  • I had a lot of fun playing this game, I played until I got the elder staff and started bopping everyone haha. The soundtrack is beautifully composed and I like the handdrawn world. The combat isn't new but combined with the movement between cities and the resource management I really enjoyed it! I think there could have been some more things to do in the game/world and the UI sometimes got a bit compressed with many items. All of the text being on letters was super charming and this was a great game! --- It's very cool that lore was all in letters! Soundtrack and concept was very impressive as well, Iliked the mix of resource management and small quests. On my screen there were some problems with UI text being unreadable because of overlap. It also took me quite a while to figure out how to zoom/move around/see other cities. --- 33/40

This was a very neat idea, especially for a week-long game jam!

I love the theme and the music - it definitely helped set up the fun concept of the narrative! I feel like mail delivery is an under-utilized concept in media and you clearly had a lot of fun with it.

I thought that the combat system definitely added more content to this particular submission, but I think that if you wanted to expand it, you could actually remove it and emphasize other traits of being a courier! As other comments stated, using more of your wits, making hard decisions, maybe leaning more into the visual novel or text adventure territory could be kind of neat?

I also wish that there had been some kind of a basic "How-To" or tutorial screen to help me get adjusted to the mechanics since I ended up wandering around for a few minutes without a letter to deliver lol. But I LOVE how traveling over certain terrain impacts your speed, sleep levels, etc. That was very very neat. It's no big deal since this is a game jam submission, but I also would've loved to see some more art for the monsters/player/etc.

Overall this was incredibly cool and I can definitely see it becoming fleshed out in the near future, although it was honestly very fun in the current stage!

A really cool open-world game. The overworld and openness remind more of Mount and Blade. Being a courier isn't often a subject of a game but this one proves that it's a fun concept to play with. I would say rather than a combat system a morality or espionage one would be a bit more fun, choosing if you want to give the person a letter or using info from a letter to backstab the senders would be fun to explore. Either way, great work! Keep it up!

It's a fun concept, has a lot of D&D vibes to it. I feel like I'm playing the start of what could develop into more complex RPG.  Some of the encounters could use some balancing. On permadeath ran into a young dragon and adult dragon in about the first couple of minutes and died. I wish there was some more art to the game, I understand that may not be this teams forte which is understandable. Some more info on the heads up display would be nice, I wish I was aware of going into fights with one energy. An end condition of sorts would be really nice too. I understand if the game is supposed to be an endless loop but eventually I wish there were larger objectives to be completed. Overall, well done, it would be cool to see where this goes.

This is an extremely novel concept! Communicating lore entirely through letters is ingenious, and I found myself drawn into the world as I encountered more monsters and read more letters. If there is an overarching narrative communicated by this letters, I think I missed it, but I would love to see the same concept expanded into a larger story someday. Perhaps your letters and your ability to deliver them have a bearing on what happens. In addition, the point-pool combat system is a creative and interesting way to reward game knowledge and allow for mid-battle strategizing.

Ultimately, I think the game would benefit greatly from giving the player more feedback. For a good while, I wasn't quite sure what to do or how to do it, though I eventually managed to figure out how to move my character and travel around the map. Even something as simple as a particle effect when climbing difficult terrain could make a difference. Though I liked the pensive, mechanical score, I think additional audio cues would also help in this department. Even a "How to Play" on your itch.io page would be awesome--I'm worried I missed some major mechanics! Regardless, nice work!

Thank you! I did plan for a lot more in-depth narrative stuff but I didn't have enough time to write it. I'd love to make a more polished version of this game with much more content someday. Stuff like... quest chains, character advancement, dungeons, in game calendar with holidays, combat abilities, inventory weight,  skill checks, points of interest, vehicles, art for monsters and cities. Delivering secret letters from powerful patrons. Delivering battle plans to the front line. Delivering invitations to events that can be attended. Maybe my scope was a bit ambitious for a one week jam lol. Sorry about the poor tutorialization, it doesn't sound like you missed any mechanics though.
