I liked the style of the game. I bet this could be turned into a nice multiplayer arcade-style game. I really like the interpretation of the them based on the game's name and level names, but I would have liked to see those names represented in the game somehow to really drive home that exception theme. Well done, I enjoyed playing to the end.
Thanks a bunch. I'm planning to go back into this project after I finish studying a bit more so I can polish it. But I'm glad you enjoyed it in it's raw state.
This is super fun. I kept dying but kept playing through until the end because the gameplay loop is just that good. I love the look of the game too and the soundtrack is solid as well. There's a ton of potential here and it feels like you could take this a bunch of different places. Great work!
Now I was able to test it, it was just a matter of pressing enter as you said, I played the webgl version.
Your game is really good, seriously, it's great. It's awesome that is your first finished game.
The gameplay it's pretty simple, but that's expected for the scope of a game jam. What I really liked was the effort put on the details. Good SFX, nice animations, enemy life meter for feedback, camera shake for added game feel. Everything combined make it look really polished, even being so simple at the end.
You said in comment before that you not an artist. However, the animations, specially the player attacking (with anticipation, nice) were very good.
The only thing I wish was different is that I would like to be able to walk while attacking, but I can see an argument for the other way, is just my preference to feel that I have more control over the character.
I understand the walking and attacking argument, but 1) I didn't like how the legs would stop moving for the attack animation. I would have had to split the character into at least to parts and I was already behind schedule. And 2) I'm an old school Zelda fan and I usually follow the don't-move-while-attacking style since I'm very used to it.
Thank you for the encouraging comments. It really means a lot.
Sorry but I could not test your game, I clicked start and nothing happens. I will check later to see if running from itch.io app makes any difference.
Is this the Mac or PC build? I just tested on my Mac and it runs fine. I don't own a windows PC so I couldn't really test that one
Oh wait, I know what the problem is. Just hit ENTER when you're in the main menu. I must have messed something up in the UI by trying to give it gamepad support. If using a gamepad, just press the south button, otherwise press ENTER to start the game
Last thing, WebGL gamepad is kind of buggy and it inverts the Y axis. So, even when it's in line with the jam theme, I recommend using keyboard when playing in the browser
Great game! Congrats on your first finished project, I’m in the same boat with many unfinished games sitting around. Loved your graphics and music. My only request would be some sort of way to get health back, but I suppose that’s what makes it just difficult enough! I made it to level 6 a few times before the bugs got to me :)
Excellent suggestion. I had to leave it in the cutting room along with randomly generated rooms and a leveling up mechanics. At least I'm getting the hang of better managing my time to hit the deadline.
Beautiful animation on the main sprite
Thank you. I'm mainly a programmer. So, not an artist at all. It means a lot! 😆
I really like the game art
Simple game, the combat feel good, sound are good and overall it's a good little game. But, either I'm noob, or the game is too hard :)))
Short, sweet, simple, and fun :)
