Wish I could've played this during the rating period. You all did wonderfully. It's a really solid game with wonderful level design, music, and art. The animations gave Puff a lot of life and I had a good time beating the game. Great job.

Thank you for the kind words Ramosb :) I'll pass them on to the team

Please do, you all did great.

I want to play it, but the download is a weird file type that I don't know what to do with.

Developer

Hey! It's a compressed file you can use 7zip to extract, then open it up and run the executable. Alternatively if your not familiar with how to do that, you can download the itch app, https://itch.io/app, find our game again and click install. It dodges any file shenanigans and should run it as an application so you can play it.

Hope this helps!

Love the style! The little guy's sounds are fantastic. Acceleration feels little sluggish, which I would guess is because there are several jumps with the intent of gaining speed. I get the appeal of that kind of platformer but I don't think it's a great fit for a game where failing a jump necessitates redoing a section, which is different from a similar type of platformer in Sonic  where falling down makes the player to through a different tier of the level instead. Sorry if that's a lot, just something I noticed. Great game though!

Developer

Glad you like it, we were very happy with how the art style and sounds turned out.

Yeah the slow acceleration has been a common comment - having done a few runs since submitting I think I agree; just one of things we unfortunately didn't get time to fine tune.

OMG the art style is so cute!! A very enjoyable short experience.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words :) We are glad you enjoyed Puff!

Oh wow! love the art style of the game! and the level design is really good! the only thing i think i'd wanna see changed is making the movement a bit more snappy for easier platforming, i can easily see this becoming a fun game where you try to keep up your momentum, those parts were definitely the most fun!

Developer

Thank you KaosRio for taking the time to play and for the kind words :) And thank you for the feedback it is duly noted!

Short but enjoyable the whole time. Enjoyed the music so I was sad it stopped, but a great entry. Momentum is fun!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! Yeah we are gutted about the music ending haha, we will be fixing it post voting period :) Thanks for playing Puff!

Really good looking game and cute theme! Sadly I'm really bad at platformers so didn't get too far. I tried it on 2 computers and had problems with the frame rate, but this is probably due to my computers not being good.

Developer

Ah sorry to hear about the performance issues lem! Thank you so much for trying out the game though :) We are happy you enjoyed the bits you did play

Great job with this - I can see we're not the only platforming fish in town! I loved the puff mechanic for the platforming, it was well executed and gave just the right level of challenge without feeling overwhelming. Also I love these little guys:

Really beautiful artwork for a game jam, not seen any with that level of quality! The music stopped and didn't start again which made me sad ;w; but I enjoyed it!

Developer

Wow thank you for that comment! Yeah sadly that seems to be a bug we didn't find until after submission, we must have all been beating the game too quickly to find it :P

The game looks amazing and the music fit the visuals perfectly. I'm always down to play some time attack, though it did take me a while to realise I was being timed :D

I really struggled on one of the jumps that required changing size at the top of the jump, even knowing what I (think) I should be doing I struggled to hit it consistently.

I'll come back and try to get a decent any% time later in the jam!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words TheKimeo! Let us know what time you get! See if you can beat my time of 01:12.5 haha!

I tried a few attempts and managed to improve with each attempt:

  1. 3:34.2
  2. Game crash right as I hit the end but was 2:XX
  3. 1:50.9
  4. 1:43.2
  5. 1:42.3
  6. 1:30.9

That last run was about as clean as I'm going to get. I don't see how to skim another 16+ seconds off the run without some sort of skip.

I found a couple issues doing these runs:

  • I think the game crashes if you complete a run after 'restarting' a previous run.
  • The character can get stuck on things you wouldn't expect while scaling.
    • Right at the start the first transition to large and back my character would often clip into the ground and get stuck, unable to move right until I let go of the right key.
    • The flags (or maybe the flag strips?) would get caught on my character if I changed scale at the same time as crossing them.

Ah those a great times nice one, there was indeed a skip that we found after the fact on the 2nd slide haha.

Thank you for reporting those bugs, we will look into those for the post voting fixes :)
