Interesting and fun concept - you're effectively forced to get hit at least somewhat while learning the mechanic. I think a small invincibility window after getting hit would make gameplay more predictable and enjoyable. Overall, nicely done!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback! You're absolutely right, it doesn't quite feel consistent or fair due to the way enemy spawns are handled. Something like i-frames would go a long way towards leveling the playing field.

Not bad! The core loop is quite fun, I like the tactical nature of expending resources to clear the screen, going in for an attack to regain resources, and regrouping.

Here are some suggestions for future work:

- It would be really nice to see the range on how close you have to be to eat an enemy; because you have to weave through attacks to get there, you really really do need to know whether your trajectory will get you close enough or not.

- I'd add some iframes when you get hit so you don't get instakilled quite so easily

- I'm not sure exactly how to do this in a bullet hell-type game, but I think the attack patterns should be balanced a little bit so that it's more feasible to get through if you're out of burps; right now running out of them is basically a failure condition because you probably won't be able to get any more.

Developer

I totally agree with everything you suggested! Unfortunately, I had to go the randomized route, because I didn't really have time to script out encounters with pre-determined patterns. I also definitely planned originally to have a little more visual feedback around the magnet attraction, but that was one of the first things I had to lose due to time constraints.

The i-frames are a great idea, and I hadn't thought about that. I think a combination of that and some form of feedback on when you get damage would make it feel a lot more fair.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I really appreciate it. Glad you thought it was fun!

very good game it just needs a tutorial and it will be perfect i loved it.

if you wanted you can go check out my entry it will be very nice to rate and leave feedback.

Not a big fun of gassy stuff, but the game itself was very hectic and fun, just the way I like it ;)

It seems to be too easy to collect and build up 'burps' though. Maybe make it so the more he eats the more it takes to get a burp, then focus more on the way the player moves to be able to dodge bullets? IDK, just my two cents. Great job!

I always enjoy bullet hell spectacle, this one also has some very nice sprites.
Took me a while to understand, that my objective is to enter the trance of eating and burping so efficiently, no bullet can touch me, but the execution is still difficult. Outside of difficulty curve starting quite have, I see no issues with this game, it's simple, but feels complete. Great job!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

pretty neat idea. Although I was a little confused at first. I didn't know how to use the magnet mechanic but I eventually figured it out.

Pretty neat take on the bullet hell genre!

Here I some of the gripes I had:

Hard to tell how close you need to be to eat an enemy. Often I would just run at them and then end up dying because i put myself at unnecessary risk.

I  the burps felt kind of inconsistent. I assume that you need to use one to clear everything so you can go back in and eat some more dudes or heal up (because they shoot so many bullets, its unreasonable to try solely to dodge them), but often times I would go in and die any way, because they just kept on shooting. But I'm also used to playing another bullet hell with a consumable that does a similar thing, but that is given out much less frequently, so I might have been used to conserving them too much.

It's also a little hard to tell what's going on at times.

Other then those things, it was fun! Nice job!

This is a fun idea! I like that it forces you to engage with the enemies, getting up close and personal rather than just hanging back and shooting. One thing that could use a little work is the difficulty curve. I think it starts out way too hard. Nevertheless, it's a fun idea! Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, the difficulty curve is kind of non-existent because the spawns are pseudo random. I definitely would've gone for a pre-scripted level with a boss if I had another several hours to play around with it.

Really fun and challenging game, nice work !

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it.

A very fun solid game, just need a way to keep score or a timer, to have a reason to keep playing. Good game and good luck :)

Hope you get the chance to play mine and try mine out, thanks!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the highscore counter was the last thing on the list of nice-to-haves that didn't make it for time. In the end, the burp counter kinda becomes a highscore counter, though. Got it up to like 30 once. ;)

Fun twist!  It took me a couple playthroughs to get a good feel for everything, but it's pretty solid.  I do think a little extra polish and clarification on when you take damage / die would have gone a long way.  Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you liked it. And thanks for the feedback! That's a super good point, and I never thought about that. There isn't even a sound for it. It could definitely use like a red flash when you take a hit, too. I tried adding screenshake for other things, but it messed up the movement.

A fun and interesting take on the bullet hell genre, the difficulty seems a bit intense and inconsistent, and perhaps the belches could be less powerful but cause enemies to have a delay on firing, could make it easier to chain enemy kills together but without reducing the difficulty by keeping more of the bullets onscreen and forcing dodging through the great patterns and variations.

Developer

Yeah, I know what you mean. Unfortunately, everything had to be randomized, because there was no way I was going to have the time to plan out levels and make sure the patterns were fair.  As a result, it kinda swings between super easy or a little unfair. Prior to balancing it that way, it was always tough as nails, so this was the best compromise I had time for.

The burps are a little tougher, because you get them from enemies. If they also stunned enemies, the game would be way too easy. As it stands, if you get a couple, you basically becomes unstoppable (you can see me spamming burps and chain killing in the gifs XD). They're basically in their as a way to make up how unfair the randomness is. Maybe doing them as a stun would make more sense with pre-planned patterns.

Thanks for the feedback!

It was so hard when its your first time playing the game, but it gets more fun to play once you get used to the controls! :)

Developer

Definitely takes a little time to get used to, but then once you play it enough it gets too easy.  Could've used a little more time for balancing. :

Submitted(+1)

Actually really fun and clever. Just needs some polish. In particular the difficulty curve and better visual indicators of what's going on. It can be a bit hectic. Otherwise, a solid entry.

Submitted(+1)

Fun twist on the "bullet hell but you can't shoot" idea! The bullet patterns are fun to look at and to avoid, but I feel like the burps make them a bit too easy to just circumvent entirely? Either way, a good time for sure

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I initially had a lot more enemies shooting a lot more bullets, but it was a little too much considering the spawns are pseudo-randomized. Unfortunately I took it way too far in the other direction and didn't realize how easy it was until it was too late.

Submitted(+1)

Cool game! 4/5 for concept, 3/5 for execution! I particularly liked the bullet patterns. Sometimes it seems like you have to hold your tongue a certain way in order to attract a gun, though.

Developer

Hey, glad you liked the game! I haven't personally run into any issues  with being able to grab a gun, but it's pretty easy to miss a glitch in a 48 hour jam. You have any examples of situations that you remember that might give me a direction to look in?

Submitted(+1)

It's never impossible, just seems slightly inconsistent. Sorry, no concrete scenarios, just a "feel" thing :p

Developer

I get what you mean. Thanks for the feedback!
