Game description
Embark on a personal journey of self-acceptance in this emotional platformer. Navigate through challenging levels while discovering your inner strength.

Controls:

A/D: Move left/right
Space: Jump
Left/Right Arrow: Skip/Go back a level
E: Interact
Space: Next dialogue option
Note: For the best experience, I recommend playing on Windows. The jump pad and some audio may not work properly in the HTML version.

Theme interpretation
The theme of secrets shaped the game’s narrative and mechanics. The protagonist’s journey revolves around uncovering and confronting hidden truths. The color transition from black and white to vibrant hues represents the revealing of secrets and the emotional growth that follows. The interactions with NPCs and their angel serve as a way for Alex to confront their own secrets and embrace authenticity.

Wildcards used (optional)

Cheat Mode

Let players break the rules with things like infinite lives or invincibility

Very cute and genuinely fun platformer with a beautiful art-style and a lovely story :)

I really get the sense that you've spent some time tuning the platforming controls here and it makes for a genuinely challenging platformer (I can see the Celeste influence here which is definitely a good thing ;) )

In terms of constructive feedback, I have two main things. Firstly, I think the difficulty could scale a little better. The very first jump in the game is actually a pretty precise one, and it felt that I was thrown immediately into the deep end without any real warm-up. The other thing is that I actually think the coyote time is a smidge too forgiving. Perhapse this is by design, but it actually felt like my character had a little air-jump ability. I've always felt that coyote time works at its best when it makes you feel like you did actually press the button right on the edge of the platform (which is of course an illusion). Again though this might be by design.

Beyond that I loved this game. Definitely one of the highlights of the jam for me :)

Thank you so much for playing and leaving feedback! I will definitely be spreading out the difficulty more when I add new levels.

This is a very nice game!

I think my favorite detail about it was the autumn leaves particles, it's a small thing but does a lot to bring out the atmosphere.

Great choice of music & art, it looked and felt very consistent and in tune with the game story and message.

The difficulty was ok, it didn't take more than 10 tries to complete any of the rooms, so I never felt stuck.

In some cases it was very hard to see the spikes, as they blend into the background or the decorations, and you notice them only after you die on them once or twice. Same issue with hearts in some rooms (example pic attached, heart blends with cloud and spikes blend with fence). Perhaps it would've helped if the spikes had more visually distinct features, or the decorations were not as saturated as the foreground elements. Also a minor thing, in school levels the paintings have very high contrast against background, which is similar to floor platforms, and at the same time the lockers obscure the white/brown floor lines, so it becomes somewhat hard to see at a glance where you're supposed to land, you kinda have to stop and think for a moment. There was also the issue of not being able to see where to land due to camera positioning, but that's been mentioned by other reviewers.

Overall a pretty good entry!

I really appreciate the detailed feedback. Thanks for playing!

Pretty cool game. I really like your use of the theme. Especially the idea of the town itself becoming more accepting and color being used as a representation of that.

Thank you so much!

Liked the presentation, sound design and presence of a story. Loved very forgiving coyote.

Few things I think, might help make this game even better:

- Given the current jump speed, slightly reduced camera lag would help.
- As it was said on Progz's stream a few times, spike sprites should stand out a lil more - rn they're somewhat hard to notice
- My personal - font used in dialogue/notes is hard to read. I understand, that choosing the current one might  have felt right to complement pixel-art  aesthetic, but rn it feels jarring.

Great job otherwise!

Very nice platformer! I really liked the art-style and music, and thought the story was nice too. Great work!

Thanks :)

Really nice game though I died a lot. I don't think the difficulty itself is a problem, these games should be hard, but the fact that some of the difficulty came from not being able to tell what would happen next without first dying and the controls were just a little too sensitive for some of the pixel perfect maneuvers you need to do. On the whole though I really enjoyed playing it. Nice job.

Developer

I appreciate the feedback! Glad you enjoyed and I will be making an update soon!

Back in my day, I had to leap over pits filled with spikes just to get to my classroom!

The game feels complete but needs a bit more polish to make it shine. Some levels were frustrating due to the movement sensitivity but thankfully you can skip levels if you just want to see the ending.

Had a fun time regardless of all the frustration. There's something satisfying about completing a level after restarting 10 times.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed and I'll be making some bug/gameplay fixes soon!

The music and art are great! I also like that you left in a way to skip levels if you find them to be too frustrating

I did think the game was overall a bit too hard and the controls were very frustrating in some areas for me. Things like jump pads taking me into spikes made me just skip the area to move on. In conversations it also felt awkward to me to press space bar to continue the interaction (I felt like this should have been E to continue too).

The game and idea definitely shows promise! Keep up the great work

Developer

Thank you for the feedback, I will take that all into consideration!

I like the idea and the music, but the controls killed it for me - too difficult, too sloppy (trying to jump sideways requires preparing for the skid that happens before the jump starts), and too pixel-perfect (trying to time jumps with the lag requires perfect timing). I died dozens of times on the very first jump, until finding the precise pixel (or few of them) you had to jump from.

