For your first game, this is incredibly good. I mean this jam was my first game as well, and this is way more complete. What did you learn from this game jam?

That Making A game is not so easy also dont make your bullets fast

Hey, well done! This is a very good effort for a first game, especially one made in a relatively short time. You have a very solid basis for a top-down shooter here, and that's a reason to be proud.

Others have already mentioned the dodgy collision detection with the shots. I think the problem is that the bullets are moving too quickly, so they end up skipping "past" the enemy hitboxes. You could make the bullets' hitboxes much larger, make their movement slower, or increase your project's physics FPS. There's other workarounds you can use (e. g. with raycasting) but that's a little more code.

THANK YOU for telling me i wasted a whole day trying to fix that issue and the only thing was the bullet speed

Congratulation for finishing your first game!!! I would say this is a very good start, and believe me, you will be much more better from now. And if you just started, game jam I think is a very right place to go as your first step, 'cause you'll learn a lot in here. Try a few more jam to learn about the tools you're using, making more little games and you will improve a lot in no time. And the fact you can make it in just 1 week shows that you're actually very potential in becoming an game dev yourself.

About the game:

- You can try to make the bullet after collide with the enemy can be disappeared, or maybe a health bar to show how much health does the enemy have left. This way, the player will have more understanding and get a more instant feedback from the game to see what's going on. If you don't know how to do so, Google is always there for help, and don't hesitate to do so.

- About the art, you can always get free assets from the internet so next time you can do so if you are currently lack of time.

- Good music!!! Niceeee

- I really like the gameplay, and like I said above, more of the instant feedback will make it better to play.

- I don't think this fit the theme well, but overall, it's fun, and that's what matters, right 😉

Keep it going, and I think you will be very good very soon.

The art is intentionally squares to keep it simple

This was a fun submission! I loved the shadow effect you had in the game world. I am not sure what the squares were, or why they were trying to attack me, but I enjoyed fending them off. Your sounds were really well done in this game too as well as the menu and level selection had a great style to them!

Only think I found difficult was the actual act of shooting the squares. I couldn't determine what the hit box was and found a lot of my bullets going right through the squares without doing damage. However, it still was a fun game to play. Great job!

I knew that the bullets were Going through the enemy’s I wasted a whole day trying to fix them making the bullets hit boxes big and small but it was just not working so I had no choice but to not fix it I am still trying to fix it and the enemy’s were trying to stop you from taking the book

  • Use of Theme - 2
    • I think if recovery wasn't in the name of the game i wouldn't be able to figure out the connection between the gameplay and the theme of the jam.
  • Gameplay - 4
    • The gameplay is clean and simple. The only thing i would change is the combat. I think a health bar above the enemies would be a good feature to add because i couldnt understand how many bullets it took to kill one enemy, sometimes it was loads of them sometimes it was just 1 .
  • Creativity - 2
    • Not much to comment here. It's just a simple top down shooter. I appreciate the fog of war mechanic, and the increasing enemy hp. But other than that it just feels like a lot of the same for a month long game jam. Could have added more mechanics.
  • Art - 2
    • The art is also very simple, just squares and colors. Not much to comment on. The book image also just felt slapped on there, it doesnt match the rest of the game.
  • Sound - 3
    • A bgm and a shooting sound, which didnt really match the vibe of the game. But it's okay.

If this was your first game, then I say congratulations. It was simple but functional and had multiple stages.

I always like to give constructive feedback when I can so here are some points I noted:

1. I think what I liked best was the simple visual design with the lighting effect. It would have been even better if: the enemies cast shadows as well, the enemies could not be seen if they were in the shadows so they could sneak up on you.

2. It seemed the hit detection was buggy as the bullets passed through the enemies and sometimes they took 1 shot and sometimes they took 5 shoots to take 1 health/colour off them. I would also probably have made the shooting hold to fire rather than press.

Overall, I'd say be proud
