Hey I like this! The sound effects and the little particles that come off the cube when it hits the ground are really satisfying. I could have used a charge up meter or some other visual cue to show in which direction the cube would be going. But I think you nailed the juice and that you have a real solid foundation for a great game.
Check out our game if you get the chance :)
Hey thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it! I finished making the mechanics and the whole map on the first day which allowed me to spend the last day on little details. Yeah I did think of drawing a line to show where youve dragged but I was caught up with work and other stuff. I will check out your game!
Very nice, it does resemble the feel of Getting Over It type of games, got all the way to the orange zone and down I went after that, to that very first spot where you start in.
One thing that might make it feel better is having a meter to know how far youre going, or at least some visual feedback, that way you can actually make precise movements and know the limits of the movement.
Theres a thing where if you drag horizontally and then up, you'll go way harder than it should (i think, unless its inteded, but it doesnt feel that way)
Really neat particles when it falls down too
Fs in the chat for the fallen cube.
Yeah I actually wanted to have a line drawn whenever you drag your cursor but I was just focusing more on the feel of the cube and the visuals. I spent no time on UI and thats why that line wasnt drawn. Rip.
The basic idea of the game is interesting and reflects the theme of jam ... but unfortunately can not give that feeling of out of control. The cube is quite heavy and bumps on surfaces in a predictable way. This would not have been a problem if the level design was more accessible. I was frustrated playing after a short time. The influence of Getting Over It is very much present, but this may not be a problem for other players. In general, I recommend trying the game.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. After the game jam voting ends I'm updating it to make it so that the cube is somewhat slippery and bouncy to make it more out of control. Everyone in my comment section says it doesn't fit the theme of the game jam and I have to admit I did not adhere that closely to it so my apologies. More effort will be put into the game next year perhaps. :D
Congrats on the game, it looks really nice! I had fun with it but didn't feel very out of control; although not being able to move while sliding is intended, it doesn't make the game feel any more 'out of control'.
Is it normal, that the cube ignores my mouse movements and just goes into the general direction of left or right? I tried letting it shoot up to no avail.
It moves in the direction you drag
Then I must have a bug of some sort. Everytime I try the cube jumps more diagonally to the right or the left than up.
It reminds me of 'Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy' except with even less control. It would have been nice if you didn't have to wait for the cube to stop before you can take another move.
The polish of the graphical style is really nice though!
Thank you for the feedback! The reason why I implemented the waiting is to actually make it irritating XD. This allowed me to add slopes that just makes the cube slide to make it even more irritating as the only thing you can do is watch it slowly move down as you lose progress.
I don't feel like the out of control aspect was implemented very much in this game, because even though the controls for the WASD keys weren't there it was still controllable with the mouse. The level was challenging enough for me to quit after I fell from the top haha, and the game looks beautiful Great work on finishing a game jam!
Thank you! The out of control aspect comes actually at the start when you dont understand how much power does what. Control in this game is rather the pull and the angle of the mouse when you start playing it. Not my best idea but I learned from YouTube when entering game jams: Take your idea, then cut it in half. Maybe half it again. This is what I got. HAHA
First things first: the style and especially the lighting are perfectly on point. It already looks so polished I‘m quite jealous :D But the mechanic is Kind of weird. I suspected the Cube to shoot in the opposite direction I‘ve pulled it. More like a rubber band. This way it feels a bit unintuitive. Great submission nevertheless!
Thank you for playing! Yes I did recognize that everyone expects this kind of drag to shoot game to work like a rubber band but since the theme was out of control and I knew everyone was quite familiar with the rubber band technique, I thought I'd reverse it to make it a little unexpected and difficult. Apparently this wasn't the way to go but thank you for playing my game!