I also disliked e.g. the early level where the arrow points down, there's no way to look down, and what's 'down' is ... spikes. You in fact have to go down, pixel-perfect timing on guessing when to press sideways.

I think tweaking the timing, e.g. making gravity just 5 or 10% lighter, and/or  improving the keyboard handler to be more responsive, would lift the game. But I'd really like to see more exploration of the themes, they are more interesting to me /unique than the platforming.

I really appreciate the feedback! I'm thinking of adding a way to move the camera up/down or zoom out. I haven't decided yet, but something to make it seem fairer. Thank you!

Really polished and really interesting seeing a story like this in a platformer. I enjoyed the challenge of each area and the colour transitions felt really clean, well done!

Great game! The bittersweet aspect of the game is interesting, the contrast is well marked. The atmosphere is soft but melancholic, both visually and with the music. The game is quite cruel in its difficulty, but with perseverance and belief in yourself, you'll get there in the end! haha. The link between the difficulty and the little words of encouragement is amusing. I also like the evolving palette, which allows the atmosphere of the game to evolve in a minimalist and effective way. The handling is simple and effective, and the level design is very well crafted to take advantage of the gameplay.

I'd just like to make a few suggestions: a more progressive difficulty, a tutorial aspect would be nice. The camera is sometimes a little slow to follow the character in certain fast passages. Perhaps some specific framing could make the game easier (you can't see certain platforms below in certain passages). And the peaks aren't visible enough, they're too pale.

In any case, it was fun to play, and it helps you work on your perseverance and patience! haha Thanks for the game.

Controls great, with some unfair death at times. Still had a good time, good job and keep making games!

A really fun platformer! The idea of limited colors is very clever, and the difficulty reminded me of classic games like Super Meat Boy (complete with teeth-gritting moments caused by my clumsy fingers). The visuals, sound effects, and music all come together in a cohesive and polished style—I love it.

As for feedback, I’d suggest giving the spikes a more defined outline because (especially in the gray environments), they didn’t stand out much, and in the first few minutes, I couldn’t figure out what was killing me! But considering this was made in just a month, I’m even more impressed. Amazing work!

Thanks for the feedback!

this is so cute and wonderfully done! I love the art, the cute sound effects, the background audio, the uplifting dialogue. I love how the colors get richer and richer as you go, and I love how you integrated collecting the hearts into the platforming itself!! Also I'm pretty sure you implemented coyote timer, and actually in some segments it is necessary for progression. Very well polished!

Indeed as the others said there are some blind falls sometimes but it didn't bother me much. I think the platforming was challenging in a good way and done really well as I mentioned above. I didn't skip any of the levels hehe. If I may give more feedback, the pads didn't always play the correct animation (jump would still work well), like the picture below is the first time I saw the animation. I was playing in browser so maybe that's why.

The spike hitbox could be a tinyy bit more forgiving in some segments where you have to land between spikes.

I was very sad when I reached the end :( I wanted more. I honestly think the platforming was near perfect in this game. Reminded me a lot of Celeste in a good way. Keep up the amazing work!

Developer

Thank you so much! I definitely plan to add more levels and areas to explore later on. I did notice that bug as well when I was play testing, but didn't have the time to fix it. That will be the first thing I update. Glad you enjoyed! :)

A fun platformer, though in my opinion the movement needs a bit more polish, and there was a blind fall i couldnt get through so I had to skip that level. found a bug where you can stop your fall midway by getting into a wall, other than that bug the game felt fairly polished. Has alot of potential imo, cant wait to see where this game goes.

Developer

Yes, I will be working on these bug fixes soon. Thanks for the feedback!

Really awesome game, I loved the mix of uplifting messages and the general peaceful atmosphere. It's short, but I agree it feels very polished. Good job!

Developer

Thank you! I want to add move levels soon and more places to explore, but I wanted to make sure this game was polished for the jam :)

fun cute game, I loved how chill it was and the dialog was uplifting. some things I think could use a little improving though is making the movement feel a little better, and making jumps more clear, like getting rid of blind falls where you can't see what's below you. its a cool game though!

Developer

Thank you, I will improve on that!

Loved the game and your attention to detail. Felt as an ode to a lot of other games, in a good way. Also loved that from the first jump, you knew right way what kind of game it was, a hard one :-).

In the black and white (starting) world, I did not know what I was dying. When it was color, I found out. It were spikes. I did not see them very well. Also, I did not know the heart counter at the top was counting, was a bit unclear. Some very minor things because this is a good, polished game.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I'm thinking about removing the heart UI because the hearts don't really mean anything. Or I might add a better reason to collect them (and update the UI).

Submitted

Cool game. Just a couple thoughts. In the black and white sections, its a little difficult to see the spikes, and some are off-screen, like in the last black and white screen. Jumps with low ceilings are a little difficult to pull off due to how strong the gravity is. And looks like the boncing pads only work if you jump first, most games will bounce continuously. Other than that, great use of the asset pack.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. I will definitely be updating some of the art to make it easier to see. The jumping first for the bouncing pads was on purpose, but I think I will change that.
