This was a very nice puzzle! Proud to say that I completed it without writing anything down. Quite challenging but fun! Although there should probably be something preventing commands that could fit multiple separate actions from coming up, as that happened to me and it threw me off a bit. Also could I just say that the little sound effects are hilarious!
i’m so glad you enjoyed, thank you for bearing with the roughness to complete the game! I’m curious to know which commands overlapped more than one action — I tried to make sure that the commands generated could only ever fit one rule at a time!
If I remember correctly, there's one action where the command must be symmetrical, and another one that has to have 4 of the same symbol and one different one, right? I got something like this: "&&*&&" and that could fit into both, and it ended up being the symmetrical one. Although I might be misremembering a little. Also, this was the only instance where anything like this happened that I noticed, so the whole system is mostly watertight! Writing this up makes me tempted to play the whole game again lol
What a great surprise this was. I didn't know what to expect and I got a very challenging puzzle! I managed to beat the game, but I had to write down every command I got in order to find the rules, so I think the memory mechanic isn't really useful here. But still, great interpretation of the theme and great sound effects :p !
As a collector of such virtual pet games, I found this one so hilarious! Laughing and enjoying it!
Really really really creative idea. My adhd brain was really struggling with this one, excellent puzzle. It got a little repetitive after a bit and I really wanted to strangle the guy (in a good way though). The art is pretty cute as well. I don't know if it fits the theme very well, but its still such a cool idea that it works.
Beautiful idea! This is one of the greatest concepts I've seen in this jam. You have a lot of potential for a future release, maybe even a story mode... even if I don't know how it could apply lol. Loved the humour too
Great job and good luck with the jam!
The idea is great but if you had the time, I think it would be a good idea to add like notes system in the game when trying to decipher all the command. but for your first submission, it is good.
Thank you! Absolutely, planning to make the game far more forgiving and incorporate more clues over time to make it less discouraging — and adding some degree of polish too.
Your game has such a fun concept, and the art is adorable!
I really like this idea a lot, but I definitely struggled with barely getting two pips, but maybe that's a player issue?
Not a player issue at all! This ended up being harder than I intended, but I'm glad you were able to get two pips. A later version will hopefully be more player-friendly. Thanks for trying it out!
THIS IS CUTE im a big fan, rated it well :) you should check out my game if you want!
I really, really love this idea! Super funny and creative. Sadly my virtual-pet brain was far too small to get 2 pips in a row (let alone 10)--I think an in-game notes function would be nice to help paperless players like me--BUT boy did I enjoy trying:)
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed - the win condition is a little more punishing than I’d originally intended, because with the number of options, you basically need to have figured out the patterns for every kind of command.
Originally considered adding a way to take notes in-game, but hadn’t worked with text input before and wanted to keep things simple to get to a playable result. Definitely considering adding that for a more evolved version of the concept.
I may update the description to recommend taking notes earlier!
Really creative use of theme. Maybe it's just me but I wish the game was a little bit easier. I like all the fun sound effects. I like that he can do a flip. If you expand the game it would be cool if the pet did the other actions visually too. Good job.
