Hah, that's great :P, we'll make a Lighting programmer of you yet! :)

oh the balancing is not great at all :P. Needs a lot more work on what the survivors can do as well. But thanks for playing, and I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Really glad you enjoyed the story sections :)

Great game, so much involved for a weeks worth of building!

Very impressive

Every time a survivor is sent out to a task, they consume an extra food.

Food gathering, building supplies gathering and survivor searching all had a random chance on them (though not a big range, just enough to varry the numbers a bit).
Im glad you enjoyed playing it! I didn't get chance to balance it any more, left it a bit to easy, but then most jokes just want one play through anyway in a game jam :),  so that works for me :D

Thanks!
Totally plenty of game dev stuff to improve this :), yeah some nice sound effects with the decisions would be great.
Glad you enjoyed the story! thanks for playing

Awesome, thanks for playing! :)

The game concept for this is brilliant. Though it took me a bit to get all of it :P.  But once I got the bit about building a new base, it came together well. Loved the planning out of where to set it, and to grow protection zones more.

I assume however the levels are procedurally made? As they differ each time after death. If this, then this accounts for some of them being (from what I can tell) unwinable. Less about strategy and more about luck.
If you continue this game (and please do), lay out the levels by hand. a bit more. It'll allow for more opportunity to improve and win over a level, and be able to learn and grow from previous failures on a level.

Really great game design though, really enjoyed playing!

Nice day for fishing, huh huh.
I hope you're a Viva La dirt League fan and get the reference from Epic NPC man :P

Nice game of 2 halves. Time spend preparing/building up through fishing. And then using that time in the Zones against the storm.

Could have just done with a bit more UI clarity in both areas, on the health bar. Seeing how each fish increased things in prep would have been great.

But great job on brining this together in a week! well done! :)

Thanks very much for your feedback! much appreciated! :)

Great game. I started to figure out some tricks to help, like leaving boxes around. But I still couldn't keep on top of the shelves being stacked when it got to 10 needed.
But I always made sure it was mopped and repaired :D

Maybe could do with an idea of what "level" I'm on, or my progression overall to complete the game (or if you progress it, the chapter etc or whatever).

Nice job, looks like a lot of work on this was done in the short amount of time, so great job!

Nice work.

I struggled sometimes differentiating the background building from the platform buildings. Sometimes those red tops were for landing on, and others not. That'd be a good thing to clear up a little I feel.

Otherwise, great game :)

Thanks, that's good to hear :)
and yeah, it did get a little self indulgent :P. Not as good for game content.

Thanks for the feedback

Nice art style, dialogue, atmosphere and easy to get to grips gameplay.

Could have done with a bit more fuel to start things off with, (I was SOOOoo close to the Harbour when it ran out :P). That or more fishing spots a bit closer.

My first trip out, I didn't realize you had to click and drag the items to your inventory. So got back to the shop and couldn't figure out why I didn't have anything to sell :P. I assume that's done because the inventory is a set size, and you may choose not to collect what you get from fishing. But that's probably a much further down the road issue.

Really nice game though, and brought together well!

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah you're totally right, text based games like this in a jam isn't usually wise :P. Bit of a bold decision for me :D, but got me to explore doing something different in the time I had.
totally right about the balance, it's far to easy :P. I'm looking into how some other similier ish genre games work, and seeing if that's something I want to continue to explore.

Thanks for playing and rating!

Thanks for the review., I really appreciate the feedback!
I hadn't consciously engage with that thought about summarizing, kind of did it by instinct. But it's great to have you break it down a bit, and it'll be the kind of thing I hang on to and think about in the future.

Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed playing!

Lots of different elements and game styles brought together in one.

Great job

Oh for sure. But with the little time I had this week, I had to cut back on that sort of thing.

maybe if I spent less time on the story/plot stuff,... :P

We're all a bit Marvin :P.

Struggled with the controls a bit, I think you should make some YouTube video guides showing off your skills in making some shelters yourself :)

well done!

heh, thanks. Yeah it was really unbalanced and to easy :P. I got to invested in creating the story elements :) (which no one is being bothered to read anyway :P)

2 games in one :).

I got worried in the mining section as I didn't realize you could double./tripple/ infinite jump :P to get out of the hole I was digging myself into.

controlling the worm was more tricky then expected, but I finally got the hang of it.

great job :)

I've just posted my rating and comment on yours :)

Great concept and style.

Got a little repetitive. I managed as far as needing 21 coins a turn. what level is the ending on?
slight glitch in where you loop back to the other side of the map.

Nice job though, I enjoyed the lighting effects as well and the set up. Well done for making this in a week

A lot of nice work, with just a couple of things of polish and bugs to improve things for next time.

