A good game indeed, It would been nice to see more enviromental change, like a nuclear explosion in the background, but is understandable since its obvius you put more time in the game mechanics, also it would be nice if at the end you added a sound like the player was returning to the shore or a explosion like he was involved in one
Totally! It would've been nice to have more going in the background
I really like the simple and clean presentation. The gameplay was basic but spinning the reel was oddly satisfying. I would have liked to see the challenge ramp up later and some additional mechanics. The tonal shift was great with the radio intermissions and more disturbing fish you catch. Very on theme! Well done.
Thanks! We def would've liked to add more to the challenge when we were working on it haha. I'm glad the spinning was satisfying because that's what I was hoping players would feel!
I think you all did a great job! I played the browser version, so my comments will be based on that.
I wasn't sure how the game connected to the game jam theme at the start, but seeing things change visually and musically, along with the radio dialogue explaining it all was a really neat idea, and I think you incorporated the 'Doomsday' theme well overall. As for the visuals, I think they're really well done. The sprites are simple, but effective, and everything is well defined. Not only that, the music and sound effects do a lot to enhance the player experience and the game's narrative. On a related note, I appreciate the inclusion of a fish compendium, not only giving fish facts but also providing further context to the character's thoughts.
Going onto some small critiques, the game feels kind of slow. I don't know if I could've sped it up, but there's a bit too much downtime between fish catches and the radio text being displayed. On another note, the game is short enough that the gameplay stays fun throughout, but it didn't feel like things got much harder near the end. Finally, while the game is pretty technically solid, the cooler icon seems a bit buggy. On my first attempt I closed the cooler window, but I couldn't seem to open it again. On my second attempt, I couldn't close the cooler, and the game progressed like normal despite the cooler UI still being present. I don't know if the download version has these issues, but the browser version did for me.
With all that said though, you all did an awesome job! Good work!
Thank you so much for the in-depth feedback!! Yeah I've been having some trouble with the cooler on the web version, not sure what's causing it unfortunately
heyy we changed the cooler behavior at the very end, and tbh we had so many tiny adjustments all over the game that I guess we didn't test it properly
thanks for your feedback tho! appreciate it <3
Very nice game, my first impression was "How can a fishing game be apocalyptic?", and later I understood it very well, it was funny. I liked the art style, mechanically well polished quite frankly. Congrats!
Thank you so much! :D
thanks for your feedback!
would've been funnier if it just ended out of nowhere with a boooom hah
Visuals and audio are great. The story is good, although I feel like there's a slight dissonance. A nuclear apocalypse happens suddenly, but the fish slowly increase in creepiness. Perhaps the apocalypse could have been an eldritch horror or something more insidious to match the pace of the game. The gameplay is well implemented, I would suggest two things: less spinning and some sort of progress meter of how close you are to catching the fish. Really good stuff all in all, thank you for your feedback video!
A progress meter sounds great! Thanks for the feedback :D
Also after thinking about it, the eldritch horror idea would've been so much cooler if we thought of it earlier and implemented it hahah, it's a great idea
thanks for your feedback :D
yea, the story was born on the fly: we had the core idea of how it would start and end (basically "you fish and the world is ending as you progress"
looking back, I think it would've been a better idea to make it all normal fishes, until the big boom, at least it would've been funny and unexpected hah
but overall I'm pretty happy how it turned out :D
good game, like the artstyle and compelling story not much to say... it's well polish.
thank you :D really glad to hear!
