Very nice game! The puzzle twist with the traditional snake gameplay is well developed, and the sound design is really good too!

Thaaaaaaat's a 5 star game!  Innovative, fun, and brilliant.  I can only think of two problems: 1) Unresponsive controls 2) Visual "segment breaks" while the snake is moving.  Fantastic game!

Developer

Hey, everyone, after the jam ends, I'll upload a post jam version with refined controls. I'll be less frustrating. Cheers :)

Turning Snake into a puzzle game is a great idea! The shrinking mechanic adds a really interesting twist too. I also appreciate some of the general twists on the classic Snake formula, like giving the player a bit of grace time before the failure state!

Less appreciated is the smoothed movement, though... it creates some severe input lag which honestly killed the game for me, the snake was consistently turning a full grid tile after I wanted it to, which made later levels extremely difficult even after I figured out the solution.

Developer

Yeah, I'm sorry moving is weird. Hadn't time to polish that part enough, even if it's important. Thanks for your feedback !

I really, really like the game. The concept and graphics are spot on, so are the sounds. However, the game fell apart for me on the last level. I think the controls are not fit for a level like that. You have to make so many precision turns, and the intertia and input lag make it very hard to do. I wasn't able to beat the last level even though I knew exactly what I had to do. It takes what was a fun little puzzle game and turns it into a frustrating trial of perfect execution.

I think if there are two routes you could take to make a great game out of this:

A) More spacious levels like the first four that have more margin of error/fewer potential errors

B) or make the controls more responsive and decrease the inertia and you can make the levels as complex as you can imagine.

Hey thanks ^_^

I do know the controls are a bit weird and I apologize for that. I had several ideas to improve the game and one of these idea is  to make a turn based puzzle game, this should correct all the controls problems :)

Nice concept, snake as a puzzle game. I like how the snake slides into the 'grid' when turning and the no instant death when touching the walls.

A really fun and interesting concept that got executed very well! Really enjoyed it til the end!
The responsiveness of the snake was a little bit hard but once you get used to it, its so easy to play with!

A really solid game. The levels shown weren't super challenging but I did have to consider what I was doing (especially for the crate one) and you were able to show a lot of potential using them.

I was a bit bad at controlling the snake and that was the reason I failed 90% of the time, I seemed to be turning to late a lot. I don't want to say it was the game's fault, I might just be messing up. It wasn't a big deal though, there's no way to expect everything to be perfectly tight in a jam game.

Developer

You are not the first one having problem with controls, it's my fault, it's not really well done :( , but it's perfectible, If I had more time, it would have been better :)

But anyway, thanks for your comment !

Cool game. :) Would be nice if it was turn-based because having to constantly move seems counter-intuitive to a puzzle game where you have to plan ahead and think. But other than that, the puzzles are nice. :)

Hey thanks for your comments.

Having a turn based snake will be better if I make a full version. Having it real time to keep the "Snake" feel, seemed a good idea during the jam :p

So I like how you turned snake into more of a puzzle game instead of a scoring game, gives it a nice twist, and on top of that, level design wise, it's well executed. The art is simple yet good, and that's pretty awesome for a 48 hour jam. Now my only problem has to do with the core gameplay, controlling the snake didnt feel responsive to me, I didn't feel in control, this probably has to do with how smooth the animation is combined with the fact that everything is actually based on a grid, so when you move, there will be a delay related to where you are on that grid. I really don't know how this could be improved because of that... But yeah, other than that it's a solid concept :)

Edit: Oh yeah, really liked the crates too! It's where it became a puzzle game for me and I was like ooooh!!

Developer(+1)

Hey ! Thanks a lot !

Yeah, the snake is not that responsive and it's because the code is not really clean. Sorry for that, if I do a better version, I'll spend a lot of time so the snake feels responsive :-)

I love how you showcased lots of different ideas in a nice short format. Now 'just' polish and add more levels  and it will be a great game :D

Developer

Hey ! Thanks :)

The point where Snake crosses over with Sokoban puzzles me. Apart from that, it's basically Snake again, with puzzly elements. Nice job.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the sokoban part was just me trying to find different ideas to exploit the snake. And Sokoban crates were easy to implement (It's basically 80% of the snake code). It may not be the best idea of the pool, just some experimentation :-]

Really nice game, with awesome level design and a great idea. I'm also a big fan of the level transition little animation and music ^^

My only small complaint is that it doesn't quite fit the theme of the jam ; indeed, even if it focuses on shrinking instead of growing, the game doesn't lack any mechanic compared to traditional snake, since growing is still present. But that's only a small detail, and it doesn't change anything the fact that this is a great brand new take on the classic Snake formula and a good game. :)

A solid game, that feels complete. And a fresh take on snake games. Especially great for a simple game made in less than 48 hours. Good game and Good luck. :)

Hope you can go check out my game, even though its not as polished. But it still stands haha.

Awesome. Cool idea with a good level design. It deserves more levels ! :)

This is a great concept that is well executed! The addition of the pools of water is what really puts this game over the top- it really made me think about each puzzle spatially! The greatest criticism I have for this game is the constant movement. The constant movement is there to show that the game is snake, but I don't think it fits with the puzzle vibe it's going for.

Developer

Hey, thanks !

Yes, the constant movement might be annoying for a puzzle type of game. My ideas were not very clear, so it stayed, that's the law of a 48h jam, you don't have time the think twice about what you are doing ;)
