'm assuming this is an ending, but unless someone tells me, I'll never know. ). This meant I had to see the freaking cutscenes over and over and over and over each time I die. Let me skip the cutscenes!

Additionally, your game does not have coyote jump, which made platforming a lot harder and made most deaths feel incredibly cheap.

Besides that, music would be nice and a SFX for when you bounce too.

This is where I put an ending/score on the other "reviews". However, not this time. Pretty much all the deaths felt frustrating, unfair, and cheap due to the reasons I just talked about.

it does remind me a bit of game that you’ve said you’ve been inspired by. I love the graphics and I love the gameplay! I would like to be able to replay the endings because it would be so much fun like fork said. Overall really good work!

Thanks for the feedback, super appreciated!

Cool game! Love the ageing effect and one really wants to find all the endings!

Developer

Thanks! Which endings did you get?

Submitted(+1)

I unlocked 3 endings but never could I replay them in the main menu. Other than that solid good work!

Developer

Thats a really good idea for a mechanic that I didn't think of!A replay feature would be so good haha. Glad you liked it!

That's a really sweet and existential way to interpret the theme, I love it! Kinda reminded me of One Chance!

The minimalistic but stylish art led to some really gorgeous moments in there and the platforming made it really smooth to get to the all the different beautifull views!

However the music did get kinda annoying after a while, and as you need to spend some time to complete all endings it kina ruins the mood. I even turned the sound off completley at the end. But except for that small part, it was great! Well done!!! :D

Developer

Thanks so much!

It reminds of that game that BlackThornProd made for a game jam, I think it was called Life is Snot

Developer

Yeah, it was slightly inspired by it, although the mechanics and story are quite different. Hope you still liked it!

Submitted(+1)

Yeah it was really cool!

Really nice game! I really like the concept, the art and music is very good, and I think switching the sprite to show time is a very nice touch. A very solid game. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for the review! I thought the sprite changing was a good idea as well. I also appreciate it if you rated it!

Submitted(+1)

i realy liked the game , but having a checkpoint/dialogue(certain phrases that get triggred if you do something) would realy make it a lot better!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I really appreciate the review and rating, dialogue is an interesting idea, I'll keep it in mind for future projects!
