Appreciate your time playing it,
You are actually helping the monster destroy the city.
Beginning of the game the first thing you pick up are actually its arms/legs you attach it to him and the monster begins its rampage.
Monsters health drops below either his arms or legs pop off, you have to reattach, he gets a percentage of the health back and can continue the rampage.
Sorry it wasn't as clear I am glad you enjoyed it!
It's fun. The AI is very dumb, after a certain point you can race ahead to kill everything without the big guy being impacted in any way. Outside of that, it needs a lot of work.
I like the idea it's going for, but the art style is pretty all over the place and it's unclear on what you're supposed to do to defeat the kaiju. I do really like the aspect of the kaiju getting bigger, I thought that was pretty neat! But overall, I think the game needs more clarity. Cool theme though!
Thank you for trying it Shewy,
Scrapped 3 ideas during the jam time and really scrambled to use what assets we had, and that did contribute negatively to the look I agree (I laid it out in a reply to another post here).
During the Jam and near the end I just didn't have time for a quick gameplay tutorial which I kicked myself about when hitting submit.
Essentially you are keeping your Kaiju maintained while helping it rampage through a city. Enemy bullets hurt the kaiju and causes legs or arms to pop off, you reattaching re-energizes it and it gets more mad and starts rampaging faster.
I appreciate you taking time out of your day to try and write a reply thank you!
Appreciate that you took the time to try it out!
Your interpretation of the theme I thought was really unique :)
My interpretation of the fix it theme with the monster being broken and players have to continually put it back together when its arms or legs pop off.
There were 3 of us brainstorming and the amount of time "fix it felix" came up I wanted to pivot us in a different train of thought.
Wanted to spin the theme a little you are keeping the thing causing destruction city destruction going by reattaching its arms and legs when they pop off
How I pitched it to my collaborators
ChippedMonk and Brofessor
Was Dr. Frankenstein a scientist? or a glorified repairman just specializing in flesh?
Hi JJ thanks for taking the time to play!
(great entry yourself btw)
It might not be as clear on the itch but this was a collab between 3 IRL friends.
I haven't had the time to update the page with attribution but I can do a rundown here and when I have more time to update the itch page. I also planned on doing a postmortem just to get all 3 of our thoughts together for fun.
Everyone is right different assets was because of scrapping an idea beforehand salvaging it, scrapping it again and running with what we had in the last few days full time jobs and family come first as well.
We all knew this would be brought up but we had the gameplay there and our main artist was busy with work so we worked with what we had.
Initial thought was for when a limb gets blown off from the kaiju to have all 4 players attach it wherever leveraging the sticker system, in an operation style mini game.
this was using the style you see the kaiju in now, he was different pieces formed into something like a monster with moldable parts when he was originally supposed to be a lovecraftian amalgalm of parts created by the players.
ChippedMonk - Kaiju, Player Char, Guns, Heli, Tanks, Buildings - Created in Clip Studio
Brofessor - Joke song at the end was created with Sudo, as well as Supporting Programming (gamertags, and the scrapped sticker system that wasn't done in time for the jam, also scrapped custom netcode written in java we couldnt get to not lag with more than 2 players tied to the sticker system)
Mister Gimpy (me) Most of the programming - Enemy bullets, were me just made in the pixel editor, Kaiju roar was me screaming into a mic, with echo's and bitcrush added and spliced with a sound of my dog barking. using audacity
THE BG parallax layers were midjourney images painted over and cut with Photoshop
Other assets were from previously purchased asset packs:
