I really like the premise, though it feels very unforgiving in its current state.

I was constantly trying to have enough energy to dodge and only occasionally got a chance to shoot. When I did get to shoot, the bullets often shot far from the target making them wasted and leading to another recovery period.

Adding some sound effects would go a long way as well.

Enjoyed the need to manage how much stamina I was using vs how much I could charge without getting hit! Became a nice back and forth with the enemy.

With more dev time I'm sure things like sfx, visual feedback when getting hit/landing hits, etc were in mind - the current build is already fun though and I can see the Mega Man inspiration as this felt like a boss fight where you can identify patterns and work around them. Awesome job!

Having to balance your stamina between moving and shooting is a really nice idea. I think moving should use a bit less stamina because once you get low just moving to dodge bullets uses basically everything you charged and it’s easy to get stuck just dodging and charging. Nice work!

Developer

yeah, I'll make movement use less stamina

Interesting concept. I like that the charge is used up in more than one way (shooting, walking) because it made me really think about when I needed to be moving or when I really thought I'd be able to land some shots. That said, I don't know that the boss fight really seemed designed with these mechanics in mind; there didn't seem to be good times to stop and charge, and some of the charging in general could probably use some balance. But I really do love the concept. I could see it going somewhere if you have plans to work on this more!

I think it's a great idea but it's a bit tricky to avoid the enemies bullets with them so close. I think if they were further away it would make it feel a bit more fair.

A lot of aspects of this game have the beginings of something that feels cool, and the concept itself is interesting. It feels a bit awkward to use energy for everything including movement (seems to use at a very similar rate to the charging up), but the begining of a cool game is there.

Developer

yeah, I ought to turn down the energy usage for a lot of stuff

It was fun to run around and shoot toward the baddie, but I often found myself having to halt everything I'm doing to charge up every few seconds.