I wasn't sure what the power ups were for, but it was the only sound to work in the game.
I didn't know or notice the change element until the end, but I never needed to, the ship firing was  fine for everything. Needed to mix in a challenge to make me want to change, and to make it more obvious.

Bit relative in the cycle to, needed a difficulty ramp and extra levels.

However, I know what time constraints can be like in game jams. So most of these points may well have just been out of scope for you in the time you had, so great job on putting it together in a week! Well done!

Hi all.

So I thought I did one thing foolishly, which was to make a game for this jam last week, while being super busy at work :P. But turns out I did two things, which was to make a game which involved a bit more reading to enjoy the narrative element, while leaving the gameplay a bit to unbalance and easy :P.

However, if you don't mind (or dare I say it, enjoy) reading some story longish a bit of loose gameplay, then please check out my game, leave a comment and I'll do my best to play yours in return (webGL games only, I'm a heathen playing on a Mac over here :P).

If you hate a game that tries to make you read,... well then maybe give mine a skip :P Sorry :D

Oh good :). Hope you got some enjoyment from the story element at least :P

I Just finished playing and rating yours as it happens :P

Nice idea having the tree with the different abilities and enchantments. And being able to reset and do different combos.

However, having to mix and max and change them mid battle is tricky. When a new foe appears, I need a few seconds to work out what format to set up. When the shield is in play, I needed to change back and forth a few times, taking hits while I do this.

Also, no idea how I finished with no acorns :P.

I did however enjoy the game. It was unique in its gameplay, and the art and Music was nicely matched to the mood.

Great job bringing this together in a week.

Yeah the game balancing wasn't handled well I'm afraid.
By the story you should know if you lost or won :P, but  maybe it wasn't clear enough.
Thanks for playing though

Took me a couple of goes to get the hang of the attack function.

Nice having different attacks (basic and the big mana fireball). Little bit of work to do on the UI to that.

I totally need more meditates :P. Give me an easy mode please! :D

Well done on crafting this in the week. It's a fun game to play with a nice take on the time, well done!

Great going. Got me playing very quickly with the on screen guide.
Nice unique mechanic with the wind blowing you back, adding to extra complexity.

Very quick die and respawn set up, which helped a lot with continuing through the levels.
I even figured out your cunning drop then jump trick to get past one of the barriers,

But the slidey platforms was where my skills at these games met their end :P. Managed the first 2, but the next one was to much for me :D

Thanks for making this game! It was enjoyable to play! Well done

I hope you do stick with it and expand. But really, what you've done is more than enough for a game jam entry! :)

Good job. I had considered doing a tower defense game to, as I enjoy them, but I didn't think I'd have the time this week. So great to play yours instead :).
Great tutorial to explain the game quickly (so many games miss this concept in game jams).
Nice range of towers doing different things.  And nice "interest" mechanic, which got me being to greedy at times :P.
Possible could have done with a bit of info about the next wave being displayed, but if you continue this game, then that's something for the future :).

Great job with it all, I enjoyed playing!

Fab game to be made in a week! :) had a great feel to the controls.

Nice art style as well, matched with the music and SFX,

Plenty to be expanded upon if you wished, but considering the jam time constraints, a commendable achievement in itself, well done!

Thanks for playing. Much appreciated :).

Totally understanding reading in games isn't for a lot of people :P.  Bit of a niche game style perhaps.

Nice game with multiple modes within, great job. Good choice for music as well, match the style.

Minor points.
Could do with a note to use the spacebar when fishing (had to go back to your page to find the controls for that).
Maybe a compass? :) something to help with navigation back to port (I got a little lost in the storm, but I'm sure that's part of the fun :P).
And as others have said, maybe a bit of balance with money, Repairing the boat cost to much (perhaps I could spend what I have to repair it as much as I could, rather then the whole thing?)

Great job though on the whole game in a week! Well done!

ahhh! I now try the in game full screen button FIRST, and that works.
Going to the itch fullscreen meant the in game one didn't work.
Issues resolved :)

This is the size of the window I get on Safari and Firefox.
I click fullscreen button bottom right (the classic Itch one) it just takes my window bar away at the top.
I come to settings in get and click here, nothing changes (when I exit settings the music/SFX changes happen, but nothing to full screen).
Not sure why it's just me, maybe its a Mac thing :D

I look forward to a replay of it when you update! :)

nice work on this. Excellent range of enemies.
I was a bit disappointed by the crossbow :P. Heavy hit, but very slow, suppose that's the trade off. I had some bugs with it where it didn't fire at all (while holding mouse, or by clicking) off and on until I died.
My suggestion would be to ramp up the pace of things to 11! :).
More and faster enemies, much quicker fire rate.

But I did enjoy it! nice set up!
