When you boot up the game the snake eats you and then you get told what to do. That is a great way to introduce the core game loop to the player. the fact that you drop apples that cause the snake to grow longer but also reset its velocity is ingenious. I struggled to get past the 3rd level so randomizing them would have let players see more of the game.
overall, good game.
Fun snake-inspired game! I really love the retro pico-8 style of the game! Sound track fits very well too.
Gameplay is a bit hard, and it feels strange that the snake can move through walls.
Besides that very good entry!
This was such a fun take on Snake! The art and sound design was sooo good, you really nailed the retro feel for this one! I didn't know what I was dropping was apples until I read your description, but the gameplay was super fun and definitely feels like a game I'd spend hours playing on my old PC as a kid! Great work!
this game is Sick! AND you made it in PICO 8!! so cool. love the music, love the gameplay. A+++ game !
Nice twist. Really stressful. I found apple a little bit small. As I'm often stuck to a wall, the snake often don't eat my apple. Overall great mini-game !
Absolutely love the retro aesthetics, well done there. The snake is a little OP as it's able to fly over the whole level, but stunning it and running in loops across the maze is still really fun.
Awesome entry!
Really fast-pace and fun game. I only managed to arrive to stage 3, because that snake always end up being too big. Quite a nice shift from the original snake, but equally adictive.
I really like it is almost like a racing game with the risk and reward options of being able to temporarily slow him down by feeding him apples, with greater risk in the future as the snake gets bigger. Really creative!
Nice. I also make games about snakes. I like your idea.
Love the game! Really like how th game progressively gets higher. The game is also addictive and very fun to play. Great job guys!
Very addictive game, I love it! High score 398, pretty pleased with that.
Love the advancements; was smashing the first stage and like "Too Easy" but then each subsequent stage brought me new surprises and stress.
Love the style, very clean - was able to track the stage, myself, the snake and even my mini-pellets really easily.
Nothing I would change here! Honestly, I'll probably stop back later to try for a better score.
Okay, 541, now I'm satisfied.
Thanks for stopping by!
Delightful.
Thanks :)
i wasnt talking to you
heyooo, fellow pico 8 dev! this is a blast to play! really fast-paced and addicting. i like how it just throws you in, then teaches you the rules after you die--it set the tone very well! it took me a bit to realize that i was laying down the dots that the snake would eat, but it's easy enough to figure out through play that i liked discovering it without a tutorial.
the only issue i've run into so far is with the high scores--the endcard will tell me one score, but then the high score table will have a slightly lower number for some reason. my scores have been 1 recorded as 0 (first round lol), 80 recorded as 76, and 186 recorded as 171.
i just played three rounds real quick, but i'll be back to this one for sure! it has exactly the kind of quick, bite-sized gameplay that i love. and the music is real pretty! congrats on the jam, and wonderful outcome!
Howdy! Thanks so much for playing, the kind words, and the bug report! Not sure how that happened. I spent so long fighting the janky wall physics that I didn't look for other bugs.
oh, i barely had time to playtest at the end of the jam so i completely get that!! fortunately it doesn't affect the actual play experience, so it's the good kind of bug to have :p
I liked this a lot! Getting chased around by the snake as it increases in length made for some interesting gameplay moments. Good job!
Thanks!
Game mechanic is very bright! had lots of fun
Thanks mate :).
