In what way does your game fit the theme?
You have to rewind shurikens back to throw them again

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
all sprites, music, sound effects and most of the code were made by us during the jam

anyone an idea why i only see an black screen when playing on a mac?

Developer

Weird. We weren't able to test out the game on mac since we don't have any but I thought Unity got us covered here.

You can ping me on discord and we will try to sort the problem out: ChaosTheLeg#0972

Thought it was really fun and addictive. Throwing shurikens is just so satisfying lol.

Music and sound effects were spot on. The levels and characters were really nice.

Where i had to go was sometimes a bit confusing. I even came at the end and went back down, not noticing the cat there lol. Really fun.

Cool game :) Good job!

Please try out my submission and let me know what you think :)

We tried to make the level feel as intuitive as possible but you can never reach perfection here. The ending was a bit rushed, maybe that's why you got confused. And it is supposed to be a dog, but whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for the review, I'll check out your game in a bit

Really great game! Love the gameplay & feeling :D

My positive points:

  • Gameplay in terms of movement & shurikens feel amazing
  • The sound effects are great

My improvement points:

  • Making shurikens hurt on the way of rewinding, that'd be awesome!
  • The art style although looks quite nice in the whole, would make the game feel much better if worked on more
  • Making the dash more impactful and the distance improved

Overall really amazing game in terms of feeling & theme, great work! :)

I'd appreciate if you play and rate our game too! :)

Thanks for the comment. We've already recieved many suggestions of making shurikens damage on rewind and if project gets continued, we will try to explore this concept.

I'll try out your game, looks fun

i like the idea and the grphics :D

I like this game a lot. I think if the shuriken does damage when coming back will be cool. Also, think power-ups like shuriken can pierce through enemies would be a nice feature if you plan on adding after the jam.

Developer

We definitely plan on adding more post-jam! We actually had code written for a powerup that'd increase your maximum health but we never ended up using it! Never considered the piercing powerup though, that's a great idea! Thanks!

As for shuriken damaging enemies during rewind, we actually added that post-game jam already! Sorry that you weren't able to get to try it though!

WOW AMAZING! This game was so much fun and I can't believe you made something this good within one week. I felt like a ninja lmao. Great sound and art too!

A great game! It's really fun to play and it feels like a polished product. The fact that this was made in a week is impressive. Animations a cool as well and the pixel art is amazing!

Please rate my game as well: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/724377

The art are so great! Loved the mechanics. Ninja is my weak point haha

Great job!

Very cool game! It made so much fun and enjoyed it really!

very good game, had so much fun

amazing game love the art. my issue is there is no consequence to rush through the enemies.

Developer

Yeah we might add a scoring system post-jam! That way you're encouraged to hunt down all the enemies, even the ones in the dead-ends!

Thanks for your feedback! :)

Hi, i've just played and rated your game. It's pretty good. I really like the music. I have just one thing. Maybe it could be better, if the returning shuriken damage the enemys too. Well done, really good game.

Developer

I kinda got the same idea along with some other features we can add, but only after the end of the jam, maybe in post mortem version(if we get to making it) we'll change some stuff and add that.

Thanks for playing, glad you liked the game!

Nice game! I guess my only problem is that wall jumps are a bit weird to me at least, but that's more like a nitpick considering how cool this game is!

Developer

Wall jumps have been sitting in out bug list for quite some time... In the end we just haven't found a decent solution that we can do given the time limit. If we continue the development, the movement we probably get rewritten and we will see what we can do about wall jumps and some other features. Thanks for the feedback!

Game was so good. And i think i finished the game cuz it said: "stage clear". I think you can add more levels but it is not necessary more level for jam.

Things I liked, you actually made a very smooth feeling game and I loved sliding around on the walls and throwing shurikins everywhere. The mechanic with calling back the shurikans took a bit to understand but afterwords I really enjoyed flying them around. I also felt like the sound and effects you had livened up the atmosphere and there are enough checkpoints strewn about to make the game not too too hard.

Things I didn't like, for some reason it felt very hard to dodge the enemy fire? While a simple solution on my end is to just go slower it feels weird to give the player all these tools to go fast with and then not reward them for doing so. In addition, the instant kill of the spikes felt too harsh and would act as a very sudden reset for a player who may have been enjoying just zooming through.

Overall though, I got to say I really have enjoyed your game and I hope you make many more!

Developer (2 edits)

Sorry to hear that the difficulty was a bit too tough!

I understand what you mean, you want to feel like an unstoppable machine. So stopping to dodge probably kills that feeling. On the bright side, they only go in a straight line!

As for the spikes being one hit kills, unfortunately that was the best way for us to make sure the player doesn't wall jump out of bounds. It also added for some very interesting level design in the final tower. Having to climb up vertically and jumping between walls to avoid the spikes was also a great way to add a bigger sense of danger and fun to the game. Thank you for your feedback on this matter though! It might be possible for a compromise somewhere, but that's something I'll have to discuss with the rest of the team if we continue to work on this post-jam!

Thanks for playing!

Really fun and original, complete it all and it was very challenging

Developer

I'm glad you find it fun too! We weren't sure how hard to make the game, so I'm happy to hear that the difficulty was challenging but complete-able!

Thanks for playing!
