Oh dear god I loved the concept!

A lot of accurate feedbacks have already been made yet here is mine.

- I don't know if it's a bug or if I didn't understand the assignment, but on the third level, I put all the sheeps in one box and it didn't close. At that point I felt stuck. A visual feedback would have been nice.

- I love the art style, yet I would try to add a bit of ambiant occlusion.

- I faced the problem of having a sheep in a corner and wasn't able to make it move away.

- The first approach was really good. The UI is super clear (loved the font used btw) and you understand right away what the game is about.

- Simple yet efficient screen transitions

- Simple controls

- Nice sound effects but I regret the silence while the opening music of the game was so cool!

Really nice job! There is a huge fun potential in your game.

Thanks for the excellent and actionable feedback. I've spent some time on the weekend fixing the "sheep in the corner" issue, and I've also adjusted the ambient occlusion settings (the trees have much more depth now).

Aiming to resume the daily releases from tomorrow. Once I do these changes will be available.

I am going through all submissions to make all developers aware of an important Google form I've made

I'm joining the IQ folks to help organize smaller events in between the main FQ event in order to help prevent us from getting too many games in main events. Right now, I have a planned structure for these events but I would like to hear from everyone who was in this event in order to tune things better. The survey is a bit long, but it covers as much as I could think of. If you can take the time to do the survey by June 1st, I would immensely appreciate it!

You can find the form here: https://forms.gle/9NE2rAxGMPssPwrK9

Too Many Sheep https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1821178810

Sheep herding itself is good. Sheep AI seems to work as intended. I love the bark.

Suggestions to let the player control when to load the level and when to move to next message on the level. Some players will not read fast enough and not understand the objective as there is no way to view that information after it's gone.

Controls/UI: Game breaking bug that disables the car from moving once you touch the river on world map. You also saw the bug with the teleporting levels so I don't have to address that.

Audio: Add sound everywhere! For the most part, if you have a visual cue of a change being made, there should be an audio cue too. Soft ambient music on main menu will help the game feel alive right from the start.

Developer

Thank you, I really enjoyed watching you play the game on your stream yesterday. This feedback is excellent, the skipping and recapping tutorials especially :)

A good foundation for a fun game and I really loved the sheep facts! But right now is lacking some stuff here and there.

Presentation: art style is good and coherent, I really like the dog and sheep. Dog customization is fun too, can't wait to see the final version.

Controls: overall they are good, the dog is responsive and fun to move around. The car is a bit problematic, as the overworld has some wonky colliders.

Audio: the main offender for this entry, the lack of music and audio feedback is severely undermining the experience, but nothing that cannot be fixed.

Player feedback: the game is really lacking feedback for the player, especially when completing a level or clicking on a button.

Tiny bugs: if you press space too many times during a level loading you can end up with a <null> sheep fact, and also the level timer will start while still on the black screen loading screen.

Overall the game is fun but needs some more polish to really pop.

Developer

thanks for taking the time to review the game, and for giving me valuable feedback. That bug with hitting space should now be fixed.

I’m on track to having the other pieces of feedback action by the end of the week 😊

I got stuck in the most unusual of places, on the car map, right between the river and the trees. lol~~~

Witness that glory, maybe an escape key for accidents like this with players would be a good idea.

Overall a really fun game, the sheeps behaviors feel pretty lively, love all the sheep facts. Part of my cozy player self would love a mode where the sheeps are herded with ease instead of always focused on time attack to progress with the game. Lovely game keep up the good work.

Developer

thanks for playing, sorry about getting stuck on the map. I’ll look into that ASAP. Love the idea of an easy cozy mode!

Thanks so much for playing and streaming the game, it made my day 😊🐑

I loved this and think it has a lot of great potential. Just a couple things here:

  • The sheep can get caught in the corner of the map and difficult to navigate them out of there.
  • Giving the dog a sprint/run would be nice. He has a sneak, normal run, and maybe a sprint?
  • The only SE is the dog barking. No music, no other sounds, no ambient/environmental sounds. Maybe add something with the car driving around the map, birds chirping, wind blowing, and some soft relaxing music. That would go along way. It was very quiet.

