Nice work, great atmosphere :), had a little issue with mouse sensitivity but that's a unity thing that I don't remember how to fix :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! I think I should have set a slider for the mouse sensitivity since many are facing problems with it.

Your visuals are good. It definitely looks like a creepy street. The terrifying music certainly fit well too.

I hope this comment doesn't come off as too harsh, I just want to offer constructive criticism and strictly my opinion. Speaking of which, let me preface my comment by saying I really don't like horror games. My husband and I both jumped in our chairs when the "man" popped up the first time. That's the point, I know, but we don't like fearing a literal heart attack.

Trying to put my anti-horror feelings aside, it was sort of interesting... a few things kind of ruined it a bit for me though. I really would have liked to be able to jump. The mouse movement was incredibly sensitive and the smallest movements sent my screen flying around. It made it really hard to look at/play and even when I tried to move infinitesimally small to avoid that, it was near impossible. The number of stars collected doesn't start over again after you die. Not sure if that was intentional? it makes it kind of easy to just die repeatedly and just get the first star or two over and over again.  It feels like you would want to force the player to explore your whole world and collect 8 different stars. Also, when near the star, I didn't know what to do. It was hard to see the text on the bottom that said to left click it. I almost didn't see it because it was so incredibly teeny tiny. And really far down (maybe just because I have a large monitor...? Or perhaps it would be even worse on a smaller monitor... idk.) Sometimes I would die even when not looing at the man. If I looked at the ground etc near him I would still die. Also, I wouldn't always die if I looked at him. If he was far enough away I could just stare right at him and nothing would happen.  You're not the only one doing a "golden rule of X" interpretation of the theme. But I don't get it. I don't understand that translation of the theme. (not just you, everyone who did. ) So to me, this isn't really a good fit with the theme.

It is very terrifying, which I am sure is what you were going for, so well done there! The vignette is super cool. I love the extra little touch it gives the game.

Hey there! Your huge comment made me jump in my chair too! Anyways jokes aside,  I really appreciate your words!

I would like to address the problems you have mentioned.

To begin with jumping, horror games generally restrict you from jumping to make you feel even more powerless.

I am very much aware of every single issue you have faced. The "not dying when looking from a far distance" was intentional, so that you could sometimes take a glance at him (and possibly get more creeped out).

But "dying even when looking at the ground",  "the stars not resetting after you die",  "the tiny text" (it's because of me not properly setting up the text for different sizes of monitors),  "sensitivity", are all mistakes on my part, and I was running out of time and energy, but still wanted to submit something.

Since I wasted my first day trying to figure out how to implement the theme (it was not clicking for me), the next day I just had to make something, and I also took my 2nd dose of vaccine. So I just went ahead and made this game. And I agree with you, even I don't get how the theme translates in this game. I just challenged myself in my first ever game jam, learned a ton.  And by the next jam, I'll come way more stronger. But you really did dissect my game to the knitty gritties, which I really like, and thanks again for the constructive criticism and feedback! I understand you don't like horror games, and people with heart problems should definitely stay away! But horror games are what I do, and scaring the crap out of people is my highest goal! :)

I haven't played your game yet, but I will definitely play it. All the best!

making a game in 48 hours is an accomplishment no matter what :) i thought maybe the inability to jump was on purpose... But i just wanted to be able to get them stars quicker lol i just wanted to let you know the little things i noticed so you can fix 'em up if you wanted to. I'm sure most people are already aware of things they wanna fix, it is just nice to know someone's paying attention and not just playing a game for 5 seconds and giving a flowery review ;p of course there will be things to "point out" .... We only had 48 hours! LOL Good job getting a game together. It was a cool idea (theme be damned hahaha) and yeah... It waa creepy gettting a good look at him :O

Wow this one was genuinely creepy!  The background audio was perfect for making you feel uneasy and on edge. The dog barks even caught my dogs attention and he barked back haha.  Definitely captured the horror genre feel here, nicely done.

HAha the dog part was funny! Thanks a lot!

I didn't expect a horror game in this jam! I was scared so I looked at the floor for the whole game and I managed to win! Great game:)

I'm glad to hear that! Means a lot!

The sound effects when you die are great!

The mouse sensitivity was a little too high, but overall this is a solid horror game.  Great work!

Developer

Thanks a lot, friend!

hey on mac build it says 'it is damaged and should be moved to bin?' do you know how to fix this?

Developer

I couldn't get to test it on mac. Probably it's broken because this is the first time I made a build for mac. Did you try it on a windows device?

Well there goes my plans of sleeping tonight!

Developer

Glad you can't sleep now! (In a good way!) Didn't realize the AI would be so difficult to implement, and it doesn't behave the way I intended at all in the build, but thanks a lot for playing!
