How does your game fit the theme?
Game is about scaling (as in climbing) platforms. Yeah it's a Jump King ripoff, but all I could come with as a first timer

Development Time

(Optional) Please credit all assets you've used
This game was made for GMTK 2024 game jam by following Brackeys tutorial. All assets (music, font, art) come from this video. The core mechanic? Well it's a shameless Jump King ripoff (check it out if you haven't).
It's not groundbreaking nor unique, but all I could come up for the theme "built for scale" (scaling as in climbing) within a reasonable scope for a first-timer like me.
I had a blast both playing and making this thing and hope everyone else has too.
Good luck to the rest!

PS: I beat it after 1 hour and 14 minutes 😭💢

Really snappy, good balance between gameplay and asset style. Took 43:08 to beat, my thumb's completely numb. A good implementation of the KISS principle.

Idk if it was just me but I had real trouble getting the right jump strength, may just be that my spacebar is too deep to tell though.

Congratz! You could also add some sort of spin to already existing mechanics, for example the stronger the jump the bigger the character becomes. Overall it was fun playing it!

Really cool, we need more Jump King like games.

I had never played jump king, I've been too afraid cuz I'm terrible at any form of precise platforming. But I gave your game a shot and enjoyed what I could get through! For your first game, I think this is a huuuuge accomplishment! Felt incredibly clean. My only bit of critique for myself is just on a couple of small Godot/gameplay-related things:

  • Getting a background in would make the assets pop more. If you're looking for something simple to mess with, you could maybe use ColorRect and just have it slowly change color as you get higher up.
  • Know the game is 1:1 to jump kind, but I almost wished the camera was just connected to the player. That first bit where you have to guess where the platform is was difficult for myself. Get it's the point of the game, suggestion is more of a personal taste for myself since I'm terrible at platformers lol.
  • Would also be cool to see some particles. The CPUParticle node is pretty chill to use and you can customize it to emit when the player is walking or even falling. Like a dust trail or something. Small polish detail. As of right now, art feels a bit flat.

Again, all the suggestions are just minor. Congrats on your first jam!

Thank you for amazing feedback! I will definitely use your tips for my next game

Well the game is good and well done for your first game ! (I found the jump physic pretty cool) And it's ok if it isn't totally original... ;D

Jump king :)
The screen transitions were a bit challenging: Had to fail to know what to do next.

That is a very good first time entry if you want my opinion! The jump feels really satisfying. I havent played Jump King but ripoffs don’t angry me. Our game is very much inspired from Plate Up! and Ultimate Chicken Horse haha

Really fun little game! I challenged myself and tried to complete it as quickly as possible, the best time I got is 0:31

Hahaha good job for your first time! First times are always really hard because you don't know what you need and you need to figure a lot of stuff out on the spot.

Well done on the execution and enjoyed playing it.

Good job! You developed a full game and overcame the scope problems in jams!
A trajectory to see where I land would be awesome!
Best of luck
