Ranked from 9 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does your game fit the theme?
It focuses on the contrast between Alfie’s mental state before the exam (the calm) and the looming pressure and anxiety he feels (the storm). The player’s task to collect books and avoid the "monsters in his head".

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
No, I used outside resources for assets and code.

That was a fun little game. Like Mario getting ready for an exam. Top notch artwork and great retro music style. This is fun. Congrats on your entry!

Visually impressive with nice music! However, the gameplay and level design feel repetitive, especially for a short game. You definitely have the tools to expand it further, and considering it's your first game jam, it's quite commendable!

Visually it's very good. Music is nice. Game play and level design lacks a lot. It's simple, but the big problem is that it is repetitive. And considering how short the game is this is bad. You have the tools to make more with the game, but considering it is your first game jam it is actually impressive.

Yeah I wanted to do something new and different but didn't have time to, so I just did a simple platformer.
Thanks for the review!

Really awesome! I liked the message at the end a lot. Good work!

Love that you put out something that is actually quite easily playable all the way through, I think it was a bit on the basic side but for a first / second game that's more than fine and this shows you can definitely start expanding the experimentation. Good job!

The name itself pulled me in, and the message at the end was a perfect send-off.

You put together a great little project here. I saw you mention that this is your second game, so I'm blown away by how cohesive & enjoyable of a product you managed to get together in a week, outside assets or no.

My only criticisms are exceedingly minor. Firstly, I think you'd benefit from having the jumping bricks stand out from the background a bit more. I found myself getting a little lost a few times when I couldn't clearly see where I needed to be jumping. Second, I think it'd be great if your enemies had a more unified theme, especially if that theme had to do with school in some way. Maybe they're teachers, janitors, the principal, or a bully.

Like I said, small things. Overall I think you did a great job.

Well done! Keep making games!

Developer

Okay I will keep that in mind for next time!
Thanks so much for playing my game!

In terms of gameplay this was very very basic, which isn't a bad thing! You took the very limited game mechanics and gave the player a unique way to deal with enemies by giving the player unique platforming designed per enemy.

I would love to see you pursue new mechanics and some more sound effects next time around.

I love your take on the theme, it's actually very similar to ours in Spiral. The idea of the game and story being the calm before the storm in lieu of incorporating it into gameplay.

Developer

Yeah for sure! I wish I could do more but I did not have time to make something new so I did something basic.
Thanks so much for the review!
