Wow! Very ambitious. We also made our game in Unreal, so I have some advice. You seemed to have packaged the game in the development configuration, which is why I can see some debug lines, able to enter console commands, and the size of the zip file is quite large; use the shipping config unless you had some issues with that build. I was also able to fall through the map at several points which was a little frustrating. Making a full 3D game with unreal for a game jam is really difficult, so I applaud the effort; however, I think that means you should limit your scope. Unreal is hard, and you tried to do a lot! Good job on the progress you did make!
Cool game, I had a bug were the scroll about levitation wouldn't close so I couldn't keep playing but it was pretty enjoyable until that point, the characters and the environment were pretty good looking but I think the music was a bit repetitive after a while.
I have a pretty good pc but I was struggling to get the game to run at 60 fps, the game defaulted to epic quality and I didn't feel like going back to change the settings, probably that would have solved the issue
The controls can be found by Pressing "P" for pause
DevRoux here! Thank you to everyone that played and liked the concept! I'm sorry about the bugs. I am working on getting them removed and pushing a update after the Jam fixing them.
Thank you to everyone who played it, your feedback is recieved and definitly will be acted upon :)
Overall this was a pretty fun play. The creators obviously spent some time on it to get this done. Things are a pretty dark and can be hard to find where to go. There was a fair amount of not knowing what button to push. It seemed as though if you Read with "H", if you move away without hitting H again, couldn't figure out how to close the reading screen, so I would have to go back to the note and then press "H" again. I didn't know what to do when I got to the screenshot room, but I don't know that I got there the way I was supposed to either, =P.
Oh wow! Thank you for leaving such excellent feedback! Yeah we missed a few things, and unfortunetally the lighting wasn't baked or anything. I had some friendly critisism of the input, and so I believe that we may fix this soon. We really had to scramble on that last part, even had to remove like a 3rd of the level design because of a little bug just before we submitted. Anyway, this is dearly appreciated, thanks!
P.S : Don't exactly know what that room is because of the shadows,
Overall
Super cool premise! The shrinking mechanic of both the player and objects is excellent and I especially liked the settings menu and the start menu (I like good UI), the textures look high quality even at low quality settings and the creature animations are very well done. Along with this the music and ambience fit with the games atmosphere perfectly too.
I was very impressed at how large the world was and also how the settings menu remembers the settings from previous sessions!
Suggestions
The controls take some getting used to and some of them are very hard to figure out for example grabbing (v) or sprint (shift) which I believe have no notes telling you what key controls them, I think putting all the controls on the itch page just in case people can't figure it out would be good idea.
On the higher quality settings it's a bit too dark to see properly, I fixed this by changing the quality setting to lowest which seems to make all the materials unlit, I think if the player's staff had a little bit of glow to it then it would fix the issue and make it easier to see things.
Bugs
There are a few bugs too but that's expected for fresh 3D games of this size (and created in a short time frame!). There are some pretty big game breaking ones but thankfully you can avoid them and speed-run back to where you were once you know all the tricks and shortcuts
I think my favorite bug is the orb infinite levitation glitch which I used to explore the map, I briefly felt like a god before accidentally warping myself into the void. It works by pondering thy orb and placing it upon thy feet.
Overall excellent work!
Yes this was very helpful. I agree 100% with what you said here. Though that missing box part was actually mean to be like that, so that the player can fly over with a box and do exactly what you did. The boxes physics thing has also bothered me too, which is why I made the boxes socket into the pressure switches so they don't bounce. That levitation glitch has been a long-lasting problem, and I thought I solved it so many times before double checking and finding out I was wrong...guess it even made it to the end!
Anyway, have a good week!
I really like the atmosphere and the puzzle aspect! One thing I'd suggest is a little more clear way of introducing the player to your mechanics. I poked around until I saw 'P' was Pause, and then the controls are in there, and then V for levitate to "grab" something and such. Also like the use of the theme. Not just scaling the character but the objects too is a nice touch!
Oh thank you so much for this! Yes, we got a lot of people saying the mechanics should be introduced better. Awesome work, played your game, and loved it!
