The rendering is buggy undermining the core mechanic - often one disc renders in front of others, but your collision detection priorities the disc that is in the background :(. Also keyboard doesnt work - nothing happens when pressing numbers, so it becomes quite slow and tedious using the mouse for everything. There didn't seem to be a time pressure, I guess that was planned but not implemented? Seems like a good start but needs some more challenge and something to make it a bit less repetitive - perhaps other characters appear?

Developer

Thank you for the feedback.

  • Admittedly, the collision detection ended up a bit finicky, and probably not the best algorithm was employed when there are multiple targets close together. There was not much time to polish the experience here.
  • There is speed running because clearing the targets faster will reduce the time needed to progress.
  • Having more kinds of mobs was part of the original vision, but unfortunately it had to be cut short.

nice game. i like seeing myself struggle with basic math xd

Thank you for your comment. In a way, this game was also a means to strengthen my ever deteriorating skills in mental arithmetic.

Good concept. I think you did a great job. One thing I would add is that I missed a good soundtrack while playing your game. Good job. Please rate our game at https://itch.io/jam/game-off-2024/rate/3135697
Thank you!

Thank you for the kind feedback, glad to know you liked it. Having a simple looped soundtrack, even if just for the menu and interludes, was in my mind at the time, but unfortunately I ended up having little time to polish the game before the deadline.

I really enjoyed the concept of this game. I do have a few points of feedback:

1. Personally, I am not a fan of text-based games, so I think shortening the dialogue or adding more graphics (like talking to an NPC, reading a story book, etc) would help players be more engaged.

2. I would've loved to see more art since the gameplay was very simple. Adding more sound effects, art and maybe even some particles would really help give a polish feel.

Overall, this is a great start. Good job!

Thank you for the kind reply. It is true that a bit more imagery and eye candy would have favoured the submission. The idea of adding more forms of dialogue is also good. This was what I could achieve within the time limit, unfortunately a bit less polished than what I was aiming for.
