I like the choose your own adventure story aspect of the game. The UI could use more polish. The way it is represented it looks like the green circle is the player health and the red the enemy health. I didn't realize the green actually represented energy at first. It is a nice touch having the player's portrait change as you take more damage. The combat itself needs some work. The pacing is WAY too slow. Also having to reload a gun after each shot and waste a whole turn is tedious. I found the melee weapons to be much more effective. I died my first run but was able to clear my second run. It was a solid use of the theme!
I wasn't expecting a 'Choose Your Own Adventure/Turn-Based RPG' hybrid, so that was a nice surprise. I think the game is pretty good overall. I only did one playthrough, so I don't know how different the routes are, but this is something you could expand on if you want. It could have some good replayability too if you diversify options further. On another note, I think the presentation is decent as well. I'm sure the art assets had to be rushed a bit since this is a week-long game jam and all, but for what you have, I think you got the atmosphere across pretty well.
Going onto some small critiques, the turns seem a bit slow. I know they're supposed to give you time to read things, but I think having a 'next' button so that you don't have to wait for the auto-scroll may be a good addition. Also, it doesn't appear that there's any consequences to picking up weapons or health packs instead of going straight to the next objective? Maybe there is, and I just didn't notice, but the game doesn't really give me any strong indication of that. If I'm wrong, I apologize, but I think it's something you may want to revisit if you ever expand on the game.
Overall, you did a good job! Great work!
The story is well oriented to how they are, the turn-based is fine as a base mechanic, but it could be more interesting, like having unique things in the combat. However, shows that you put effort into the art of the game and that is very nice. Nice job!
thank's a lot for the feedback
The setting and story is very flavourful. I like the Doom-style avatar too. The combat could do with more variation - most of the time you can only fight. The time between turns is quite long.
yeah i had it a 10 second at first but lower it to 6 second, although this was due to the fact that later fight had biger dialoge. but thank'
Hey! I made a video of this jam where I gave feedback to the games including yours! Hope it helps! :D
