Team Astral Pirates

The concept of a deck based fighting game is very unique, fun and more tactical than some of the other submissions, and is a fun take on combat. However, this game moves further away from the 'Fighting Game' genre, which is probably defined more by real time reactive game play, whereas Deck Duel Dojo has the player submit a lineup of 3 cards before the game begins simply hoping that they picked better than the opponent..

The animations are very smooth, and the art style has a lot of charm. It would be nice to see the animated player models move together as they clash, to add to the believably of this fight. A slight improvement could be seeing the cards physically be played so the player better understands that their move is happening or what their enemy played.

  • Pros :
  • easy to play once you understand
  •  the nice art style reminds me of the dojo club penguin game
  • smooth animations
  • I also like the customizable deck feature.

Cons:

  • No tutorial so a little time to actually understand the game.
  • you could add more detail to your main fighting characters, especially with the hit animations make them bold
  • Pretty good, although it does get quite repetitive after a while which is to be expected with one single track.
  • Balance Changes are needed

Main improvements

  • A tutorial
  • Better attack animations with more visual effects
  • another soundtrack

I really like the card system of the game, it's a different style from what is usually thought in a fighting game, however it still contains the elements of a fighting game which is great!
Though some improvements could be added like, a higher quality model for the characters. A arrow to point at what card is being used in combat since it's confusing on what is doing what and when.

Some features that would be really cool to see is an energy cost. Since there's numbers at the top of the cards i assumed you had planned this but, using certain cards can then  make it so other cards aren't useable, like using 2 kicks wouldn't allow you to use a block on the 3rd slot.
Of course deck building could also be pretty cool!

The art style, animation, and  gameplay mechanics are very good. Furthermore, the cards inside the game are balanced and work well together. Also the game has a clear objective and feels original. However, when I played it the first few times I didn’t realize there was a second level to the game because it takes you back to the menu screen without telling you. Also, the game itself is not the brawler game we were asked to create for the game jam.

I know it's not my game but, we weren't told to make a brawler game, we were told to make a fighting game, and this can be considered a fighting game since there's punching and health, it's just a different method of activating those punches and kicks rather than buttons.

cool concept executed decently. Visuals on the cards and background looks great. Could do with more depth in mechanics and cards because at the moment it feels like you should just try and do as much damage as possible. Also animation could be more representative of the cards you're using, as the buff cards throw a punch which doesn't make sense.

Very fun game. Good layer of strategy where you can use some cards to buff your attacks, as well as conditions such as 2 punches in a row doing more damage. Larger selection of cards and a deck builder could be a very cool future addition

Reminds me slightly of Slay the Spire, but still unique and a lot of fun! The only request I have is for more card options! :D
