Nice experiment, it's not easy to control but it's not meant to be. I'm not sure how different from Asteroïds it controls, I would need to play it right now to compare, but I prefer side scroller levels anyway so the results is fun to play.

Thanks for sharing.

Super interesting movement system! Feels a little bit like controlling the ship in Outer Wilds, but in 2D. It does make the precision needed to dodge bulets very difficult, but the shield is forgiving enough that you don't need to dodge too much. I really liked the gradual introduction of gameplay mechanics, though I would have liked to see a little more variety in the level design. Also, I am not sure if it is just me, but I did not get any sound or music, was that missing or just on my end? Overall, great work, I would be really interested in playing more!

Good use of a tutorial. Movement was very tricky.

It is nice idea! Also it is helpful that you made tutorial. Good job!

Thanks for the feedback !

Great built-in tutorial. Asteroids style controls were a bit hard to get used to but it’s kind of fun. Some indication you’re charging the shield would be good too since I wasn’t sure it was working til it just popped up.

Nice job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback ! I'll try to add more visual feedback next time as it is missing in multiple place, but I didn't thought of the time for charging the shield indeed.

The controls are really slippery. It's hard to play unity you get used to it. But it's a cool concept. Good luck dude!

Developer

Thanks, I'll try to enhance the controls then.

things I like

  • nice graphics
  • momentum based movement
  • progressive introduction of mechanics

things I would change

  • move shoot to keyboard (mouse really isn’t used for anything)
  • allow holding down shoot to keep firing
Developer

Thanks !

This seems like good point where I could improve the feeling of the shoot, which I didn't spend a lot of time. I'm glad you enjoyed the movement!

I like the art and the shield reloading idea is cool! the controls seem like they're supposed to be slippery but maybe too slippery for me, maybe would get used to it with more time

Developer

Thanks for the comment !

I think the controls are very slippery because I played with them on a large area without obstacle, and not with less space to move, so that might explain the way they feel. Also I wanted the player to either use the brake or do a half turn and accelerate again to slow down, but it's not very useful in a bullet hell I guess.

This is a wonderful concept! It feels more methodical than a typical bullet hell. Maybe if the walls weren’t hurting you, only bullets - something like Omega Race - would capture that frenetic feel. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Thanks ! I think the methodical feel is due to the terrible way of aiming for the shooting. The walls hurt you because I don't have any way to prevent the player from going outside the map X)
I think the movement would be better if you where chasing an ennemy than having static enemy. For another game jam.

Thanks anyway for the feedback.
