OK.. at first I was thinking "damn the delay between attacks is way too long.. and this does not feel responsive".. then I've read the "theme": "souls like" and I was: "ahhhhhhh that explains it" xD

This was an awesome efford at the theme :D

This was awesome! I really loved the graphics and the gameplay was tough but good, just like a souls game! Well done on this!

I also had a chance to play this game when the down key meant death, and though it made the game unplayable, I still had a blast and laughed a whole bunch. The controls would stop working quite a lot, like pressing Enter wouldn't bring up the Inventory menu and so forth, sometimes the menu would not show the Inventory with the <- arrow, and I couldn't use any points to upgrade my character. I will play again with your updates and see how it goes then!

It was cool to scroll through the levels with the secret button, too. I am absolutely amazed at how many levels you managed to put in this in 2 days. A really, really beautiful game, and I look forward to playing it again with the updates!

UPDATE: Much better now that the down key issue is fixed! I still found myself getting lost with the controls (not sure how to upgrade the character either), but it is very challenging and again, very very beautiful.

Thanks for your reply! Really disappointed that you can't upgrade the character with the keyboard as some of the late game would be nearly impossible without some levelling.

Lesson learned. Next time we need to test keyboard controls more extensively, if we include gamepad. I'll see if I can't fix the menu after work.

Please let me know if you're able to fix it! I really want to play the rest of the game. :D

Developer

Hi, I've just uploaded a fixed version. There's a few balance changes in it too and better GUI for keyboard users so to protect the Game Jam Integrity of this entry the original version is still available.

I also faced the keyboard issue, and I thought I was going crazy. Switched to the gamepad and all was working.

This game was amazing! You really captured the Dark Souls aesthetic, the controls were smooth (after I figured out using them), the music was excellent, and the enemy designs and animations were great!

Really impressive what y'all accomplished in a weekend!

The elite strat for this game is to never go down. because pressing the down key hurts you.

That's frustrating! We mainly tested with gamepad and completely overlooked removing a few basic keyboard dev commands from like the first few hours.

Thanks for pointing it out, I have now fixed this glaring issue.
