A true classic. Loved this entry a lot. The style was great, combat was straightforward, the dungeon crawling was enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the level with the invisible monsters that you would kill by sound, very nice touch.

I didn't get to the end because the game crashed for me at one point during the level with the invisible monsters so that was a bit sad. The only confusing thing was the fact that the floor/ceiling moved even when you moved in an invalid direction which was a bit strange sometimes.

All in all, fantastic work, very detailed, very enjoyable!

Pretty cool!  I love the visual style of this.  I had a little trouble telling when I'm moving - seems the floor changes even if I strafe into a wall (when kept doing as I thought I was pressing the "turn" key), which gets confusing ^_^.  Items often appeared closer than they were, I thought I should be able to pick them up, but had to walk a step forward.

I maybe made it near the end?  I got attacked from behind by the purplely-tentacley guy, and by the time I turned around I had no HP left, so game over ^_^.

Great atmosphere and art, well done!

Oh my god, a paper doll, weapon mannequin...I don´t remember the term, but how cool is that?! Also a well working inventory. On top of that great snappy movement and very well drawn graphics. The combat may be a bit simple, but that is to be expected for such a nice throwback to the 80/90s. I really like this entry. But for the love of god, do not make me install anything during a jam. Just give me a zip file with a portable exe file in it.

This is a real throwback to old school dungeon crawlers. Even the splat damage is nostalgic. I wish there was a minimap just due to how everything looks samey which is fine for this old school style, but my modern sensibilities look for an auto map. It seems really well done, I never encountered any bugs. Great job!

Good game, I didn't have time to play it to the end, but from what I've seen so far it deserves a decent score.

You even incorporated some 'place rock on the platform' puzzles, which is always nice to see in the game of this genre

I wish there would be a minimap, bc the level is a labirinth, but it's not a requirement

it's good / 5

My first couple of runs weren't great, but I had one that was sick and I got like 450 attack or something and had heaps of food, but I died to something in the pressure plate puzzle room (I think I was just a bit smooth brained), I was trying to let my sanity run out cause I was ready to face the boss but I died instead, probably more of a me issue I think though.

The graphics and sound are really good, hearing the enemy sound cues is a really nice touch and adds to the creepy ambiance of the ruined dungeon. The inventory system worked flawlessly and just the general retro dungeon crawler vibe is super strong. All the sprite work was also really nice, this game is just nice to look at.

Usually I get a bit confused with instant step, but I didn't have much trouble here at all and the combat is really really juicy. I think this game probably nails that retro dungeon crawler vibe more than any other ones I've played.

Well done on a nicely polished and well put together entry!

I have ascended !

I would not have figured out you need to lose your sanity to reach the boss so I'm happy you put the indication in the game page.

The game is great, yet the best part of it was easily figuring out that the way I kept dying was putting a key into my hand. I'm curious now, was it a joke or a bug?

I love the game, I especially love how pleasant to control and snappy it is, I like that combat is very fast and lethal, my problem with this kind of traditional real-time games can be that sometimes it can take long, here it never does. The controls and presentation are perfect, the game sounds and looks great, the art is both very good and very consistent. I really like that despite some randomized placement of items, which fits the gameplay loop and replaying this small game a couple of times to eventually win, you still have some good handcrafted layouts here. The invisible fiends are really cool, losing your equipment when you get hit hard is cool too. The power of the boss is right on point and I love that, I can't claim enough how much that I needed to retry a couple of times to finally win the game increased my enjoyment.

There's a rare case of crash.

Overall this is a great entry that I had ton of fun playing, congratulations.

Was running around aimlessly for a while not knowing what to do, seeing that floors are repeating. Thought that I need to do something with broccoli I found! Figured how to summon the boss from tips on the page... got nuked in two seconds haha. Not sure exactly if that was gear issue or i needed to eat something fast to prevent it (had 90 def).

It was a really solid game! A lot of items (wish there would be 'inspect', but right click works too), nice monster designs (and sound hints about where they are), cool idea with color change for different floors.

I enjoyed this game a lot!

Hey! I played 5 rounds, sadly they always ended with a bug where I stepped on a pressure plate, heard a slising and then the game breaking with

Maybe the message helps ^^

However, I enjoyed the rest of the game very much, else I would not have played it 5 times ^^.

Theme:

It kind of fits the Endless theme for me :P but it definitely is at least crawling through ancient ruins.

What I liked:

  1. The variety of items and how they made me stronger. I also liked that the starting equipment is kind of random, which makes the runs different.
  2. The enemy types. The glorious hidden enemy is the best here. Its a classic and often joked to be a good enemy if you do not have the time to draw more enemies :) but I like how you have audible hints and also you feel them when they are blocking you, not to mention the stepping stones that give their position away. I encountered only 3 types of enemies, but that did not impact the fun I had while playing. On the opposite, I kind of got familiar with the enemies and the strategies to tackle them. I liked that a lot.
  3. The reusing of map parts. After 4 runs, I knew exactly where the loot was and where I need to step to clear a level. I understand that for some people the levels were hard to trace without a map, but I actually liked it that way and one could pretty much navigate all the time with the: "keep a wall to your right" rule. Not always! But mostly :)
  4. The 3D sounds. They gave good hints of where the enemies are and what kind of enemies there are. Nice immersion.

What I would wish for:

  • A better way to see the abilities of items. I loved the intuitive way, the shields, armor, boot and helmet showed which one is better than the other, but I had problems seeing this on the first look with belts and sometimes weapons. Is a hammer better than an axe? I had to check the stats for that which was kind of hard in some situations with dogs. Same goes for the rings. After the 4th game, I knew the color code, but I am not sure if the silver ring actually does nothing to the stats or if I just missed something. A mouse over in the inventory with a small text would help a lot!
  • Not mirroring the image horizontally when the character does not actually move. It gives the impression that the char moves which made it sometimes hard to see if an invisible enemy is in front of me or not.
  • To reach the end ^^

I liked the game a lot and played it for about 30 min+. Keep up the good work and thanks again for having submitted this!

Ah sorry about that. There is a bug in the listen carefulky level when the secret pressure plate untriggers.... you can run past the level to avoid this bug or you can unlock the door followeing the west wall put something on the plate and dont remove it... tis a shame that was my fav level too! You can also summon the final boss at any other point in the game, after solving the dead weight secret is a good place

Great retro feel! Loved the art.

great pixel art, very old school - good job!

I really liked this game. You nailed the old-school aesthetic for sure. Swapping color when reaching new floors was very smart. Puzzles like the stone plate one were really nice. I would like to know the stats for the gear, I don't know which to equip so I equip the latest one I found.

you can right-click yourself to see any stat changes

I'm not an aficionado on the classics in the genre, but this certainly had the vibe.

The art is great and the gameplay was really solid. I echo what the others have said in that I found navigation really tricky and got lost a fair amount and only progressed by brute forcing. I'm sure if I was more sensible and drew a map as I went it would be much easier! Great job.

Solid submission! Graphics and gameplay works well. There is a bit hard to navigate, I guess you have to draw a map while playing to not get lost. It got this issue where the floor changes when you walk into a wall, which disrupts your brain somehow and makes it really confusing whats happening, if you sort that out navigation and orientation will become easier.

Game looks visually great. A very good represantation of 90's Dungeon Crawlers. Monster design, inventory everything looks beautiful. Navigation around the map is impossible for me without a map. Corridors look all the same, and instantanous movement make it worse for me. I'm completely lost in the maze. Though i have to say that i'm not a hardcore Dungeon Crawler player so it's probably my noobness. Nevertheless i think it's a solid entry for the jam. Cheers!
