The main draw of this is definitely the extremely novel format of it, having it run on a gameboy emulator is some seriously cool stuff and I'm 100% for it, especially with the artwork matching that sort of aesthetic perfectly. I'll say that the actual gameplay needed some tweaks though, for one, the game drops you directly into an enemy at the start without fail and you need to immediately jump or else you'll die and have to reset, which ended up getting a bit annoying. I also think that the game would speed up far too quickly, reaching insane speeds almost impossible to dodge within about 10-15 seconds. This combined with a couple of enemy patterns either being impossible or at least considerably more precise than anything else to dodge, I definitely think that that aspect of it needs some more refinement to take this from a really awesome idea into a game that matches this extremely unique way of submission. I also didn't really think that the theme was conveyed clearly in the game itself and think that the idea of getting faster when you become closer together is actually a bit like the antithesis of the theme, since the togetherness is actually making it more difficult. That said, I still thought this was really neat and was very glad to have checked it out :)

If you have the time I'd really appreciate it if you checked out my game as well.

Developer

Thanks! This is the first game I made for the gameboy so hopefully they'll get better from now on!

yeah lots of people are telling me that I accidentally made the level too hard, if I could go back I would fix it.

I was going to make a game that fit the theme better but I couldn't get it to work and the deadline was creeping up so I made something quickly, this happens to me a lot during game jams and I've got to try and not rush things.

thanks for the feedback.

ill go check out your game :)

It's cool that this can run on a gameboy! I like the cute art style!

Developer

Thanks! I based the character art on Pokemon.

So if I understand correctly, this game run on a game boy emulator? That is awesome and very impressive for a game jam. I also really like the pixel art, very cute.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thank you! Your game looks good as well!

What a shame that I don´t have a flash card with my old GameBoy Color, would love to try it there :) But overall this is really nice game and if it is actually playable on gameBoy ... wow! Great job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thanks! I also don't have a flashcard but it works in an emulator very well.

edit: I just tested it on my ds with the gameyob emulator and it plays perfectly

I like the art style, well done!

Developer

Thanks!

I like the art style! But I keep dying right at the start. The character design and game is working really good, and I like the idea of the game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! yeah I should have fixed that...

Submitted(+1)

Nice idea!

We had troubles getting past the instant death at the start though

Developer

Thanks! I should have fixed that as most people are saying that.

Had issues playing game. But design is good.

Developer

thanks, yeah the game was pretty rushed and I guess I got used to the weird things happening in the game.

Interesting idea. Also I like this retro style

Developer

thanks!

Had kind of trouble finding the theme but its definitely well made! Had to get past the near insta death at the start though

Developer(+1)

thanks! yeah im getting a lot of feedback saying that, if I could go back I would change it.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

haha random little game. Just that insta death on starting is startling (as others have mentioned). Also, is the map kind of randomised every time? One of the runs I got to 1236 but I could not get that far again. I think I was just lucky on how the map was made for that run.

Anyway, keep it up :)

Developer

hi, yeah the map is random, I wanted it to spawn random enemies but I could only get it to shift the original enemies and wrap them to the start of the screen.

Submitted(+1)

Cool game! It was kinda frustrating at first because of the stuff that kills you right when spawning, but besides that the art is pretty good! It would be nice to have some sounds fx and music tho. Keep up the good work! Also if you don't mind check out my game too!

Developer

thanks, yeah I should have changed that... There is sound effects in the downloadable version. I'll go check out your game.

The implementation of the theme isn't clear. It took me a while to escape insta death. Tutorial would've helped. Keep improving the emulator and maybe make it mobile friendly to reach more users,

Developer

thanks for the feedback.

I had to use an emulator I found online and it is pretty old so it doesn't play any of my sound effects.

I was going to make a 2 player game but I didn't have the time as I decided to join the jam about 3 days in.

yeah if I could I would change the first bit.

thanks again for the feedback :)

i like the gameboy style

Developer

Thanks!

Start of the level is annoying, makes you immediately jump before you can assess what's going on.

Doesn't fit the theme "Stronger together" at all.

But I like the gameboy style, and the graphics.

Developer(+1)

yeah I kind of rushed the game and forgot about the theme, thanks for the feedback though :)