AND NOW... THE GOOD:

  • The artwork is super cute, and I love the bright vivid colors of each map!
  • Really like how you go from level to level by driving around the countryside.
  • Could present some fun and unique puzzles/challenges.
  • You get to customize your DOG! YES!! Will you be adding more unlockable hats and glasses eventually?j
  • Love the fun facts about sheep before each level.

IDEAS:

  • Add some hidden pathes and prizes around the map. Maybe more dog customization items, etc.
  • Earning coins or some sort of currency for completing levels would be fun... and then give players the ability to drive up to shops/stalls... and purchase cosmetics, new types of dogs, different looks for your car, power ups, etc.
  • Give some sheep different looks. Maybe some have bells that jingle. Some are missing wool, etc. Not needed but that might give the sheep a bit more variety.

However; I really enjoyed your game! Love what you have so far!!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for taking the time to play the game. Your feedback is fantastic. That stuck-in-the-corner problem, I'm going to jump on that right away as it's come up a couple of times.

I love all your ideas on the audio. It's something I've barely touched in the game so far - I think it might be limited to barks at the moment :)

Your suggestions on where to go next are on track with where I'm considering going.

Submitted(+1)

It's a really cute game, but a little too easy, and you can get softlocked easily by making the sheeps go near corners. There was also no music? but idk if that was a bug.

Talking about bugs, the game wass VERY buggy, the menus constantly didn't work and sometimes the sheep wouldn't react.

If the bugs were fixed, and more harder levels were added, I would definitely check it again.

All in all, good experience

Developer

I'm sorry about the technical issues with the game, especially the menus. Are you able to let me know which menus? I've got half a feeling of where the problems lie....

Submitted(+1)

The menus after completing a level sometimes dont work, also going to titlesreen sometimes doesnt sork

The game had a really fun introduction, but it seemed to hit a difficulty spike quite rapidly. As a person that deals with anger management issues, that had a major impact on my personal experience.

The first two levels went without a problem, I got 3 stars in both of them. However, after crossing the bridge I was only ever able to get a single star, and none on level 6. I'm not sure if the requirements were too high, if my skill was not good enough, or if the sheep were too difficult to control.

On that note, the sheep felt pretty erratic. It's hard to make them turn where you want them to, even when you're right on their side. Barking often just made things worse, scattering the herd all over the place, and making the sheep run faster than you. Even going slow was not helping enough.

Small gates were a massive hurdle, pun intended. Having two sheep clear the gap and one get stuck on the fence was a very common problem. There was no easy way to make the stray sheep turn around and try going through the gate again, and it would often scare the other two sheep into a bad position. Perhaps the gates need to be wider, or come later in the game.

One thing that would really improve the experience is to add a "Restart" button. Right now there's no way out of a level outside of completing it. It makes it frustrating when you're trying to get a star you missed, but you already messed up too much. I didn't make it past level 7 because of it.

I noticed a strange performance bug when I replayed level 6. The game seemed to lag quite noticeably. However, when I finished rounding up the sheep the lag vanished. It returned when I started level 7. If I had to guess, perhaps there was a memory leak with the sheep or the dog?

The few sounds I herd were nice and fitting, the menu car was fun despite controlling a little odd, and I liked the art style. The Sheep Facts were also an awesome touch. Now I know there's over 1000 different sheep, and they all have their own accents!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for taking the time to play that game. Given your feedback, I'll fine-tune the sheep controls and adjust some of the expectations on the levels. I massively appreciate your feedback to help my game improve.

Developer(+1)

I've made my first adjustment following your feedback. The sheep should now feel more manoeuvrable when they're operating as a flock 😊

Developer(+1)

Thanks for raising the slow-down issue, I hadn't seen it when playing, but now looking at the debugging tools it seems like I've got a problem just like you suspected, thanks for this I'll have it fixed up today.

Developer(+1)

Memory leak should now be fixed.

This was fun! I liked that I could customize the dog in various ways, and having a bark was fun too. The first stage was relatively easy, but I couldn't get any stars on the second stage, sadly, so I didn't unlock the third stage (I think). Overall, I had fun! The animations were nice and smooth and cute, love the art style!

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to review. I’m sorry the 2nd stage didn’t go well. I’ve updated it today to make it a more gentle introduction

Hi folks, I'm excited to be part of Feedback Quest 4! The game is still in development so your feedback is very important to me in making sure the game can be the best that it can be.
