There's something that I really like about a game designed to depict the autumn traditions from other countries -- somehow it puts fresh eyes/perspective on the traditions. It may just be a coincidence, but the fact that you made your game about pumpkin *growing* -- a part of the process that I think most people who grew up with the jack-o-lantern tradition have never done and maybe never even thought about -- feels like a fresh idea. It would also have been interesting to see a Brazilian harvest tradition game (Festa Junina?)! I played all the games here and everything functioned smoothly, and the artwork was very crisp and clean and nicely done. The colors are great and you did a nice job on making a calm autumn atmosphere. Nice work!
I liked the memory game the most. I had hard time with the dias de los muertos game, but it's probably me. In the farming game I was confused because there is a hierarchy of actions that have to be performed in the right order (for example killing the insects first and water the plant after). Is this part of the design? Normally I would expect to be possible to perform actions in any order. Especially since I can't water 5 plants because i first have to kill insects in the sixth.
I appreciated the research for the autumn traditions and the fact that the theme has been respected.
Loved the game's unique stickers and collection feature, but some mini games felt a bit slow-paced. The art and autumn festival exploration were stunning!
Thanks for playing!! :))
Very pretty game, I love the concept behind the stickers and collection aspect. I didn't find the mini games to be that much fun and I couldn't bring myself to actually play them more than once, except the match 2 game and even that was kind of annoying to play because of the amount of time I had to wait between selecting cards. I think it would be nice if you could click to flip them back over at will. The growing pumpkins game was a fun idea but as soon as I saw I had to grow 10 per set I was put off since I only had 6 slots, felt like a very slow paced micro management game. Finally the sugar skulls game seemed like it went on way too long. I thought I was getting to decorate them any way I wanted and I just had to make any permutation I wanted, I also thought I was going to be dragging the parts onto it, I was wrong about both of those things but I kind of think that might be more cozy but less directed I suppose.
Overall good job on this game.
Our goal was to make simple and straightfoward games that could be played by anyone. I agree with you that 10 pumpkins is a bit too much!
About the flipping back on will, it would add too much constraints to gameplay, and could be a lot more confusing to more casual players, but I see your point!
Unfortunately dragging parts to face was a bit harder to develop and would take too much time!
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing! :)
Oh about the flipping back at will, I am not sure what you mean. I don't think it adds extra constraints too much so that's why I don't think we are thinking of the same thing. Think of it like you would really play the game in real life physically. If you flip over two cards, you choose when to flip them back over manually. The idea being once you flip any card over, you can't flip it back without picking a pair card. Once you've selected a pair, you just click anywhere to flip both back over to continue picking your next set, in this way the experience is smoother instead of having to wait for a fixed amount of time to be able to flip the next set. It also kind of emulates what it is like physically playing a match 2 game. You could even keep the timer that flips them back over automatically like you have but then they can still click to set that timer to 0 if they want given they've already memorized the given cards.
Totally get the time constraints, great job all around.
Great job on the art and I love the concept of exploring autumn festivals from around the world!
It was a little hard to know when I could click (IE location of click in pumpkin, can't click until after the checkmark animation completes in match) and the game definitely could use some more sound effects to help ground animations and player actions, but all of that is more polish than anything.
Nicely done!
Thanks for playing! :)
Unfortunately we ran out of time, and couldn't add sound effects, but next time we sure will :))
Thanks for the kind words and the suggestion!
We put our efforts into clearing bugs and working on visuals but we didn't set aside time to dedicate ourselves to the sound experience :c
Next time we will be more prepared o/
This game is very perfect. I can't even imagine how much work it must have taken to make these minigames.
Congratulations, the game is very good and welcoming, as well as being visually beautiful.
Such a well made game! I loved the relaxing vibe when doing all the minigame, and the ideas to make it about festivities worldwide is amazing. I can see a lot of polished and hardwork being put into this!! Amazing work :D
Thank you, Finn!
We had a good time planning the game and discovering the festivities ourselves, thanks for coming by ♥
Cool minigames, especially the day of the dead one. The pumpkin one felt a little too long, but it was still enjoyable once I figured out I needed to align the actual cursor itself to the pumpkin. We almost did a mid-autumn festival minigame in ours too, but we ran out of time! It's nice to have found a game that included it. Really enjoyed the art here, very polished!
Thanks for playing!
The Mid-Autumn was the last one and there was almost no time, so we had to simplify the idea to make it fit
I'm happy that you enjoyed the art ^^
I wouldn't do the pumpkin one again, but the other two mini games are great. The memory one needs some sort of penalty for not getting it correct but the day of the dead one is fantastic. That could have been an entire game for the game jam on its own, really well done. I especially love how you incorporated the different autumn holidays from around the world. Great job!
Thanks for playing and leaving a comment! The Day of the Dead is also my favorite minigame <3
We changed the pumpkin minigame goal just before the deadline (in the screenshot the goal was still 5 pumpkins) but we'll fix that after the evaluation period.
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed learning with us about other cultures ^^
This could be a very fun way to learn about the wonderful festivities around the world and communities! I enjoyed reading about them once I got all the stamps!
I wish there could be other things to do to get them, though. The pumpkin one is quite tedious to do 10 times everytime. But I understand that this is for a game jam and there is not much time to implement many gameplay. So I still enjoyed it! ♥ —Jay
Thank you for the kind words!
After the evaluation, we will make the pumpkin minigame more fun and less "grinding". We put 10 pumpkins as the goal due to the time to prepare more minigames as you've mentioned.
Me and my friend are thrilled that you enjoyed the game <3
