This is pretty cool. I think there's a lot of places you could go with this from here.

Am I correct in assuming travelling and seed placing is all that's implemented so far? Want to make sure I'm not missing any features.

Slater's got the right idea with claiming planets I think

Developer

Thanks Cereal! I agree, still trying to decide if I should go all in on the simulation route, or casual gameplay with exploration and minor building mechanics...guess we'll see.

And yes, you are correct. Currently only travel and seeding.

This definitely raised the curiosity on me, I wasn't to sure what the end goal was but planting my seeds in other solar systems felt like I was achieving something nevertheless.

Are the seeds global counters of other players? If so then that is brilliant, I found a system far out with no seeds and would really like to claim this... I think allowing people to claim systems by planting the most seeds would add another dynamic to this game.

Al this being said, to achieve this UI wizardry in the short period of the jam is really well done, hats of to you good person 🙂

Hey Slater, thanks for the kind words. Yeah the seeds use Global Counters. And I also like the idea of being able to claim a system, I got it technically kind of working however I knew it'd completely bug out if one tried to claim and another player on another server tried to claim before it updated that it was already taken. Came up with some workarounds for it, just needs more testing.

I will say, getting the UI to render properly and optimizing so movement was smooth took like 90% of the Jam time :P

This is pretty! Can't say I understand the mechanics at all though, tbh!

Thanks ephemerald :), and haha no fault to you. I spend most of the Jam time on fighting Crayta's inconsistencies with standard JS/CSS that I didn't have time to work on the mechanics, so it's more of just exploration at the moment. The plan was to have it where once players have seeded a planet enough it would unlock a different panel to begin colonization efforts (i.e. growing population, establishing infrastructure, etc.).

word :) out of curiosity I had sent myself out to position like 500x500, it might be nice to move a bit faster the farther you're trying to travel or something.

also just fyi with the js/css stuff... at least on my 21:9 monitor the end of the planet list cuts off (ie for Sol can only see part of Neptune and no *Pluto). Not that there's that many of us who don't use a 16:9 screen...

Yeah I toyed with the idea of having it based on distance, but didn't like how it felt. Originally you could travel to far point for a big boost in speed then set a new travel point mid journey to get to closer positions faster. I didn't want spreading out to be so easy at the start.

And thanks for the info about how it looks on 21:9. I'll look into fixing that for ya :)
