In what way does your game fit the theme?
I made up an acronym for CHAOS:

Can Hippos Achieve Outer Space??

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
everything on my own except for the music track (credits in page description)

Hey~

This game is sweet! I love the concept and the progression system, gives me serious learn to fly vibes.

One suggestion I have is that I didn't really understand the point of bottles off of the initial descriptions - I thought they might give me some sort of boost but now I understand they act as a sort of shield. I think maybe more text or something could clarify this, but I might just have misunderstood.

I thought the theme was really cool, I was immediately hooked by the title and thought it was really well executed. :)

Thanks for checking it out!

Yeah, all the collector upgrades let you turn an obstacle in the game into a collectible one, two, or three times in a run. That was my core design concept . In most games like this, it's about avoiding/defeating enemies and collecting power-ups, so what if you had the power to turn the enemies into collectibles? The mechanic ended up playing out in such a way that the collectibles ended up acting as pseudo-health, but I really liked the idea of still needing to avoid early enemies so you could save the 'hit' for harder sections. I really want to expand upon that idea in a game with more time.

Anyway, I was hoping that the player would jump from the text saying "you can catch dragons for their scales" to "collect dragon fire" and understand that everything could be a collectible. Being more explicit for a jam game should have been a priority though!

Very cool concept and design . The Upgrade system is too good for a game jam game.

The difficulty is standard, the music is good and the graphics are not too bad .

You have my highest rating so far!!

Developer

Thank you for such high compliments <3 That means a lot!

I'm glad you enjoyed the upgrade system. That was the thing I was hoping would make it stand out. It was a lot more work than I thought it would be, but I learned a ton.

Cool idea. The  upgrade system is well done.

Thanks for checking it out! I appreciate it :)

first game that gave 5starts for music, it made the game

Developer

Thanks, I really appreciate it! Please check out and support the artist (link in the description on the itch page). I can't take credit for it, but they've got a ton of really good stuff for game jams!

Amazing game, the idea of the word CHAOS is pure genius. Everything works perfectly, i'm no fan of the pixel art but that's just me. The upgrade mechanic is really good also and it helps a lot.

Thanks for checking it out :)

I'm a fiend for incremental games, so I was trying to capture a bit of that exponential progression feel from those types of games. It worked with the coins and the altitude upgrades, but those are a little slow to get to. I hope you enjoyed yourself!

Very cool idea, gives me nostalgia of the type of games you'd play in highschool on the computers when the teacher would allow you too . The game is very nicely made although i do feel having the fuel decrease slower when you dont press the up button and faster when you do would be a good idea and having the rocket feel more like a rocket and not so light would be a nice touch, the altitude also i think should be attached to the rockets actual height and not just a number going up because I went down a few times and the altitude still went up.

This game overall is a very cool, the idea was very fun and very original, the artstyle was consistent and suited the overall aesthetic of the game matched with the background music very well and a solid UI to top it off. Good work!

Wow, such in-depth feedback! I appreciate your time, truly :)

Yeah, having more fuel spent by pressing up (and having altitude increase tied to movement) were both left on the cuttingroom floor. The flat altitude generation I did during prototype worked so I deprioritized refining it. Thanks for checking it out and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!

nice progression in the game :). Was a little cofused for a while because i was being a bad player and not reading things :P, then got enough fuel and got past the dragons, was able to collect more of them, and their fire, met the clouds :D. Got to about 1300 ft in the end :). Nicely done! Especially as you also did the art as well! lots to bring together there in a short amount of time! And refreshing take on the theme :), good to have a game that works the theme in a dirrerent way. Well done!

Thanks for checking it out! I'm happy to have been in another jam with you and can't wait to check out your submission.

I would have loved to add a dialogue or tutorial system to give the player a little more guidance early to help call out certain things like "remember to read" lol. I hope you enjoyed yourself! :)

This exceeded my expectations of a game called Can Hippos Achieve outer space I spent all week waiting for this and I was not disappointed. I dont have much feedback to give you because I LOVED everything. thank you for making my life so much better.

Developer

and thank you for sharing your thoughts. this type of comment is the reason I make games :)

The game is pretty fun, and I really love how you interpreted the theme & abbreviated CHAOS

Nice game, Graphics require some polishing and the BG music gets kinda repetative but other then that Great job

Developer

Thanks for checking it out Golden!

I wish my regular music guy (check out my games One More Lap! and Slimebound) had had the time this week to do a new track for me. I had to find something online and unfortunately didn't give it the time and love it deserved. And I ended up using a lot of placeholder art for the final game. I know my colors needed some tweaking. Hope you enjoyed! :)

I did enjoy it^^

Very fun game! The controls are a bit sloppy and the size of the pixels is inconsistent. very good spritework and animations, had a lot of fun.

NO UR SLOPPY AND INCONSISTENT

Jk, thanks for checking it out! Yeah, I ended up using different pixel scaling for different things and didn't think redoing the art was worth the time. I'm glad you had fun :)

Really awesome submission! Had a lot of fun and the upgrades are a nice touch. I wish there was some more variety in the enemies or their patterns and a bit more health starting out but it was serviceable. Nice work!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! I would have loved to have more time for more enemies. I coded in a space dragon, but ended up incorrectly programming in the spawner for it so it's not actually in the game :(
