The lack of time can be really seen here, but I wonder, would it be more playable if the camera was locked onto the player, who would respawn upon getting stuck? Because the AI decided it did not want to continue walking most of the time :(
But still, it's a pretty neat concept, good job! :)

Salute to your dedication.

Omg, we had the same idea for the game jam, we just had different approaches .A great idea btw!

I just felt the execution a bit lacking, the character was bugged and didn't keep moving even after a dragged some blocks around.

Anyways the idea is very interesting!

Thanks! I was looking for entries with a similar concept. I love you approach!

I started it as a technical challenge. My objective was to create an AI capable of traversing any platforming level and later on think about the game itself and level design.
The problem was once it was "okay", I was already low on time and adding the option to change the route and recalculate it, added some interesting challenges I had not predicted.

I could have made it easier by introducing some hacks for a specific level, but I wanted a versatile AI.
I will probably work a bit more on it in the future to have at least the prototype working as expected.

a good concept. some crtitique,though:

when i move a block during AI's jump, it stops moving(probably to recalculate the route), and it falls, even though it was going to jump from a normal block to a ormal block.

also, i think you forgot to change block's standert position, cuz if i don't touch anything, the game just completes itself.

some ideas: i think you could take some inspiration from 'will you snail', you can find it on youtube

Thanks. I did not take into account recalculating the path at mid jump and it should at least complete the jump before using the new route.
The block's default position is on purpose precisely to allow seeing the AI complete the level. As it is bugged and sometimes cannot recalculate the path properly when moving the blocks, it would be impossible to complete it.

I didn't know about "will you snail", it looks awesome! Thanks for the recommendation, will definitely take a look at it.

Hey, it's a great start for 48 hours! Most people in this jam had some old code lying around that helped them get started (including me) ... so getting to the point where you can post a prototype is still super cool. :D

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, my approach to game Jams is to start everything from scratch (except art, which I can't produce :S)

The idea is wonderful but AI stopes when I change anything and I can't play...

Developer(+1)

Your are right. If you move a block to a place where the AI can still reach the objective it works properly. It's cool to see how it uses your moved block to jump on.

I'm glad you like the idea, me too ;P So I may update it in the future to fix these bugs.

I think this is a really cool idea! I wasn't really able to make the game work (the viewport kept side scrolling even if the AI character hadn't updated its position, so the character quickly got lost off the screen with no way for me to try to continue to puzzle out the correct path to move the character forward).

I do like the idea of a reverse platformer and using AI as a way to make that viable, so I'd love to see how this game evolves in the future!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I later on realized that I should have implemented a camera system like "Super Mario Bros" where it only starts scrolling once the character moves past half of the screen.
I may update it in the future.
