This Game deserves more credit, Its well built. It has constent movement in its terrain objects. The game is alive and has well built 8-bit contrast.
Great game! this could go on steam with a little more content.
You have created some really nice, distinct & personable characters (particularly the very sympathetic lead character) from a very restricted graphic/audio palette. Nice work.
The animation/sound design of the "chomper" is particularly visceral! *shudder* :)
In terms of game play it was quite engaging, particularly initially. I feel like there were places later in the game where "what to do next" could have been a little more obvious--sometimes the guidance was a little *too* minimal. Eventually I found the re-tracing of steps a bit too repetitive for my tastes--particularly when it wasn't always clear if I could pick up the "shiny thing" with my current skills or had to wait until later.
One major bug encountered while playing was that after gaining the "jump/jetpack" skill the character somehow got "stuck under the ground" where it could move but couldn't return to the proper play area. It wasn't obvious at first that this was a bug which made it even more confusing! Had to restart the game to proceed.
Overall, you did really well at communicating with minimal use of text--I particularly like the "next level/power-up" indicator on the rocket ship.
Clearly you put a lot of time & effort into getting the game into a well executed package--and doing the programming, graphics & music yourself makes it even more impressive.
P.S. Nice to see people using LMMS. :)
Thanks for the feedback! Sorry to hear about the bug - do you remember in which area of the game/ground it happened? I'll see if I can reproduce it. Totally get what you mean about having to retrace steps throughout the scenes - it can be a little tiresome. I thought about having separate rockets/things that you had to put the power orbs into throughout the planet (so that you weren't traveling as far between), but that kinda clashed with the main goal of getting the rocket back to life. Once you get the dash/booster things i feel like that lets you whiz through a little faster, but it is still a bit of a grind. Thanks again for playing and for the kind words!
Outstanding game!
Out of all games I've played and rated, this one is no doubt the best one! The level of polish this game has received, for a game jam entry, is nothing short of a spectacular!
The graphics in this game look very well done, the monochrome pixel art looks great and very climatic. Speaking of climatic, the audio in this game, besides being climatic, is also good and pleasant to hear, especially the music. The soundtrack for this game, is so fitting and relaxing, and I was actually pretty shocked to see, that it has been created by the developer for this game! Overall, the audiovisual effects are on point, they surely are the best part of this game.
The gameplay isn't bad either. It's a basic platforming game, mixed with a story telling and character upgrading. The controls are easy to understand, the game isn't too hard to beat, and exploring this desolate world and it's history is a cool and immersive experience. It's pretty solid, and I've had no problems while playing.
The only minor flaw this game has, is that the theme interpretation, compared to the rest of the game, isn't too good. The "hybrid" theme in this game appears in a form of character upgrades. It's an ok theme interpretation, but it could be a bit more creative. But this flaw, is insignificant.
Overall, this game is truly astonishing, and I rate this 5 stars! I'll be shocked if this game doesn't win this game jam.
Thank you for the compliments and feedback! Music and programming are my main hobbies - art/animation is not my strong suit so it's a lot of grinding and hacking at the pixels until it looks passable :) Agreed - I had a difficult time thinking of something for the theme but this is what came out.
You made an incredible game. I love the cinematic presentation, the gameplay, the graphics, the audio, everything!
Thanks for checking out the game! :)
The game is excellent in every aspect: graphics, audio, polishing, gameplay.
Very nice job and I hope that you'll make it longer :-)
Thank you! :)
I loved this game, art, visuals and audio are very nice! Controls are intuitive. Sometimes the camera was trembling (Idk if it's the correct word to say it) but that's not a big issue.
Great job!
We also have an entry, It would be great if you check out our game: https://mapedorr.itch.io/machinaria
Thank you, and I will!
Perfect, we are definitely facing a polished and well-finished game. Intro, visuals, gameplay, audio, everything in its place. Simply great, a firm candidate to win the jam. Congratulations for the work!
I hope that my next games have this quality =)
Thanks for playing, and for the kind words :)
I like the simple visual style and the soundtrack is really awesome. But had some bugs. I think in my game there were some textures missing (for example after you land the texture was for me chessboard like) and I also had from the first enemy (first area) the issue that his sound played multiple times even though I only jumped over it once. The screen also shuttered and made me feel really unease. But when there is a final version of this I want to play it again.
Thanks for the feedback! The checkerboard texture is intentional (you'll see what it's for if you play through ;)). The screen shaking is also intentional for certain things (landing on the ground, enemies chomping, etc.) but agreed there is some jitter when the character is moving which I need to take care of (see previous comment below on camera/screen resolution fix).
Amazing art work / sound. Loved the game, the character, everything!
Camera would shutter a bit sometimes, but that's fine :D
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I know what you mean about the camera - I think the issue is that the game's resolution is just 120x160 and the character's pixel position sometimes jitters between coordinates.
Great design, great audio!
thanks!
Superb wok done here! Visuals, atmosphere, sound and gameplay are all great! Loved your game!
Thank you! :)
Stunning art and audio!
Thanks!
Absolutely stunning art and wonderful music. Your camera work is also great. Felt good to play. Just an awesome game all around.
Thank you for the kind words :)
Great art and I feel your work in this game!! Loved the cutscenes and makes it a enjoyable game!!
Do check our game too
Thanks! :)
Your game has a soul.
thanks!
I love the art style.
Thanks!
This is awesome. The music, fx, animations and cutscenes all fit well together and give it an excellent vibe. And you used Phaser! Very good.
Thanks! I'm stuck in Phaser 2 strictly out of laziness - I saw you used Phaser 3, will definitely be checking out your code for reference!
Amazing game, nice art, nice history. i love it.
Thank you! :)
Good game! I like the art style and the sound design. I can tell a good amount of work went into polishing up the game which is always good.
It's not completely obvious on how it fits into the theme, but it's a well designed game nonetheless. Great work.
Thanks for playing! The main character starts out as a pretty simple thing but then becomes a "hybrid" creature by gaining various powers throughout.
Ah, that makes sense.
